Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

Many years ago at my mum's house she had a medium size tree (10 metres) fall down on her land and next to a public footpath but a fair way from the road.

Any someone came along, cut it with a chainsaw at the base and then nicked the rest of it. Whilst it saved us a tree surgeon job, we were more puzzled about how they managed to transport that much wood away.

No, but we were in Indonesia! Staying at the tip of Sulawesi, went out diving for the day, came back, no toothbrushes. Spoke to manager, she apologised for the macaques and gave us each a brand new toothbrush 😆

Damn that Indonesian wildlife!

Were you also innocently carrying them down the street in Lombok, Indonesia, when an errant vicious monkey demanded them?

I had a boiler stolen from my house. We picked up our keys at 9am, went to start moving in at around 10.30 and no boiler. It had been cut out, sealed off properly. Basically someone had taken out a newly fitted bathroom window, removed the boiler and then put the window back. Leaving footprints, finger prints all over the downstairs bathroom and window next to the utility room.

It was a rental, recently refitted. The landlord and Police suspected the plumbers that had done the refit. Sure enough they were involved in a string of similar robberies, selling probably the same boiler more than once! I was surprised they thought they could get away with it really.

Someone smashed my car window and rooted through detritus when I was a student. Deliberately left the "now" pop compilation CDs... I felt it was a judgemental slight ..

Not me, but a friend had her handbag stolen off her trolley in Aldi. She soon had the whole shop shut down to find the thief and her bag....only to find it hooked to her trolley where she left it. She'd nicked someone else's trolley and left hers behind 😆😆

That happened a lot at my previous job. Customers put something in a trolley and walk off with it. Or get customers asking where their trolley is.

I remember one lady pushing another customer's trolley and noticed there was a bag of dry dog food in there. I knew she is allergic to dogs. I saw her trolley on the corner of the milk/butter chiller.

I got "pickpocketed" - they stole something from the front zip pouch of my bag (all the other sections were secure so not posible to get into). They stole my Body Shop Moroccan Argan Oil Lip Balm. The only thing in there.

I was in Morocco at the time.

Talk about coals to Newcastle...

On the plus side the staff in the store when I got back thought it was so funny they replaced it for free!

That reminds me of the time I felt someone attempting to pickpocket me in London on one of the big sporting events when it was rammed.

Only problem for them was I had a stinking cold at the time and the only thing in my pocket was a really disgusting snotty hanky!

I really hope they got my cold because it was awful!

I once had a garden bench stolen from outside my front door. I wasn't particularly bothered as I didn't really use it. But I was very confused when it reappeared about a year later, back in the exact same spot like I'd imagined the whole thing.

A big patio sweeping brush recently.Had it for years and can't seem to find an exact replacement in size and stiffness of bristles .Had left it round the front of the house briefly.Really annoying.

Catwench · 30/04/2025 12:18

Try eBay, we had some fake ones off there for £10 as all 4 of them were stolen. It was enough to spend incase they were stolen too and you couldn’t tell any difference.

The parcel shelf from the boot of my car.....and a 1m long schooling whip! I'm assuming kids, one picked up the whip, one grabbed the shelf and off they went up the road whacking ten bells out of each other 🤷

Godsteethmalcolm · 30/04/2025 08:39

A Bob Marley tape and some contracepiive pills. Got burgled. They left the boom box but nicked the audio tape (in the machine at the time). Very odd.

In my younger days, a useless bf stole a pack of DoDo decongestants and a roll of bacofoil. Which explained why he was so useless.

My dog poo bin. Luckily it was almost full when it was nicked so karma was pretty immediate I imagine 😂

Jesus!! You win.

Nellodee · 30/04/2025 07:30

A pack of my monthly contact lenses. Absolutely no use to 99.99% of the population who don’t have my terrible eyesight.

My sister had her clothes, shoes (& food) stolen by her tenant/lodger. She saw her out wearing them but the girl denied they were my sister's. She got a lock put on her bedroom door, I'd have just evicted her.

My car was stolen in the early 90s. I found it abandoned the next day. I had a couple of veg crates of music tapes in it. They took the ones they liked and left the rest.

fuzzypeach · 30/04/2025 05:52

Someone once stole a large snowman from our front garden! It was found further down the road, back in one piece and complete with DCs hat and scarf!

I had my wheelchair stolen while flying from the UK to Spain. It was the first time we'd flown since I became disabled, and we asked for advice at the airport as to how we should proceed. We were told to check my wheelchair in, and use an airport one from check-in to the plane. When we arrived, we waited for it to come through on the conveyor belt, our suitcase arrived, but no wheelchair. Eventually everyone else's luggage had been and gone, and with no sign of my wheelchair, the signs at the conveyor belt changed for a different flight, so we went and asked what we should do at the Help Desk. It was suggested that it might come in on the next flight, so we waited for that, but no sign of my wheelchair, and we still had a 2 hour drive to get to our accommodation, so eventually we were told that we could borrow one of the airport wheelchairs, which don't fold up, and as we'd only ordered a small hire car, we then had to pay for a larger vehicle, and wait for it to be ready for us. My wheelchair was made specifically to fit me, so this was far from ideal, but there was no other choice. The airport promised faithfully that they would deliver it to us when it arrived, but it was never seen again!! I did of course put in a letter of complaint, and received a telephone call from the CEO of the company we flew with, who made abject apologies, sent me a bouquet of flowers, and paid the excess on my claim for a replacement wheelchair through my travel insurance, but the whole thing was a nightmare from start to finish. Needless to say, I now don't let my wheelchair out of my sight, travel out to the plane in it, and then my DH watches it being loaded, before joining me in the plane.

Woman stole my perfume and shampoo from my bed room.
This woman who my first boyfriend worked with used to drive him to work. She definitely had a crush on him, and was definitely not all there. One day she was at ours and she kept asking me about my hair and make up. I told her what I used and thought nothing of it. She needed the loo but said she was claustrophobic, so I let her go through our room to the big bathroom. The next day my shampoo and perfume were gone along with my skin tint. I told boyfriend I thought she had stolen them. He said I was being insane and I had probably misplaced them. Next morning he gets in her car and instantly knew she had nicked them because she smelled like me. Exactly like me. He stopped getting lifts form her because he was a bit freaked out, and a few weeks later she got fired for yelling at their boss because he wouldn’t give her the day off to see the killers. She would have absolutely skinned me and wore my skin if she had the chance.

A lovely shopping bag out of my trolley in the shop.
Milk delivery. Regularly missing milk. Neighbour's orange juice used to disappear as well.

TouchtheEarth · 30/04/2025 01:43

Ripped t-shirt that would have been too small for the thief.
Along with a negligee (never worn) that she'd given me for Christmas.

My ceramic pumpkin bowl at Halloween 🤨

Not so much the theft of the bowl that pissed me off - I chose to use it instead of a cheap, plastic pumpkin, but the fact that it was a limited edition M&S bowl that I won’t be able to replace now 🫠🫠🫠🫠

In Thailand over 20 years ago both me and my friend had our flip flops stolen from where we were staying. They were the only footwear we had so we ended up walking barefoot through the dirty streets of Bangkok to the market to buy some more.
