To think MNHQ should delete all chat about ‘the golden/bonus dose’ for those on WLI?

I use the weight loss forums quite a lot and with the arrival of WLI they are busier than ever. But, it’s worrying the amount of people who are misusing their prescription and discussing with others how to do so. Should MNHQ take action here?

Maybe we should ban all COL & 'stretching the budget' threads, maybe that would make the OP happy?

I better stop standing the washing up liquid bottle upside down to get the rest out of it, or she'll be on about that next🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

Have you tried reading the full thread?

Sometimes it can stop you looking a bit daft.

Don't stop on my account though.

The vast majority of people using them are abusing them in the first place, hence not getting it through a GP and having medical supervision. I'm buggered if I'd risk my health for a lazy fix.

Do you have similar concerns about the hay-fever jab, the flu vaccination, and period delay medication? All are prescription medication available direct from pharmacies often including online pharmacies just like WLI.

Of all the things discussed to do with WLIs that could be seen as controversial, this is the least concerning one imo.

I take Mounjaro, I use the remaining liquid to do an extra dose, to save money. I've been on the same dose for months now, and injecting it via the pen mechanism versus extracting it and injecting it with a separate syringe gives me the exact same dose of medication. I don't find that particularly problematic nor something that shouldn't be discussed.

Sure, paracetamol are not issued in a measured dose pen.

Look, if you can even be bothered to engage in conversation, why did you even start the thread?

I suggest you go and mind your own business and stay out of other peoples

I can post anything I want so don't tell me what to do.

Absolutely.

foreverblowingbubbless · 02/05/2025 06:52

GustyBaloo · 01/05/2025 23:52

Yes, I know that.

However, the prescription says otherwise.

Hence this entire conversation.

WLI are already massively abused by people lying about their weight in order to access them or stay on them.

I think that's as big an issue as people taking more than the dose.

Either way i am stunned at so many people who are not obese, but are so willing to inject themselves with drugs to lose weight.

I don’t think people are taking higher than prescribed doses (or are they? I hadn’t understood that anyway.)

Isn’t about making an (expensive) own last 5 weeks instead of 4?

People of completely healthy weight lying to get it is more of a concern. I have sympathy with the people with borderline BMIs though.

OP if your laundry detergent or toothpaste was packaged in such a way that it forces you to throw away 20% of the product each time, would you happily accept that?

BottleBlondeMachiavelli · 02/05/2025 01:26

istrich · 01/05/2025 16:10

Because the prescription is 4 doses using the pen as directed not 5 doses, 4 as directed and one with a needle you bought online?

whatever you think about taking the extra you cannot deny the misuse element

It’s not repurposing. It’s waste prevention.

People either feel confident to draw and self inject or they don’t. It’s a self-selecting group.

No it wasn't. It actually became a discussion with other view points being aired.
OP learned something. So did I - mainly that I'd never dare a hard twist!

How about you do you .

GustyBaloo · 01/05/2025 23:56

I've used a syringe for my last pen as I know if I tried a hard twist, I'd probably end with a wet hand full of glass.

Such is my luck.

II is not from a new pen - yes. BUT. The content and the dosage is exactly the same 🤷‍♀️

Of course it is the new pen has been prescribed for you to take the first dose from that pen.

i don’t think you understand much about how the prescription works.

I have been prescribed it for 6 months so I’m not sure what it is you think I don’t understand

You don’t need to quote me acknowledging o was BU to tell me I was BU, that’s a bit like sticking the boot in. On a post where I said I was happy to be wrong and have learned something too.

oh, and i don’t see much wrong with posting in AIBU - it’s been a decent enough length thread and a lot has been learned.

This is no different from ordering another pen and taking then first dose of that .

Rewis · 01/05/2025 20:29

istrich · 01/05/2025 16:40

Right, but not everyone is as able as you or I. I saw a poster once ask where you put the needle in to get the liquid out and it baffled me that after following instructions 4 times to use her pen that she didn’t cotton on she was putting a needle in to the pen and that’s how it came out. If she know she would have know where to put the needle for the extra. People who have less understanding are more likely to get it wrong.

I ubderstand that not everyone has the necessary critical thinking skills or the ability to understand instructions. But I still think it goes under personal responsibility. I don't see why it should be MNHQ problem to make sure the medical advice on a generic public forum is accurate.

foreverblowingbubbless · 01/05/2025 20:17

GustyBaloo · 01/05/2025 18:54

I think it's the issue that, that last dose isn't part of your prescription. Therefore advice is being given on how to use a prescription drug that is against advice.

It's not a problem to me. I do it. Like I said though, if I started telling people how to use my 240mg codeine prescription differently, then it would be a different matter.

This is no different from ordering another pen and taking then first dose of that .

WafflingDreamer · 01/05/2025 20:07

There is a lot of relaxed and at times seemingly dangerous behaviour surrounding weight loss injections that I don't believe you see with other prescription medication.

Lots of people muddle up their mg and mls or post saying they injected 0.75mls of the liquid with an insulin needle and don't know how much that is in mg.

People buying syringes from amazon that are not sold as for human use

I use the bonus dose but feel that it's a minimal risk as I'm trained to draw up and administer S/C medication

NerrSnerr · 01/05/2025 19:53

I’m glad the OP posted this is AIBU as it was something I was wondering after seeing people post about it. Good of the OP to admit she’s unreasonable too.

The thing that made me worry a bit was a poster saying they’re using longer needles and just ‘putting them in a bit’. Assuming they’re still sub cut needles but it did make me hope someone didn’t read that and take it literally and be trying to inject themselves with an IM needle.

No.
People are adults capable of their own choices.
However stupid they are.

In answer to your original question - YABU of course MN should not be policing discussion of pragmatic use of prescribed medication.

You are clearly misinformed and AIBU is not the best place for debate on a niche topic.

You don’t need to quote me acknowledging o was BU to tell me I was BU, that’s a bit like sticking the boot in. On a post where I said I was happy to be wrong and have learned something too.
