Anyone getting fed up of people posting about their ‘wholesome weekends’

Keep seeing this pop up and think they sound pathetic . Am I alone in finding this annoying?

OP posts:

Who gives a shit? Really? It has zero effect on your life

But it does have an effect on our life. Not any particular post but it’s a modern addition to parenting teens to make them understand how utterly fake, and make sure they are not influenced by unobtainable standards.
They can become paralysed by the threat of social shame when they can be photographed and embarrassment spread far and wide in moments.

If you think this has no affect on a lot of people’s lives you are mistaken.

Of course we try and mitigate all this, we have to, and we aren’t doing too badly, their dad and I. Not every parent does.

It’s a poison that seeps out all over society.

Baguettesandcheeseforever · 01/05/2025 07:55

I love these posts. I like seeing happy people. My friends don’t use the word wholesome but they post hiking and running, climbing, paddle boarding etc and they aren’t faking anything.
i love and post those activities too. I’m out with family and friends doing these things any chance I get. If it irritates you so much, maybe you need to ask yourself why and search yourself a little. Or just block.

Yep, super annoying- the same type of people who try and look “wholesome” on dating apps so people think they’re SO at one with nature and free-spirited, when in reality they lie on the sofa all weekend binge watching Netflix - think photos of walking a dog from behind with sunset in the distance, wild swimming in some deserted lake, climbing a mountain with a massive back pack, homemade sandwiches by the river…yeah, you did each of those things one time!

It's a bit odd to get so worked up about someone posting pictures of things they've done and enjoyed.

If it bothers you just don't look at them, surely.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 01/05/2025 07:48

If it's an influencer your talking about OP then no fear, "wholesome" is just the new bollocksey buzzword around. A few years ago it was the thoroughly vomit inducing "Making Memories" and in another couple of year it'll be something else.
Just crack on and do you.

Fargo79 · 01/05/2025 07:47

It's hilarious how people can have such a sense of superiority and sneer at how "pathetic" someone's (completely unproblematic) social media posts are, whilst participating in the exact same social media themselves.

MrsPlantagenet · 01/05/2025 07:46

It’s only on TikTok that I see all this ‘wholesome’ bollocks.

‘Spend a wholesome day with me. I made overnight oats, then I did yoga, then I read 2 chapters of my self help book, then the gym, then an oat milk cappuccino…ad nauseam’.

ByWiseAquaFinch · 01/05/2025 07:45

Screamingabdabz · 30/04/2025 22:13

See this is such a change in generational thinking… Gen X would get off on the ‘blow by blow detail of an unwholesome weekend.’ That would be epic and a REAL weekend. Climbing some hill, walking a muddy field and drinking some oat milk? Boring as shit. Get a life.

Agree😂

If they're telling us about a wholesome hike GenX are thinking,

''yeah, but there was a pub on the way or when you got there, or on the different route you took back right? I mean there must be a pub somewhere in this story....otherwise why are you telling me''

emmatherhino · 01/05/2025 07:44

I don't mind them posting pictures and what they have been up to. That's what social media is all about and they can post whatever they want.

It's the word 'wholesome' that makes me want to vomit and stab myself in the eye.

I live in the Lake District. I vividly remember one occasion a couple of years back where I had stopped for lunch by a spot popular with the instagrammers for wild swimming. A women stripped down to her swimming costume. Got into the "infinity pool" (i.e. a bit of water), posed for a couple of seconds whilst her partner took pictures, and then got out again and got dressed.

I can't decide if that was more ridiculous or the person I saw on striding edge in flip flops.

HalloweenGrinch · 01/05/2025 07:35

The most wholesome kind of weekend is one where you have stayed off social media and LIVED YOUR OWN FUCKING LIFE. Whatever it looks like. And not bragged/shared/bored on about it to anyone else.

Speaking of which, why I am even bothering. Off to enjoy my day, warts and all.

Notjustabrunette · 01/05/2025 07:34

MoveYourSelfDearie · 30/04/2025 22:02

Would you prefer they shared the blow by blow detail on unwholesome weekend?

That actually sounds quite fun.

BallerinaRadio · 01/05/2025 07:30

frozendaisy · 01/05/2025 07:26

But is it a nice weekend they had?
Or is it 6 very curated photos, in a bog standard field next to a motorway made to look like bucolic bliss?

