Strangest thing you've had stolen from you?

Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

My parents used old compost bags to bag their garden waste to the tip.

DF got the bags out and left them at the front then the phone rang. These bags were stolen!

A Tom Jones cassette tape from the car.
Yet on the backseat was a sports bag with equipment and clothes.

That's not unusual!

About 12 years ago, I was at a supermarket, with my bag of bags on the hook below the handle. Somebody nicked them when I parked up the trolley to check something - it was crowded.

A few minutes later, I saw my bag of bags on someone else's trolley and nobody around, so took it off the trolley.

It was definitely mine as 1. the main outer bag was from a French supermarket and 2. there was a shopping list in my own handwriting inside.

At a music festival in Butlins Minehead, someone stole the patio table from outside our chalet. We were in the middle of the row so why they chose ours is anybody's guess. It was there when we got back in the wee small hours but gone when we woke up.

tillytoodles1 · 29/04/2025 16:52

We'd just done our monthly shop when we were burgled. They emptied the freezer in the garage, plus groceries from the kitchen. They also stole the keys and took my Husband's car to take it all away in.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 29/04/2025 16:50

My photo from the staff board in reception.

Missey85 · 29/04/2025 16:45

A toaster 🤣 it was purple and my flatmate took it when she left!

Dustmylemonlies · 29/04/2025 16:40

From when I was a teacher: blu-tac.

Posters in my classroom were constantly falling down because kids were pulling back the corners and nicking pieces of blu-tac. This was not one kid or one class, literally happened across multiple schools I worked in over a 10 year period. What's so exciting about bloody blu-tac??

Reallynosuchthing · 29/04/2025 16:30

When a student my DP was broken into and their CD collection stolen... except one. The robbers had taste and left the boyzone CD behind. 😂 Makes me giggle whenever I think of it!

PassingStranger · 29/04/2025 16:29

Same op

In the past wheel caps stolen all 4.
Friend had number plate nicked.

butterpuffed · 29/04/2025 16:22

We used to have far too many apples on our two trees , so always put a large box on our garden wall with a note on it, saying 'Help yourselves' .

One guy did , he took the whole box !!! Cheeky sod !

Bamboozledbylife · 29/04/2025 16:20

Years ago I was selling my flat and had an estate agent round to value it. At the time I'd just popped a load of laundry on the radiators and left him to measure up. When the guy left, I'd gone straight out and when I came home realised there was a gap in items on the radiator where I'd hung underwear. Wasn't until my DP asked where a particular pair of CK underpants were when it dawned on me that that's what was in the gap. He'd only knicked a paid of my fellas boxers!
Nowt as queer as folk as they say!

My washing line! I went to hang my washing out only to realise it was gone! 😆

Someone stole 6 cloth nappies off my line, just Terry squares, not even the shaped kind.
but at least the left the line itself 😂

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 29/04/2025 12:05

The Fashion Police must have been operating in your area. 😉
Back when razor scooters first came out(and were bloody expensive) my son left his in our enclosed, gated yard and some little scrote just stole the handlebars.

Maybe they did me a favour, on reflection. 😆

newrubylane · 29/04/2025 16:13

A TV remote control disappeared during a house party I had when I was a teenager. Assume someone either stole it or somehow broke it and disposed of it, as it never turned up.

GiggleWiggle246 · 29/04/2025 16:12

My food caddy waste bin. Along with my neighbours. At first we thought the council had ceased the service but no. Somebody just waltzed by and picked both up and walked off.

ExistentialThreat · 29/04/2025 16:06

Our goldfish (at Uni). Nicked in a pint glass at a party.

We got him back after some super sleuthing though....

Ashipcalleddignity · 29/04/2025 15:48

Someone kicked our back gate in, breaking the lock. They stole a dead, brown, three month old Christmas tree. They left nice garden furniture, a fire pit, several nice garden ornaments and a expensive bike !

Ploun · 29/04/2025 15:48

A copy of A Room With a View. I was coming home from a festival via coach. I was reading said book when I decided to take a nap. When we were disembarking the book was completely gone. I got on my hands and knees and was looking for the book as was the driver. After 10 mins of looking we gave up.

