Strangest thing you've had stolen from you?

Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

Bicycle seat

Nofireplace · 16/11/2025 18:29

Not oerosnally but someone kept stealing airfreshener from toilet in cafe I run. Every fucking time we got new one it dissappeared within couple of days. Sometimes twice a week. I still wonder what did someone need that amount for😂

hattie43 · 16/11/2025 18:19

A hanging basket .

Hatehayfever · 16/11/2025 18:15

Years ago. A silky bra and knickers from my room in a Bayswater student hostel. Also a red Etam mini-skirt was bever seen again.

Ilovehighlandcows · 16/11/2025 18:08

In the 80s someone stole my mum's favourite pair of jeans from the washing line.

Tinatubby73 · 16/11/2025 18:02

Years ago when I was living away from home, wed moved out of the rented place to our own home.went back a few days later,as we'd left a few things behind, and they'd broken in and stolen the marble fireplace.all of it. They'd even cut the gas pipe leaving the place full of gas. Good job the cleaner realised and didn't turn on the light, the whole street would've gone up!!!

BrickBiscuit · 16/11/2025 17:42

Someone once broke into my car, without doing any damage, and found nothing to nick. They did leave a nice pair of pliers behind though. I used them for years before giving them to a friend.

RoseLavenderBlue · 16/11/2025 17:17

Also had the inner Renault logo caps from my car alloy wheels stolen.

Went on a school residential in the early 80s when I was about ten and someone stole the talc from my toiletry bag.

Hanging baskets from outside my house.

About 30 yrs ago I lent a friend who was struggling, a dress for a special occasion. She never returned it even though I went to her house and asked for it back. She refused to let me in. I was still paying for it from the catalogue! So I consider that theft.

A decorator stole my dustpan and brush.

Towels and a pillowcase (from a set) from my holiday let.

Probably loads more!

Late MiL lived in a corner house with a tallish shrubby hedge round the perimeter of her garden where she had one of those whirlygig washing lines. Some guy climbed through the hedge and stole all her clean pants off the line. They were comfy pants, not wispy thongs either. The culprit was caught after targeting several local washing lines and the evidence found in his flat 🤮

Someone stole our washing line, and the pulley that it went through.

Perimenopop · 16/11/2025 16:49

A pair of glasses, prescription ones.

Genevieva · 16/11/2025 16:43

A large plant tray that fitted in a frame of three, but not the rest of the article, from our allotment.

A hairbrush from a swimming pool changing room.

Arlanymor · 16/11/2025 16:43

I pack of quavers from my car glove compartment. They broke the passenger window in a multi-storey and probably were looking for money, but as I didn't leave anything of value in the car they took the only thing they could. I thought they would be caught as they must have been caught as they left a keyring behind which must have had fingerprints all over it, but apparently not. It cost me £200 to replace the window as it was tinted.... versus a packet of 50p crisps.

RoseInBloome7 · 16/11/2025 16:40

Prescription sunglasses from my car . They weren’t even designer but really pissed me off !

Confusedmeanderings · 16/11/2025 16:38

I was having a particularly fraught run up to Christmas, culminating in some lowlife snatching my handbag at the supermarket as I unloaded my shopping into my car. Instinctively I lobbed the item that was in my hand at him. It happened to be a jar of Branstons pickle, so nice and heavy. I am an absolutely lousy shot, but miraculously it hit him on the head. He yelped and dropped the bag and ran off. I was feeling quite proud of myself but then it went a bit downhill. What I meant to do was shout after him a stream of impressive swear words, what actually came out of my mouth was "You're a very naughty boy!" Not quite the 'don't mess with me' image I was trying to project!

JohnTheRevelator · 16/11/2025 15:54

Not sure if this counts as strange, but someone nicked my walking stick a few years ago. I was in a coffee shop and I'd left it propped up against the table,as I had done on many previous occasions when I went to the counter to get my coffee and something to eat. When I got back 5 minutes later,my stick was gone. What sort of person steals a disabled person's walking stick?!

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/11/2025 15:45

DM has some underwear and PJs stolen off her line. She's in her 80s. We're blaming the perv next door.

Lengokengo · 16/11/2025 15:33

i had some designer jeans nicked from tree laundry room at uni.

someone probably saw the label and took them however… I got them from my aunt who had tried to customise them and went wrong, so they were really short and narrow in the leg ( I am very short and was the shortest in my halls so didn’t bother me) but the waist was really large ( I just used a belt). Whoever nicked them would not have been able to wear them unless an extremely odd shape and very short. Serves them right.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/11/2025 15:23

Loads of band T shirts in dribs and drabs when we had a cleaner years ago -like 1 a week for weeks .

CatamaranViper · 16/11/2025 15:15

I had this really pretentious trilby hat that I absolutely loved. In hindsight, I looked like a prat. I took it off for rehearsals and at the end I went to get my stuff and it was gone. It was only a small group of students who used the space and all on my course so if they ever wore it I'd recognise it straight away.
A part of me wonders if a friend binned it to get me to stop wearing it...

I know this is a resurrected thread but I think I might win.

My central heating was stolen.

😂🤣. My boiler was stolen before I moved into my house when it was vacant. I think ££ for scrap value or reselling.

My clothes by a cleaner. It was years ago (I posted about it in here) she said to me ‘oh if you can’t find anything it’s just I’ve tried to put bits away for you’ and then I kept losing items of clothing was a bit confused. Saw her one day out and about and she looked so anxious and was acting really weird ? I was rushing and couldn’t put my finger on it then it dawned on me she was wearing a full outfit of my clothes ! I text her and said ‘by the way I liked your cardigan where’s that from?’ She lied so I said please drop my keys back asap. She didn’t respond so I changed the locks.

zingally · 16/11/2025 11:38

At school in the late 90s I had my entire backpack nicked!
I'd been in the library one lunch time and the rule was that we had to leave our bags by the entrance. I went to collect mine, and it was gone.
About 3 days later it was "found" shoved in a locker in a classroom a few doors down from my form room. I'd had £15 in there, which was gone (quite a lot of money to 14yo me in those days!), and worse, my two tamagotchis!!

About a year later, a "friend" of mine hide my bag in the toilets after we'd had an argument. I knew about it right away, as I'd been IN the toilets when I heard her come in with another girl and recognised her voice. And there was my bag in the next cubicle. "Friend" hadn't know I was in there. I confronted her and she did apologize, but it reminded me of the stolen bag incident of the year before... I had no proof, but I suspect she was involved.

My son's bins have been targetted multiple times when he's not been around to bring them in immediately after emptying.
The local authority has replaced them FOC several times but he's just had to pay to replace one.

This happens a lot in my daughter's area. If you paint an address on the bin it gets nicked anyhow as the thieves remove it with paint stripper. Recently we have used a soldering iron to engrave her address deeply into the plastic which has deterred the thieves so far.
