OK now I want to preface this with just saying that I’m normally VERY precious about these matters (my pearls are usually firmly in my hand being clutched) but when I had the memory of this event earlier - I laughed like a drain - I just had to see the funny side.

Ahem - anyway - around the early part of 1999 I would say as best guess - I was living back with my Dad - mum died - after a break up.

Most people used landlines still in 1999, imo.

Anyway, our main house phone was on a bench next to the front door and opposite this is the downstairs loo.

Anyway what I think the preamble to this event was is that my friend phoned, my Dad was downstairs and answered the phone and I took the call upstairs on the only other phone extension in the house which was in the master bedroom.

My Dad left the phone off the hook - as you did in them days - (this thread doesn’t lend itself to ‘correct’ grammar) - and I picked up the phone upstairs in the master bedroom. The phone must’ve been left off the hook on the downstairs extension because I then started having the phone conversation with my friend and during the course of this conversation with my friend I clearly hear my Dad loudly pissing in the toilet which is located just by the downstairs phone - he’d obviously left the toilet door fully open and as I said, the downstairs phone off the hook.

During the phone convo with my friend although she didn’t refer to this directly, I could hear her tone of voice getting a bit embarrassed and self conscious. The pissing seemed to last an eternity.

As I’ve said I’m normally VERY precious in these matters but this made me lol earlier and I couldn’t resist sharing

You do you boo and if you wanna laugh at an old happy memory you do it. I have similar memories that to other people aren’t funny but when it’s you you know the people involved etc it’s so much funnier

haha that was the trouble, ours was in the hallway and it was impossible to have a private conversation. dad would often stand in the hallway and yell to mum in the kitchen, one night my sister had a virus and was dashing to the loo which was there too. least now you can hide away

Ha very true!

What are you usually “ very precious” about? 😐

A gargantuan understatement

On a whole company Zoom call one morning where I used to work one colleague could clearly be heard flushing the loo.
Cue several 'can people please use the mute facility where needed please' messages