I only really cared cause the book contained a boy’s number who I had kissed at the festival. I can only imagine that when we stopped at some random Midlands town one of the new passengers swiped it as they walked past. Really random.

Mh67 · 29/04/2025 15:41

Lost all my white pants in a hotel but all the black ones were still there. It was very random.

ItGhoul · 29/04/2025 15:41

Jinglebelljoan · 29/04/2025 15:12

I had a frog that croaked when you walked past it on my front garden, some fucker had it away

My guess is that it was had away by your neighbours who found the croaking irritating.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 29/04/2025 15:41

My mascara!

About 15 years ago, at work, putting on some makeup and nipped to the loo leaving makeup bag on the sink.

It was a crap job, everyone on minimum wage, and I had a Dior mascara that I'd bought myself as a massive treat in the sales.

Someone must have seen it and nabbed it. I hope they were thoroughly disappointed - I'd only bought it because it was the only brand I could find at the time that did a purple mascara!

I've remembered another!! This one is quite outing cos I was so outraged I told everyone.
The car in front of me in the drive thru stole my McDonalds. I had loads of the kids friends staying and had gone to get a huge order, we're talking £80 worth of maccies ... I joked to DD who was in the car with me 'imagine if they gave our order to the car infront and we got a sweaty cheeseburger or fillet of fish'
We got to the window and were handed a bag containing ... you guessed it, a sweaty cheeseburger, no fillet of fish tho.

The car in front had taken all our food and drinks, whe the girl had said thru the wi dow that there were no smartie mcflurries, the thief just quick as you like said she'd have malteaser instead and then drove off bold as brass.
The poor girl at the window was in tears she was so upset.
There was so much food, they must have had to throw it away as there was only 2 of them in the car.
Cheeky fuckers!!!

Edited

I work in a Maccies and this happens more times than you'd think
They suss out the newbies and the ones that look a bit stressed out (I've had it done to me on front counter)
Nothing happens-they get to keep their stolen goods
Cheeky fuckers

My mother was one of these people that if she took a shine to something,it was hers
Even if she hadn't paid for it,she'd just help herself (charity shops are a firm favourite or the 'free' sugars/salt/ketchup in cafes)
Anyway, due to locking myself out one day,I'd given my father a spare key (I knew he'd forget he had it and wouldn't let himself in)
God knows how she got wind of this, but she stole it,had a spare cut and put the original back
For weeks I thought I was going mad
My new cleaning clothes went walkies, then a pair of shoes, then a pan and some other bits and bobs
My post would have been opened and left on the table and food would be missing from the fridge
I went mental at my then teens, thinking they'd waited until if left and snuck back home but they all swore it wasn't them
Then a ring went missing and a candle,I'd had enough,so I took the day off work, set off as normal but hung around, waiting for one of the teens to come home
I saw my mother pull up and let herself in!
I followed her and there she was, stuffing my cleaning products into her bag
She wasn't even ashamed-just brazen and said I bought better products than she did and she deserved them more!
I'm now nc

When I was about 14, I mislaid a piece of art homework.
I wasn't very good at art but this was a surprisingly nice charcoal outline of a woman's body.
My mum wanted it up in the kitchen but I couldn't find it.
I assumed I'd left it at school, chucked it away or it'd been buried in my piles of teenage crap.
I didn't give it a second thought.

Twenty years later, I went to a school reunion.
It wasn't a reunion of close friends, just a very general reunion organised through social media.
At the bar, a woman I'd been loose friends with for a few months at 14 handed me the missing art homework with profuse apologies.
Apparently she'd spotted it in my bedroom, loved it, nicked it, and had it on display everywhere she'd lived since.
I told her she could keep it.

Really outing but hi Christina, if you're here.

A friend had her car broken I to and justvthe steering wheel was pinched!

There was a spate of steering wheel thefts a few years ago. I don’t know what the motivation was but I’m sure (but happy to corrected if I’m wrong) they were BMWs.
