To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

As the head of the Church

The King should show forgiveness & welcome Harry & his family back

Therefore I agree, that the situation looks worse for the Royal Family, than for Harry & his family

When Harry makes a full public apology acknowledging the hurt and damage he has done to his family and our nation, and promising his appalling behaviour ends there, then I am absolutely certain his family will show forgiveness. Until then, absolutely not.

I am and will always be on Harry’s side. Charles is a loathsome, cruel, weak, cheating, misogynistic excuse for a man. I will never forget or forgive to my dying day how he treated Diana. Not my king.

Of course he’s also not Harry’s father, which is awkward…

How very presumptuous to claim that you have any right to "forgive" something you only know about through a few press reports and which had no effect on you personally. Diana was getting on well with Charles by the time she died, so she obviously either forgave or didn't feel there was anything to forgive.

He absolutely a choice whether to be public property. Why can zara and Peter live quiet lives away from any interest? They were grandchildren of the late Queen also. Whilst he is the son of the King, the only real interest is the line of succession and there are three Wales children who are now coming up to their teens. If Prince Harry just went and lived a quiet life like his cousins no one would take any interest whatsoever. remember Princess Margaret, despite her very colourful life, never caused the queen the level of problems Prince Harry causes.

He, himself, brings attention to his family. Megan also is now by monetising them. I have a degree of sympathy for him in that he didn’t ask to be born into the RF but at the same time he does have the choice to keep the royal titles. He also chooses to make money off the back of his family. Again, all choices. He says one thing and does another.

I don’t agree with this. Harry is Diana’s son, that in itself has made him public property in a way that doesn’t remotely apply to Zara or Peter, or even Princess Margaret. Irrespective of what other choices he makes.

My parents are no contact with my brother. Not one big fall out. Just lots of smaller stuff over the years.
They will never speak again. Fault lies on both sides but more my brothers ( in my opinion)
At least he didn't go to the press/published a book/gave interviews to air the dirty laundry! I think to do this is disgusting! And actually Charles and William haven't retaliated or commented even though they must be very upset/angry!

They don’t need to. They are worth billions and have their security bill paid for. They are the heirs which the establishment curtails to. How they don’t recognise this or the difficult life and position Harry has had is beyond me. He is King Charles’s son and he lost his mother in distressing circumstances at a young age, he witnessed her distress and hounding from the press and their marriage breakdown first hand, he has had to fit into a system he didn’t want…

Yes many have had a worse life however that doesn’t negate his struggles or the need for a supportive father and brother. I think they all look pretty shit to be honest.

on this we will have to disagree. If he had moved to the US 5 years ago and lived a quiet life off his millions and not done all these court cases and books and his wife had kept herself off the TV and not done any media, do you think anyone would really have any major interest in him? If there is no story people won’t care. No one took any major interest in Princess Margaret in general or even Princess Anne.

Of course because of who he is he is recognisable to millions of people and do you think he could really go about his every day life without being constantly pestered and that is the very least of his concerns

and the British press would never leave him alone he is too lucrative and the most senior royals are seen as owned by the public, belonging to the public their rights of privacy don’t exist they couldn’t even grieve for their mother in private the public wanted updates so they were paraded about for all of us to see

there is immense interest in him in the US

The story is who he is and still tied in with the fascination of his mother

it’s a horrible life with huge privilege the least that should be owed to him is peace of mind to keep his family safe

Grapewrath · 03/05/2025 09:27

Families are hard- tbh I wouldn’t want contact with Charles if I was Harry and Id concentrate on my own family but it’s easier said than done.
Charles does not surprise me, he’s a very cold and selfish man. H&M are best off out of it.

dottiedodah · 03/05/2025 09:25

KC is in a difficult position. One word to Harry ,he goes running to Megs and it probably makes it worse .press get wind an it blows up.All of us are free to marry within reason.KC was under pressure to marry the right girl .Camilla wasn't it then .PH is obv hurting from Diana's death.I lost my Dad young as well ,the pain never goes away really.PH needs to come to terms with it for his own sake

Well, he is your king if we’re being pedantic! Charles was coerced into a marrying a woman he didn’t love, who he didn’t know and with whom he had nothing in common with because he was told it was his duty. His only mistake was to marry her in the first place. Always amuses me when people so readily accept the narrative so readily pushed by Diana and her ‘team’. I don’t really care about the paternity of Harry but by god, his behaviour is allll his mothers!