Who gives a shit? Really? It has zero effect on your life

BlondiePortz · 01/05/2025 07:29

frozendaisy · 01/05/2025 07:22

You think it’s jealousy issues?

Couldn’t possibly be concern that they might have two teens who, luckily don’t buy into the social media claptrap, might spiral into a pit of feeling inadequate depression because they think (whilst still so young) they are already failing? Or think they need to pump steroids into their muscles to obtain that perfect male physique.

Because social media never uses algorithms to feed users poisonous content does it?

I don’t need to go work, have an amazing H, two super teens, what have I got to be jealous of? (No benefits claimed either)
I have enough, I know that, enough love, time and money. But that’s not going to make anyone else feel better if I post pictures about it all over SM.

It’s not jealously it’s concern on what SM breeds within society. It’s poison, wholesome or not.

Yet people dont have to use it, but if people say not to use it then people get told they are wrong for saying it and if people want to have issues with what people post they can, which is of course true but again it is a choice to use it or not

No idea if it is jealously but daily there seem to be posting how bad social media makes them feel on here yet do nothing about it, except feel judged of course

5128gap · 01/05/2025 07:28

If you're the type to want to read people's SM posts in the first place, it's an odd thing to become upset about. If it's the bragging and exaggeration, then a very high proportion of posts will be doing this on every subject. If it's the latching on to a trend, well, same applies. If its the trend to see wholesome as positive, well surely that can only be a good thing?

frozendaisy · 01/05/2025 07:26

BallerinaRadio · 01/05/2025 06:25

I think this says more about you than it does with them. Someone sharing what a nice weekend they've had I can only imagine how irritating that must be for you 🙄

BlondiePortz · 01/05/2025 06:42

I dont post updates on SM but I find the ones that complain about people bragging are the ones who have jealousy issues and other weird inadequacy issues going on, if I find someone I follow annoys me I stop following them, which I guess gives them an excuse to post on MN asking people to solve the puzzle of why people unfollow now they are losing sleep about why they have been unfollowed

I think some people need to stop using social media if they cant handle it

Jesus…. Someone you know?!

So my friend is his sister (and really shocked by the whole thing). Known her & him since secondary school.

Another friend has started describing her weekends as ‘wholesome’ to describe a day with her children where they visit a farm or potter at home playing board games…that to me better matches the word 😂 it definitely seems to be an ‘in’ word I haven’t noticed people using before the past year…

BitOutOfPractice · 01/05/2025 07:19

Oh god I hate all the “why does it annoy you?” and “if you don’t like it just scroll on” faux po-faced bollocks that always happen on threads about sm.

People can get irritated by anything they like on sm. and post about it here.

And if you don’t agree, or feel vastly superior about how you use / don’t use social media and need to let everyone know that, you are perfectly entitled to well, scroll on.

Gemmawemma9 · 01/05/2025 07:18

Calling people pathetic for such an insignificant thing is actually horrible. You actually sound bitter and unhappy.

Middleagedstriker · 01/05/2025 07:16

BallerinaRadio · 01/05/2025 06:45

So what? I struggle to see how this could annoy anybody. Not really. If they want to post it just let them post it and move on

I guess this is why some people love all the insta bollocks and some hate it. I'm not on FB/insta etc anymore as it's just dross I can do without. I just can't bear the fakeness.

I don't care for the people want to do it but surely you can see why some people find things annoying that you don't? Or does nothing bug you on SM?

OP, what particularly is triggering you?

Might be worth considering this? I mean this in a kind way.

Also to note, social media I believe depresses people, so perhaps have a little break?

People get irritated by all sorts of trivial crap and post about it. So what?

Might be worth considering this? I mean this in a kind way.

This kind of patronising nonsense is far more annoying. Esp the disingenuous use of ‘kind’!

What is a wholesome weekend?

An opposite to a sordid weekend 😁

balloonraces · 01/05/2025 07:09

I like to read the hungover threads 😆 nothing wholesome about feeling like that I’m tellin ya !!

BallerinaRadio · 01/05/2025 07:04

A mum might have had a really shitty weekend with her kids, it's been long and hard and she's felt like giving up but that little Facebook post even if it's not necessarily true might have just given her the little lift she needed to feel better.

Just let her post it without judgment ffs
