Strangest thing you've had stolen from you?

Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

2 pots from our front garden, not even with particularly nice plants in, weighed a lot too.

Edited

Same. A lovely potted plant I’d just put in my door step. Was bloody raging

When I was a kid I was out shopping with my Mum and we had some shopping in our trolley and just coming out the car park. Someone approached her and bent over the trolley to ask for the time. When we got back to the car she realised one of the bags was missing which was a pair of cropped trousers she had bought with a gift card and a Jacqueline Wilson book for me! Not sure if that was what they were after...

GeorgianaM · 29/04/2025 11:45

My stepdaughter was showing potential buyers (a couple) around her home when the woman stole a perfume bottle left out in the bedroom.

She had lingered behind in the bedroom and came out and had removed a chiffon type scarf from around her neck and had it bundled up in front of her as if to conceal something.

She was fussing with it and as they entered another bedroom she dropped it and simply picked it up and put it down on a bedside table.

Not a word was spoken about it as my stepdaughter was lost for words.

The couple were millionaires and the fragrance was readily available to buy so it must have been some kind of thrill seeking attempt!

The husband didn't bat an eyelid or acknowledge it either!

They didn't buy the house!

mintandpistachio · 29/04/2025 11:44

We had our apartment repainted and one of the painters stole my large Global knife worth £140 that I'd saved up to buy just a few months earlier... Painter denied it (when I politely asked if they had moved it somewhere when painting – I didn't accuse them!) but we had a magnetic knife block in the kitchen and I know I put it back up after washing it before going to work that morning!

Newdress93 · 29/04/2025 11:43

@YesThatsATurdOnTheRug exactly I am naiive as I said!
I've reached the grand age of 31 without having had anything like it happen before. My parents were always telling me stories of things being stolen back in the 80s + 90s!

Someone knicked your knickers! Sorry that ticked me.

How many knickers would a knicker nicker nick if a knicker nicker could nick knickers?

Cucy · 29/04/2025 11:42

There was a thing about this on radio 1 a few years ago but I still laugh about it to myself.

One was they had all of their CDs in a CD case in their car and someone had stolen it but had obviously gone through it first because they’d taken all of the celine dion CDs behind.

Another one was someone stole a multi bag of walkers crisps out of their car but open the bag to remove all of the salt and vinegar ones and took all of the rest.

Its not funny when you think about it because it’s wrong but you have to laugh about how people can be so brass to break into someone’s car and then be picky about what they take.
I guess even low life criminals have taste 😂

Had a house party in my younger days and someone stole a pack of portobello mushrooms from the fridge 😆

Edited

probably thought they were magic!

tootiredtobeinspired · 29/04/2025 11:41

A marrow. I accidentally left a courgette on the plant too long and it grew into an enormous marrow. My MIL wanted it for the church harvest festival display where it was promptly nicked within 2 days. Why?? It was heavy and awkward to carry and would have tasted horrid! People are weird.

menopausalfart · 29/04/2025 11:40

I had the hose connector stolen last year. They cost a couple of quid, yet someone came round the side of my house, undid my hose, and stole the connector.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 29/04/2025 11:40

You thought the world had moved on from stealing other people's things?! I'm not being mean I just can't get my head round that sentence. People steal as much now as ever, surely?!

My favourite coat from the corner of a nightclub (only from top shop but couldn't get another!) and my Lego men from a tree in my garden when I was a kid. Heartbroken!!

PhilippaGeorgiou · 29/04/2025 11:38

I got "pickpocketed" - they stole something from the front zip pouch of my bag (all the other sections were secure so not posible to get into). They stole my Body Shop Moroccan Argan Oil Lip Balm. The only thing in there.

I was in Morocco at the time.

Talk about coals to Newcastle...

On the plus side the staff in the store when I got back thought it was so funny they replaced it for free!

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 29/04/2025 11:37

A bag containing rolls of plastic bags from just inside the back door. Sneak thief had previously taken my handbag and then a fruit bowl (with fruit) on separate occasions. My neighbour said it was probably the fish man (van going door to door selling fresh fish) who was very unreliable.

She made us laugh one day when she came round to say 'watch out, the fish man is back', which made me think of a doctor who episode.

Later found out it was boys from the High School.

A watch and a display vintage tiny bottle of Bovril. This was by the same person. I’m still friends with her but not seen her in years. She thinks no one notices that she steals stuff.

I am really curious that you are still friends.
Did you get the things back?
Did you challenge her?
Does she still steal?

So many questions!!!

EilishMcCandlish · 29/04/2025 11:34

My glasses.
Someone broke into my flat. All they took was my pair of glasses. They were not particularly stylish, expensive or designer. Just an ordinary pair of glasses. I am extremely short sighted, but with a very different prescription in both eyes, so it is not likely they would have been of any use to anyone.

PoorUncleBarry · 29/04/2025 11:33

A punchbag from my garage. The worst thing was I saw it happen but thought it was my dad as the thief was wearing similar clothes so I didn't chase him away. Who steals a punchbag ffs.

randomchap · 29/04/2025 11:33

Compost. I came back from work one day and the compost bin has been moved.

The bin has been full of compost that was unusable as we'd had a potato scab infection and we thought it had come from it. We'd been wondering how to dispose of it and were quite happy that some idiot solved our problem for us

A brand new set of three knickers from the washing machine at Uni. I was incensed as they were from M&S and nice bright colours, was kicking myself for leaving the packet in the laundry room bin, someone must have spotted it and nicked them.

Someone knicked your knickers! Sorry that ticked me.

Errolwasahero · 29/04/2025 11:31

Wow I thought mine was petty! The metal incinerator bin we used to hold the bags while people filled them with manure. We gave them away; someone came to get manure and took it with him. People are arseholes.

MounjarNo · 29/04/2025 11:30

While we were asleep, someone got into our flat in London and took the kettle (but not the base bit with the plug) and a packet of bacon out of the fridge. Nothing else even though there was cash and other valuables in plain sight.

They must have really wanted a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich!

Creepybookworm · 29/04/2025 11:30

2 knives from my knife block....left the others. Same burglars stole all the meat from freezer and my laundry basket...but not the lid. Perhaps to transport the loot.

99namechanges · 29/04/2025 11:26

A work friend came round for a cup of tea, she stole the mug (20p from ikea) and a knife from the knife block in the kitchen.

Katemax82 · 29/04/2025 11:26

I accidentally left my black trousers in the locker room at college, some cunt nicked them! (Suddenly had a light bulb moment, maybe they got handed in to lost property?)
