Neighbour’s visitors parking on my driveway

petuniasss · 02/05/2025 11:57

For a while now my next door neighbour’s visitor’s have been parking on my driveway.

We didn’t mind once or twice but it has become a regular occurrence and happens when DH is mainly at work (he has the only car in household).

Im in the process of buying my own car and in the meantime I have put planters there now so nobody can park.
It is a bit of a hassle for DH as he has to move the planters every night.

The neighbour has took the funnies since I put the planters there.

AIBU?

They are actually parking on your drive?? WTF? Your property, your insurance if any damage to your property (or, so very unfortunately, by an unfortunate accident, such as a paint splash, block of wood with nails on it, left just behind their car??) etc - I would take photos every time they do this and present them in a nice folder with maybe a copy of this thread? I believe that such CFs have some kind of imaginary mind block about how to behave in society these days. Good luck x URNBU

Beautifulweeds · 08/05/2025 17:09

What a CF after you asked you her not to do it! She's got the message now lol 😆

Sorry why are you being so feeble.. ?

if she wanted to sit in on your sofa would you allow that? Why did you allow this occur? Lesson is this - If it had been firnly dealt with on day one, then you wouldn’t have this issue now.

it is YOUR PROPERTY.

the neighbour has no right to be on it. I cannot understand why British people are so amazingly wet in these situations.

Agree with this. Backbone nowhere to be found.

Block the arsehole in the next time they do it. Then when they come to the door to ask you to move, answer with a bottle of vodka in your hand and tell them they’ll need to wait a day or so.

But then they’d be stuck on your drive for longer?! Towing on first occurrence seems a bit extreme IMO…

It’s not a first occurrence for the OP though, they’ve been doing it even though she asked them not to.

They’re taking the piss right out her.

Allseeingallknowing · 06/05/2025 23:10

That’s very naive and optimistic! Unfortunately, a friendly chat probably won’t work. If they’re the sort of ignorant, thoughtless people who encourage their visitors to park on your property they won’t respond well to a polite request not to! Speaking from experience.
Anyway the OP has already asked them not to do it, with no luck!

Endorewitch · 06/05/2025 22:44

Why put planters?A bit passive/aggressive!
Better to have a chat telling your neighbours not to do it.
A friendly chat would sort it.

Only if the car is damaged, I believe. Though it might be different from country to country.

My other suggestion was going to be to slash their tyres, so I went with the least criminal option. 😄

You really don’t- it’s just wrong to park on someone else’s drive.

(I think this is a wee joke linked to another thread about CF neighbours and parking. There was a fantastic diagram, deeds and everything!)

Trap the car on your drive way....

This!! Go on!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/05/2025 12:59

What an utter cockwomble, @Badbadbunny! Did he stop in the end? If not, you could coat his windows in sudocrem - that would be an absolute beggar to wash off, but wouldn't do any damage.

Badbadbunny · 06/05/2025 10:18

You actually think a polite request would work?? An entitled idiot parking on someone else's drive already means they're an entitled idiot. "Normal" people don't do that kind of thing.

I had the same years ago, a neighbour constantly parked on my drive because they couldn't find a space right outside their house. I mentioned it to them multiple times and it was always the same "there wasn't a space" excuse.

I bought a folding lockable parking post!

Then the moron started parking across my drive and when I asked them not to, it was then "well I can't park in your drive, so where do you expect me to park?"

There's just no talking to some people.

chattychatchatty · 06/05/2025 10:14

You’re not being unreasonable. Crazy that they would think it’s OK to park on your drive rather than kerbside.

RunningJo · 02/05/2025 13:23

She shouldn’t have to if she’s spoken to the neighbour 🤷🏼‍♀️

She clearly does since the neighbour walked off 🤷🏼‍♀️

orangedream · 05/05/2025 23:03

Order a pack of the hard to remove 'Don't Park Here' stickers from Amazon.

Retiredfromearlyyears · 05/05/2025 22:05

How rude of them! Tell your husband to park across the driveway when he's at home and keep using the planters when he's not.

Straycats · 05/05/2025 18:16

Can’t believe how some roll over and accept others using their driveways or blocking them in! I love love stick on labels, white ones with 100’s in a roll, they’re exceptionally sticky nightmare to get the off.
Had charity marathon runner block me in for hours, she came back to her car plastered with these, many with messages regarding her blocking my car in the driveway. I certainly managed to vent my annoyance!

NC28 · 02/05/2025 18:10

It would be good if you friend a friend or family member who’d come over and block them in, every single time they do it. Make them chap your door to ask the friend to move. Then you tell them sorry, we’ve had a drink. It’ll be tomorrow before they can move their car. Adios.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 02/05/2025 17:23

Ignore them. This is not your problem.
Enjoy your new car when it comes.

petuniasss · 02/05/2025 17:11

The neighbour is very bad mannered, but seemed to think because there was no cars parked it seemed to be OK.

To be fair we were going to get planters eventually but the parking just sped the process up lol.

Some think adjoining drives are shared drives- they’re not! Many rue the day that they buy houses with these- I know I do!

Bulldog01 · 02/05/2025 16:13

We moved house, as we were living on a New build estate.Prior to us moving our neighbours next door used our parking space to park their car! even when we moved in.We had endless issues. It seems to be a problem now.Small parking areas, lack of parking areas.I Could not care less attitude.I'm more important & entitled I could not possibly park any distance from where I need to be! If it means I can park & inconvenience the Neighboughs who are paying a mortgage on the property who cares!

Don’t think it’s that easy- you might end up paying the bill!

This is mental. Some cheeky bastard is so incredibly entitled that they have the front to park on your drive, repeatedly. Then you ask them to stop and they walk away from you like you’re a piece of shit in the road. Then you go and pay for planters which your poor husband is forced to move back and forward after a day at work?

Can’t understand this at all. The first time it happened, you should’ve had their car towed away. No messing about, no polite requests, no appealing to their (non-existent) better nature. Just towed and away to storage. The bill would’ve ensured they never did it again.

Yes some neighbours can be confrontational, yes the visitor could’ve stabbed you. But those “what if…” scenarios are unlikely and shouldn’t render someone to feel powerless as to what happens with their property.
