Strangest thing you've had stolen from you?

Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

A sheep’s skull from my garden - it was a next door neighbour as they were moving away

minimadgirl · 29/04/2025 19:59

Someone stole 2 bits off the front of my mini, only realised when I drove home and my front grill fell off.

Someone was obviously trying to steel our wheels off our folding caravan at a service station, we must have disturbed them. As got back and the trims had gone and all the wheel nuts were loose or on the floor, good job we didn't move off. I was more annoyed as there was a bus next to us all the time and the driver sat on a chair next to our caravan the whole time.

Someone took my bat man radio aerial bobble off my car. My mini didn't look the sane without it.

Binglebong · 29/04/2025 19:55

My left headlight.

I had an old car - so old in fact that I noticed the one other who drove in the area. I assume they noticed me too as I went out to the car one day and I was missing a light. The same car also had a missing branded hub cap at one point. Until one day it didn't and I did....

I have a holiday let & amongst the many random things that holiday makers steal I lose a bathroom bin at least once a season. They cost a couple of quid from Home Bargains but for some reason they’re seen as the best contraband in Cornwall.

I cannot imagine the mentality of people who are prepared to spend thousands on a holiday & then steal a bathroom bin. I can only assume it’s the “we’ve paid for it, we need to get our money’s worth” attitude.

Edit: managed to post twice!

BlossomMoon · 29/04/2025 19:41

We were broken into. They only took a jardiniere. It had a plant in it. I only noticed it missing when I went to water the plant. That's all they took though 🤔

I did wonder about this last time I was in an Airbnb. They had the most beautiful pink huge Le Creuset pot. I obviously wasn’t going to take it, but omg, I was drooling at that and the stunning place mats (National Art gallery style). I wonder if they’d charge/have the ability to charge if they noticed stuff missing in between guests. I can’t imagine not using such a fantastic item myself: why leave it in the Airbnb? It was a ‘proper’ country property, I think I’d buy it were it for sale (the house).

Someone broke into our garden and dug up 4 fuschias!? It still baffles me.

I had a frog that croaked when you walked past it on my front garden, some fucker had it away

oh lord i have done that to my mother in law. she has those annoying sound like ornaments that make noise when you walk past them 🙄 everytime we go there( and not just us but other members of family too ) sneakily move it to the bin or throw it in the car to go in our bin. latest one was a gnome that whistles every time you walk past it. like why ?
she has cottoned on it us we think but because of there us like 10 of us altogether she can't blame a specific one 🤣 but just keeps buying them

Not stolen from me but something I stole... at a house party when I was 18, very drunk to the extent someone called my dad to pick me up. I was vomiting and went home with the plastic insert from inside my friend's bathroom bin on my lap, using it as a sick bucket. A few weeks later said to her "oh, I've got the thing from inside your bin by the way" and she couldn't stop laughing as her dad had been scratching his head and searching for it, not understanding where on earth it could have gone.

LadyAsnowt · 29/04/2025 19:29

Somebody stole the bus stop in my DB'S village. There are only two buses a week so maybe they thought it wouldn't be missed.

graceinspace999 · 29/04/2025 19:26

Dug a few rows of onions, strung them together and hung them from our veranda to dry.

Next day every single one was gone- I could have cried given the hard work that went into those beautiful onions. 🧅

Ooh, a monkey stole my and my husband's toothbrushes several years ago!

A monkey stole 9yo DS’s camera from him. We got it back and the monkey had taken photos!

MargaretThursday · 29/04/2025 19:05

A snowman!

Dd was 2yo and it snowed about 2" so we went to make her first snowman. She was full of cold, so we made one as quickly as we could in our front garden (we had a huge tree in the back garden so snow didn't get through it enough to make one).

It was about 18" high, and we gave it a hat made out of an old drinking chocolate tin, and a scarf from a jay cloth then went in for her to sleep.
When she woke up a couple of hours later, someone had obviously taken it with a spade as there was a clear square of ground surrounded by snow.

It was obviously made by a young child, and fairly rubbish, so I did feel it was a bit mean. Otoh, who on earth pinches a snowman rather than make their own when a normal adult could have made a similar one in less than 10 minutes?

Some years ago, I experienced a bizarre but very sad theft . My two pedigree guinea pigs were stolen from their run in my garden and the little bed they used too.

CherryRipe1 · 29/04/2025 18:56

Me and an ex boyfriend went to drive home after a night out at Reading Top Rank Suite circa '78 and someone has stolen 3 of his car tyres and propped the car up on bricks.

Justfreedom · 29/04/2025 18:30

Comdoms i hope they got used well.

hipposcanweartutus · 29/04/2025 18:20

So this happened to my Nan years ago! She had a doctors appointment and was asked to take a urine sample with her but the only container she had was a small, empty whisky bottle. She washed it out and sterilised it with boiling water, decanted her pee into and put it in her bag. By the time she got to the doctors, someone had pinched it! Bet they got a shock when they drank that whisky! Karma!

As an impecunious student I’d just been to the laundrette. I hung my clothes on the line. All my bras were pinched. I phoned up the police (I did not dial 999, just called the local station) because it seemed a bit dodgy. They laughed at me! As I am generously endowed my bras were expensive, and I really couldn’t afford to replace them.

In the long ago days of CDs, my sister’s car was broken into. Turns out even thieves have standards. They generously left her Cliff Richard CDs.

My car was broken into and similarly the thieves didn’t take my Olivia Newton John CDs. Which I was quite offended about.

MrsBuntyS · 29/04/2025 17:59

My son’s day old Nike trainers from outside our door when we lived in HK. The person must have been really desperate because stealing there is taken very seriously, I didn’t report it and bought new ones. Made me really think about the wealth gap. Children’s shoes are very expensive there even though that’s where they are made (well nearby).

Bonbon249 · 29/04/2025 17:56

My ex did some data entry work for the court system and one guy broke into office premises and stole a sellotape dispenser! He also told me a surprising number of guys get done for public indecency when they're found having a wee in a tenement stairwell (Scottish city)!

Jabberwok · 29/04/2025 17:50

Not me but Bristol city council....a "friend" I bumped into looking very smart one lunchtime told me he was up in court for sawing the top off parking meters for the money inside...imagine all that work for £4.60 (parking back.then was 20p an hour)
