To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

I know but he has offered it was a response to previous post

a security company can’t offer him the level of protection that he should be receiving he is the kings son he will always whatever he chooses in life be a target and a public interest that is never going to change

he has no choice being public property the least they is owe to him is security to keep him and now how own family safe

He absolutely a choice whether to be public property. Why can zara and Peter live quiet lives away from any interest? They were grandchildren of the late Queen also. Whilst he is the son of the King, the only real interest is the line of succession and there are three Wales children who are now coming up to their teens. If Prince Harry just went and lived a quiet life like his cousins no one would take any interest whatsoever. remember Princess Margaret, despite her very colourful life, never caused the queen the level of problems Prince Harry causes.

He, himself, brings attention to his family. Megan also is now by monetising them. I have a degree of sympathy for him in that he didn’t ask to be born into the RF but at the same time he does have the choice to keep the royal titles. He also chooses to make money off the back of his family. Again, all choices. He says one thing and does another.

I am and will always be on Harry’s side. Charles is a loathsome, cruel, weak, cheating, misogynistic excuse for a man. I will never forget or forgive to my dying day how he treated Diana. Not my king.

Of course he’s also not Harry’s father, which is awkward…

TulaOfDarkWater · 03/05/2025 00:25

What hypocrisy? How on earth do you know Charles hasn’t forgiven Harry? Has Charles come out and said so?

Forgiving someone does not mean forgetting what’s happened nor does it mean you’re obligated to carry on a relationship; especially if it leaves you open to continuing hurt and upset.

It’s entirely possible to forgive someone, wish them well but carry without them in your life - no one is entitled to be in anyone’s life. Forgiveness doesn’t mean being a doormat and it certainly doesn’t mean that just because you forgive, you’re not entitled to your own boundaries.

If you want to talk about hypocrisy and forgiveness though, look no further than Meghan’s Dad; funny how there’s no forgiveness for him, don’t you think?

Edited

Harry and Meghan aren't head of the Church of England though are they.

I agree. Charles is the father, he should fix it. Of course he shouldnt have let it get this far to begin with.
Harry has made various comments wanting to be on better terms and thats obviously not been reciprocated.
I think charles and william are being as controlled as they were when it all kicked off but they should make changes. Charles is the king! His "advisors" cant overrule him.

This- how weak!!! He is a father and being a parent trumps everything including being king.

JackieDaytonaLuckyBrews · 03/05/2025 08:49

I don't think it's resolvable unfortunately.
DH and his dad fell out pretty spectacularly years ago. DH dad put everything on Facebook page for years. Every detail, every feeling he had, his angry thoughts, private information, made up crap...it all went on there. Begging DH to talk to him went on the Facebook page (even though DH has never had Facebook and couldn't see it). I only know because people would tell me and I once looked as his page wasn't private, and it was insane. Bizarrely, he never actually made the effort to actually contact DH in "real life" despite having his phone number and our address despite telling his followers he had.
I can say it certainly didn't do anything to help repair their relationship. How do you talk to someone who you know will instantly repeat everything you've said -with added embellishments -online? I can't imagine how bad it is at celeb level of publicity either, it was shit when it was just friends and family.

They never repaired their relationship and DH dad is now dead. He wasn't a nice man, but it's sad it all ended that way when it didn't need to. We NEVER responded in any way to him other than once, by private email, to politely ask him to stop. Guess where that went.

He will have security though. They have said if he pre arranges a visit he will have security- what he can’t do is just fly in tomorrow and get it.

He only gets security if invited for functions.

If I was his parent I’d not sure I could sleep at night knowing he is in the US with god only knows what security and can’t come home for anything other than functions if he is to be safe here.

He kind have had no choice but to write that book having to fund top security.

How can Charles fix Harry's rent-a-mouth?
Glue it shut or just give him nothing to talk about.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2025 08:45

There are two sides to every story. Harry has behaved appallingly. I wouldn’t believe a word he says.

Needspaceforlego · 03/05/2025 08:45

Austenpirate123 · 03/05/2025 06:46

See I remember this differently.
I remember that the RF wanted to hunker down in Balmoral after the news broke, and look after W and H. It was the public’s ghoulish and frankly hysterical demands that made them come down to London before they were ready.
subsequent interviews have confirmed that neither W nor H were forced to walk behind the coffin. In fact they said they wanted to, and PP said he would walk with them.

the whole boarding school thing - while i wouldn’t want to pack my children off to boarding school at 8/9/10 whenever it was they went, that was totally normal for the class they were born into.
not saying it’s right, but it was not unique to Charles, doing that.

You know it couldn't have been easy for PP either. He did what he thought was right. I can't imagine how horrific it must have been for him. The memories of walking behind his older sister and little neices / nephews inc a newborn baby, born and killed on the same flight, when he was only 16.

That knowledge that he'd done it so young himself and in even more horrific circumstances totally puts a different light on it for me.

GrumpyDullard · 03/05/2025 08:43

As a couple of PPs have pointed out, the correct spelling is “berk” - I don’t normally care about spelling, but this word has some seriously amusing etymology. It’s short for “Berkshire hunt” which is rhyming slang.

I agree that Harry is indeed a berk, like many other members of his freeloading family.

Harry has massively betrayed his family, both on a personal level and as an institution. He’s made his bed.

It isn’t just about having access to info. Prince harry is, in effect, a private citizen now. As a result his security is now arranged on a case by case basis as they would if any high profile person was in the country. He can’t just pay to hire the Met as anyone rich would then insist on doing it. The Met aren’t paid security for those who want it.

Lovecatsandwater · 03/05/2025 08:32

I would have absolutely nothing to do with Harry unless he issues a full and comprehensive apology taking accountability for the disgraceful way he’s behaved and and hurt and damage he’s caused to his father, his brother, Kate and the whole family. He’s an absolute disgrace and this interview was more manipulative entitled and self obsessed than ever.

Superhansrantowindsor · 03/05/2025 08:32

How can he talk to Harry when his words will end up in a book, a tv show or shared with Oprah? The king can’t reply. He can’t get in a public argument of ‘I didn’t say that’ etc.

CantStopMoving · 03/05/2025 08:29

it’s about the security having access to information

he can’t just have a few security guards around him

This is the problem. Say prince charles does offer an olive branch- every detail will be in the next book.

Sorry King Charles!!

Also, a retired senior Met officer (who will be better informed than any of us) confirmed that H & M’s lives were in danger.

H&M can have as much protection and security as they like, if they want to pay for it.

i suppose you could talk and just keep the topic on the weather?!

Jeez, she was far from the best of the bunch.

Absolute prick of a man.

I wouldn’t use that word but you last sentence sums up Harry very well too.

Ellie1015 · 03/05/2025 08:06

I haven't heard Harry say he is sorry or anything nice about his family. To reconcile he would have to convince his dad he wouldn't do the same again. How can they have a relationship when he interviews/books/tv shows. You would be scared to say anything. I bet he does wish they could reconcile but he doesn't have the emotional intelligence or common sense to make that happen.
