Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

My bags for life from my Trolley in Sains
Me and a member of staff went off in pursuit and spotted them, the man who took them tried to claim they were his but I knew he was lying as they were quite distinctive and made him hand them over. Staff member gave him free ones to stop him kicking off which did annoy me somewhat.

Not me but my friends elderly Dad walked down the road to post a letter and someone had stolen the post box. It was a small postbox on a pole but still.

This just made me giggle- can’t imagine someone walking down the road with a post box tucked under their arm Grin

Not me, but... a guy we knew was in the pub with a small cheap rucksack filled with lion poo, his dad had collected it from the safari park to see if it would deter pooing foxes. It was nicked. It reeked through 3 bag layers, hence why it had been put in the corner, we had no idea how someone stole it without realising it stank.

Regarding hub caps, when it's just one it probably fell off, try driving back along your route.

Probably a member of staff put it in the outside bin 😂

A old man about 90 nicked my sunglasses in San Francisco in 2007. I’ve never forgiven him! Only pair of expensive sunglasses Ive ever had.

He was a conman. Boyfriend and I were taking photos at a tourist attraction and he offered to take one of both of us. My sunglasses were on top of my head and he said “Here let me hold them”. I thought “what a kind man”. He took the photo and disappeared. I went to put my glasses on and realised. Spoke to staff -apparently it was a regular occurrence.

Colleague's husband is a publican; many regulars and a nice pub garden.
One old lady who lived in a nearby block of flats was very sad when her beloved cat died, and fretted about having no garden where her dear departed puss could rest in piece.
As she was a regular, he kindly offered to let her bring poor moggie in for burial ina quiet corner of the garden where she so often sat and socialised.
As she approached the pub, gently carrying the deceased, lovingly swathed, in a carrier bag, two ne'er-do-wells rushed up, grabbed what like a bag of groceries, and ran away.
I wonder what they made of the bag's contents when they opened it to examine their haul......

Someone stole my hat and coat out of my car years ago. It was a 2CV, so I rarely locked it, as most people couldn't cope with the gear stick. A nice but not posh long black coat from Chelsea Girl and a floppy black velvet beret. Grr.

Also, someone popped the lock of my car overnight outside my son's flat in London, stole the cassette player but carefully placed the cassette that was inside on the passenger's seat. It was Bach's violin concertos and I didn't know whether to be pleased that I'd still got a favourite cassette or offended that they thought my taste was rubbish.

Tarkan · 29/04/2025 12:13

I’ve just remembered one from my first place after moving out of home. It was a big block of flats and we had had issues with one set of neighbours. We were so relieved when they did a midnight flit. Then a few days later the police came to the door asking what we knew about them as they’d stolen the boiler from the flat when they moved.

I had the pole of a sweeping brush stolen. I had left it at the back door, when I went back the pole had gone, but they left the brush part.

I also had a broken hoover that was out the front for disposal stolen.

It was probably Trigger

shellyleppard · 29/04/2025 12:09

Someone stole my car aerial at a country park. I used to work as a home help and kept a small emergency overnight bag in my car.....that got nicked 🙄 all they would have got was two pairs of clean knickers and toothpaste and toothbrush 🤣🤣

AnneKipankitoo · 29/04/2025 12:07

A red warning triangle sign that we put up as my husband was hedge cutting near a busy road.
He was clearing up, popped in the house for a few minutes, and I looked out of an upstairs window to see a purple Nissan Micra pull into our driveway. The driver got out , put the sign in his boot and drove off.

My favourite shellsuit was nicked off our washing line in the 80s 😆

The Fashion Police must have been operating in your area. 😉
Back when razor scooters first came out(and were bloody expensive) my son left his in our enclosed, gated yard and some little scrote just stole the handlebars.

