Keep seeing this pop up and think they sound pathetic . Am I alone in finding this annoying?

OP posts:

I don't agree with posting every time you sneeze, but lots of people do stuff like hiking or dog walking. It's not unusual or unbelievable.

So what? I struggle to see how this could annoy anybody. Not really. If they want to post it just let them post it and move on

I see it is someone who loves their child others see it as some long drawn up soap opera on how the mother is having secret meetings with some government department so they can come up with a way for the mother to make other people feel they love their children the same and now have to have endless nightmares on how a terrible parent they are and now it is all the mothers fault

Boredlass · 01/05/2025 06:48

I don’t think I’ve ever had a wholesome weekend

Its the fact that we know it's all such cheesy bollocks.

It reminds me of a FB post one of the mums at school had written. She had a lovely picture of her three year old with a caption. "The most beautiful girl in the world inside and out. I love you to the moon and back. Can't believe I get to be your Mummy ❤️"

In the comments a few days later someone had written "You are so blessed she is the best."
To which the mum had replied "God, she has been a right little shit today, you can have her"

There's the reality!

All this wholesomeness is just bollocks.

But if it wasn’t wholesome they would be bragging about how many cocktails they drank m
Or bragging how far their child swam
Or bragging about their garden makeover

Doesn’t matter which part of social media you engage with it’s a cesspit of bragging

I dont post updates on SM but I find the ones that complain about people bragging are the ones who have jealousy issues and other weird inadequacy issues going on, if I find someone I follow annoys me I stop following them, which I guess gives them an excuse to post on MN asking people to solve the puzzle of why people unfollow now they are losing sleep about why they have been unfollowed

I think some people need to stop using social media if they cant handle it

I think this says more about you than it does with them. Someone sharing what a nice weekend they've had I can only imagine how irritating that must be for you 🙄

To be honest things like that don’t annoy me. But I do have some friends and people I know who curate and plan their social media and that really irks me because it feels false.

The most ironic post about a ‘wholesome weekend’ was posted on Facebook by a 21 year old introducing her new partner to her wider family…who’d just left his wife of over 20 years and 2 devastated young children to be with her. Doubt they were all having a ‘wholesome weekend’ in his absence…you couldn’t make it up!

Haven't heard the term, but I'm absolutely sure there's nothing wholesome about this 😳.

People are missing the point. You’re not angry at them having a wholesome weekend! It’s that they need to a) jump on a social media trend b) brag about being “wholesome” and c) weekend was probably only 5% wholesome - whatever that actually means 🤣

Who cares? If it makes them happy just let them get on with it

We have two teen boys
Wholesome is not what they are after!
(nor should it be)

So why follow them if they are so 'boring' why dont the people following get a life instead?

Would you prefer they shared the blow by blow detail on unwholesome weekend?

Yes please

Jesus…. Someone you know?!

BitOutOfPractice · 01/05/2025 06:24

It’s taken over from “making memories” and “blessed”.

I too love @lucysmam threads about people’s weekend plans. I find it very soothing and reassuring. A window into ordinary British life. I highly recommend.

Allelbowsandtoes · 01/05/2025 06:22

Screamingabdabz · 30/04/2025 22:13

See this is such a change in generational thinking… Gen X would get off on the ‘blow by blow detail of an unwholesome weekend.’ That would be epic and a REAL weekend. Climbing some hill, walking a muddy field and drinking some oat milk? Boring as shit. Get a life.

Why are you so offended by people who like hiking 🤣

BlondiePortz · 01/05/2025 06:18

So your genuine friends you follow say this? or are these randoms that you follow that make you feel jealous?

I have never heard the expression so where are you seeing it?

Florabella · 01/05/2025 06:14

I think OP is getting a bit of a hard time here. To a certain extent I understand what you mean OP, but for me I just find it irritating that people feel the need to post a sanitised and carefully curated version of their lives on social media. (Mind you I haven’t posted on social media for years) People often only post the highlights of what they have done, or what they feel best suits the image they should present to the world. So the “wholesome” weekend probably had about 2 hours of wholesomeness and 46 hours of slobbing out, watching Netflix while eating ice cream. They just don’t post that bit

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 01/05/2025 03:05

Bloody hate “wholesome” used like that. See also “cosy”.

theprincessthepea · 01/05/2025 01:27

Surely we all don’t have the same weekend every single week? I’ve had wholesome weekends where I’ve spent the whole morning with a neighbour at the allotment and my kids have been off tech, we go home and pick up a greasy take away (ok that part isn’t so wholesome) then binge on Saturday night TV - or I don’t love cooking so my partner might make a “wholesome” meal (well it tends to be meat heavy and carb heavy with some veg so maybe not wholesome) - but that is a perfect weekend for me.

Just is another weekend where I’ve woken Up, done all of the groceries with family. Left my kids with parents to spend a whole evening getting dressed up and learning how to self apply make up with the help of YouTube before heading out to a bar or restaurant with the girls, having adult chat, laughing, dancing or whatever we want to do - or if not with the girls then it’s a night out with the partner going to one of our favourite restaurants by the river (we never leave our local area and are walking distance fro a river) - lots of cocktails, stumble back home and enjoy a wholesome night without the kids! Either way - that feels wholesome too.

I really don’t care what people do - but wholesome to one might not be wholesome to you - but I just see it as someone having (or at least wanting us to feel like they are) a nice weekend - whatever that looks like.

RawBloomers · 01/05/2025 01:24

It wouldn't be my choice of words and, tbh, it's not what I'd want from a weekend! But each to their own. Why does it irritate?

DUsername · 30/04/2025 22:36

funinthesun19 · 30/04/2025 22:08

Well at least they’d be genuine and I would be able to identify with them.

So anyone who lives their life differently to you can't be 'genuine'? Unless you identify with them they must be lying about how they spend their spare time?
That's insane.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 30/04/2025 22:34

I can’t say I’ve heard of a “ wholesome weekend” but I particularly enjoy the regular threads posted by lucysmam with posters talking about their very normal weekends in their lives
I find it comforting to know I’m pretty much the same as others
