Neighbour’s visitors parking on my driveway

petuniasss · 02/05/2025 11:57

For a while now my next door neighbour’s visitor’s have been parking on my driveway.

We didn’t mind once or twice but it has become a regular occurrence and happens when DH is mainly at work (he has the only car in household).

Im in the process of buying my own car and in the meantime I have put planters there now so nobody can park.
It is a bit of a hassle for DH as he has to move the planters every night.

The neighbour has took the funnies since I put the planters there.

It may be so common as to be almost normal, but it’s also entitled, rude, inconsiderate and a colossal cheek. Wouldn’t dream of parking on someone else’s drive or blocking it. Such people aren’t normally likely to take kindly to polite requests not to do it. Speaking from experience here.

Oh, I agree and when I said it's almost normal I didn't mean that makes it right. I just meant that it's extremely common, which is depressing really.

You really don’t- it’s just wrong to park on someone else’s drive.

I think it depends a lot on where you live, and as to whether you CF neighbours.
If you're close to a school or shops or anything that the general public want to use, its so common as to be almost normal. I've got a friend whose near a Sainsbury's Local and a sister who lives in a road with a primary school. They get cars blocking their drives pretty much every day.
If you don't have those things nearby then much more unlikely, unless you have a random CF neighbour like OP seems to have.

@MoominMai people park in front of my drive on a weekly basis. It’s a combination of my neighbours and neighbours visitors who don’t give a shit. I ask them repeatedly not to do it. It’s also just sometimes random people who don’t seem to care that they are blocking access. It’s infuriating and makes me very depressed about where I live.

Sorry that you have to put up with this nonsense. It’s so unfortunate as with so many people engaging in this anti social behaviour, it’s difficult for you to take back any control I imagine 😕

I can't believe you went to the effort and expense of buying planters that your husband has to move twice a day rather than saying "Could you please stop parking in my drive?"

Some neighbours can be very confrontational. The mere fact that they had the cheek to suggest that their relatives park on OP’s drive indicates that a friendly response wasn’t likely!

EmmaJane2025 · 02/05/2025 15:48

I hate to say this though and I don’t mean to blame you in any way OP but it sounds like the neighbours have told their visitors they can park there, because they know you’re…erm…a bit soft? Or are unlikely to kick off about it. At least properly kick off, anyway. In other words they know they can get away with it

EmmaJane2025 · 02/05/2025 15:46

Actually on your drive?!?! That’s an insane level of CF’ery! Wow. Can you afford to invest in a retractable bollard? Also has the added feature of preventing car theft

Ah thank you, that makes a lot of sense! Certainly something to be aware of if I move again re the landscape around me 👍

So new fear unlocked for me! 😱 I’ve always lived alone and work FT so would be awful if my neighbours either blocked my drive or actually parked on it! When I saw the first thread on this I thought it must be a one off but in the short time I joined this forum, I’ve seen it posted a few times! Can’t believe that this is even a ‘thing’! I wonder if this is a new phenomena or I’ve just been v lucky and it happens more than you’d think?

This! Why on earth did you not nip this on the bud the first time it happened?

Your neighbour is definitely being unreasonable but so are you with your passive aggressive solution. Use your words

She says she asked the neighbour!!! We don’t know it’s the same visitors all the time, telling their own visitors not to park in the ops drive is the neighbours job and she won’t. The op has solved the problem.

dentalflosser · 02/05/2025 14:07

I don’t understand the sense of entitlement some people have when they do CF things like this. I wouldn’t dream of telling my Mum it’s fine to park on my neighbours drive.
Your neighbour is a CF, the visitors are CFs and if it was me I would put up one of those parking bollards on the drive so any potential CFs can see that they can’t just take what they want. Your neighbour is rude!
I would also like to see a diagram OP, I have had CFs park fully across our driveway dropped kerb and they seemed to be outraged when I told them in my best teacher voice to never try that again. One such CF asked me why I couldn’t park down the road anyway. It is MY drive!

Nicecalmsmells · 02/05/2025 13:29

They are CF who are trying to make you feel bad. Ignore the neighbours attitude and if they let friends do it again ask them to move.

My neighbours park in front of my drive all the time. I have asked them to stop but they don’t. I now block it with bins. Some people are just unreasonable and selfish. They don’t react normally to what is a reasonable request.

JackieDaytonaLuckyBrews · 02/05/2025 13:27

It sounds like they know now you've put the planters out. If you will be getting a car shortly I'd just put up with the inconvenience of moving the planters until then. Who cares that she's got the hump 🤷‍♀️ it's YOUR drive.

RunningJo · 02/05/2025 13:23

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 02/05/2025 13:15

I know, I can read. She didn't ask the visitors.

She shouldn’t have to if she’s spoken to the neighbour 🤷🏼‍♀️

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 02/05/2025 13:15

RunningJo · 02/05/2025 12:18

But the OP did ask "I did say to her if she could ask her visitors not to park on our driveway and she walked of"

I know, I can read. She didn't ask the visitors.

AnonWho23 · 02/05/2025 12:21

Fuck her. She's a CF. Continue what your doing and say no more.

Then surely you know without a shadow of a doubt that you're definitely not being unreasonable? 😳

Mumof1andacat · 02/05/2025 12:15

Trap the car on your drive way....

JDM625 · 02/05/2025 12:13

The neighbour has took the funnies since I put the planters there

What does this mean? You neighbour has been odd with you since? Have they said something to you? Rather than moving planters back and forth every day, could you get a remote controlled gate?

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 02/05/2025 12:09

Fuck her. You told her to stop and she ignored you. Let her sulk.