If this is true, which I would not necessarily take to be the case based on Harry's word alone - I suspect KC has learned the hard way that if the choice is between silence and having everything you say twisted and sold to the Press, silence it has to be.

Lupin4747 · 03/05/2025 09:20

CantStopMoving · 03/05/2025 09:02

Only if there is a perceived threat will he get Met protection - this is the case by case basis they talk about. He can bring his own security but they are not allowed to be armed. If he does a public engagement with other member of the family he will be part of their security if needed, but if he is just visiting as a private citizen they are unlikely to offer him specific security (unless they have a specific threat they need to protect him over) which is what he is objecting to and why he has caused this fuss. He thinks he should get it as of right when he enters the country.

And he should. £2 million a year security bill for life is a hefty bill to have. He will also need to think about provision for his kids and grandchildren too- for life. Meanwhile Liz Truss gets it all free.I’d be livid and frankly would have little thought re keeping my mouth shut.

King Charles shot himself in the foot by not putting fatherhood first. I don’t think he has had an easy life either however his kids should come first over the establishment and job and he has had the where with all to ensure mistakes aren’t continued to be made in further generations.

I’m sorry, what? He is the spitting image of James Hewitt.

Nope - put Prince Philip, King Charles and Prince Harry alongside each other and look at their eyes- they are honestly the same- slightly closer together than average. - quite distinctive.. It is why Prince Harry and Prince Philip looked similar when they were the same age.

Xenia · 03/05/2025 09:14

It is very unlikely that what the Prince says is true. Remember they have also chosen to fall out with his wife's family too.

Serpentstooth · 03/05/2025 09:13

I'm not the king, he's not my son but he is an irritating brat. If we were related, I'd be keeping my distance. I saw this interview as it popped up unexpectedly on the news, I don't seek out royal stuff so am thankfully short on detail on PH but what a manipulative weasel he shows himself as. Both him and his wife not speaking to their respective fathers? Says a lot.

lljkk · 03/05/2025 09:13

To answer OP, I don't think poorly of KC for being in this situation. I'm close to being outright sympathetic that adult kids are tough.

I don't understand why Harry isn't keen to have a quieter, more private life. He & MM both have plenty of skills to earn money that don't need to involve talking about their private family relationships.

CantStopMoving · 03/05/2025 09:08

HRTQueen · 03/05/2025 09:03

Of course he doesn’t

he is the son of the king and brother of future king and son of the women who nearly 30 years after her death is still a fascination to the public worldwide

Zara wasn’t paraded around as a child for the world to see her every move hasn’t been scrutinised

he can’t just step away from the public life unfortunately for him that is what is was born into that he has never had a choice over

TheGrimSmile · 03/05/2025 09:08

The whole thing is a ridiculous shitshow and only serves to reinforce that we should do away with the royal family altogether.

GoodCharl · 03/05/2025 09:06

Superhansrantowindsor · 03/05/2025 09:04

In spare he wrote about going to the supermarket on his own with a cap on. What has changed so dramatically?
This notion that he can’t bring his family is nonsense. If they stayed at a royal residence ( several to chose from) they would be fine.

He will have security though. They have said if he pre arranges a visit he will have security- what he can’t do is just fly in tomorrow and get it.

Tbf, I wouldnt talk to anyone who is likely to publish details of our private conversations either. Harry cannot be trusted. He's also probably a nightmare to deal with. I reckon any conversation with Harry would be about Harry trying to get what he wants from Daddy. He think the RF, Starmer and Yvette cooper are all here to pander to his demands. Entitled little brat. He probably shortens his dad's life by at least a few months with every conversation.