Judiezones · 29/04/2025 12:05

A friend of mine had 4 lovely hanging baskets along the front of her house. They disappeared and she noticed that very similar looking ones appeared the same day on the front of a house not far away, where a would-be gangster lived with his parents. My friend knocked and asked about them and the mum admitted she suspected her son had stolen them, so my friend took them back.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 29/04/2025 12:03

A ceramic elephant from my back garden. It was quite heavy too. The side gate was open but it didn't occur to me that I'd been robbed until it dawned on me that my garden ornaments were gone. The police tracked down the cheap ones on the green space beside my house, but my lovely ceramic elephant was never found.

At secondary school someone stole a scarf my DGM had knitted for me. Claimed she had bought the clearly handknitted scarf from a shop.

It really upset me at the time because she was so bare-faced in her lies. Eventually someone retrieved it for me but obviously it has stuck with me for 40 odd years.

More recently someone stole a couple of steaks, a bag of chips and a couple of cans of beer from our garage. Obviously fancied them for dinner. They hadn't taken all the contents of the freezer or all the beer, just enough for a meal!

We do now keep the garage locked up at all times.

SpikyCelia · 29/04/2025 12:02

I bought a beautiful artist made, copper dragonfly that I placed in the garden. My psycho bastard bully of a neighbour who, apart from terrorising me, probably heard me on his CCTV telling my friend how much I loved it, took it one night and bragged about it. He was in the emergency services and was mates with a lot of the local police, so no help there.... Over several years he stole and damaged a lot of my stuff so eventually I moved house. I heard through the grapevine a couple of years ago that COVID hit him hard, and he was reduced to living his life in his chair or bed. I have no sympathy. Karma is all!

Somebody smashed my car window in a Sainsbury's car park and stole the parcel shelf. A friend had a whole rockery stolen from her front garden and just this week, my neighbour had all of his garden furniture stolen, it was taken up into the woods behind us and when they had finished they set fire to the whole lot.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 29/04/2025 11:52

Not particularly weird I suppose but it still irks me. My ex had a party when I was at work and someone stole my (probably fake) lucite Dior bangle and my Usher CD. Yes, it was the 00's 🙈

Liverpool52 · 29/04/2025 11:49

All of my Nectar points. We always save them to use on a big shop for Christmas or when friends come for a weekend. I was raging. To be fair Nectar reinstated without question because they could see they'd been used in a place where my own use of the card showed I was 300 miles away about half an hour later. But the faff of having to set up a new account was pretty annoying as well.

frecklejuice · 29/04/2025 11:49

We were burgled during the day about 20 years ago, came home in the evening and someone had kicked a hole in the very flimsy front door. As we drove up my husband asked what the hell I had done that morning because as you looked at the house it was lit up in every window! Someone had come in, gone around the house and turned on every single light then all they took with them was my coat and a bag I had hanging by the front door and my new spare glasses that were on the stairs! I took it quite personally and it did freak me out for a while but nothing like that ever happened again. 🤷‍♀️

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 29/04/2025 11:48

As an impecunious student I’d just been to the laundrette. I hung my clothes on the line. All my bras were pinched. I phoned up the police (I did not dial 999, just called the local station) because it seemed a bit dodgy. They laughed at me! As I am generously endowed my bras were expensive, and I really couldn’t afford to replace them.

In the long ago days of CDs, my sister’s car was broken into. Turns out even thieves have standards. They generously left her Cliff Richard CDs.

Aliflowers · 29/04/2025 11:48

Also not me but a good friend. House broken into and among the vast amount of stuff stolen (jewelry, electronics, handbags) they stole her vibrator. Fucking grim that you’d take a used sex toy but I suppose these scrotes have no shame anyway

TortolaParadise · 29/04/2025 11:47

Back in my teenage days a ' friend' stole a boyband cassette. Ran into an old school 'friend' recently and in a very vague way (semi confessional) she said when she was younger she used to get jealous if others had things she didn't like cassettes...

I worked out at the time it was her but couldn't prove it. We swapped numbers but I'm unsure about keeping in touch. 👀

Goatblu · 29/04/2025 11:47

A pair of knickers from a hotel in Bordeaux. They were inside the wardrobe in a 'dirty laundry' bag. The socks I'd worn were still there.
