Strangest thing you've had stolen from you?

Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

Someone punched out the window of the ancient banger my friend had and stole his elderly (must have been 20 years old) radio and my half used perfume from the glove compartment

How did they possibly managed to nick the curtains from the GP surgery?😺

They were in the patients toilet. Someone had just gone in, taken them down and stolen them..

catkeys · 29/04/2025 13:59

A plant from the front garden (in a previous house)! It was in a lovely area too, and the street was not a thoroughfare.

Swirlythingy2025 · 29/04/2025 13:59

my sanity .

that said it was a filofax with different companys/ contact / drop off locations etc details in it, now i use a normal A4 folder with lined paper in it.

I've remembered another!! This one is quite outing cos I was so outraged I told everyone.
The car in front of me in the drive thru stole my McDonalds. I had loads of the kids friends staying and had gone to get a huge order, we're talking £80 worth of maccies ... I joked to DD who was in the car with me 'imagine if they gave our order to the car infront and we got a sweaty cheeseburger or fillet of fish'
We got to the window and were handed a bag containing ... you guessed it, a sweaty cheeseburger, no fillet of fish tho.

The car in front had taken all our food and drinks, whe the girl had said thru the wi dow that there were no smartie mcflurries, the thief just quick as you like said she'd have malteaser instead and then drove off bold as brass.
The poor girl at the window was in tears she was so upset.
There was so much food, they must have had to throw it away as there was only 2 of them in the car.
Cheeky fuckers!!!

My bluebell room scent from the National Trust was stolen from my office a decade ago. It still pisses me off when I think of it, especially as they stopped making it.

My action girl dolls head...I know it was you Eileen 🤨

bringbackthespira · 29/04/2025 13:52

from work, a dental surgery, huge amount of mess, broken windows only to find they stole 2 tins of tuna and some hot cross buns
nothing else was touched.

A rugby ball shaped stress ball with the local rugby club logo on it was stolen off my desk at work. I still miss it.

An old sweet tin (empty) with a batman logo on. Only cost 99p.

My full size (empty) recycle bin from my front garden. These are provided free from the council.

When I moved into my house I ordered a complete set of free council bins (4 bins). I had to order nearly all of them a second time as the first lot were pinched. People are so fucking lazy and selfish.

WomenInSTEM · 29/04/2025 13:50

When I lived in a house share a housemate had a friend stay over. He stole my 'Hug me, I'm drinking Labbatts Ice' t-shirt.

I was very very pissed off.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 29/04/2025 13:48

Years ago someone broke into my parents’ car and stole the packed lunch from the coolbox. Their expensive video equipment wasn’t taken.

Parked my car under a bridge to go clubbing. Stupidly left coats in foot well to avoid cloakroom fees. Got back and window was smashed. The only thing they'd taken was a can of tango. A few months later I got an email from the police with pictures of stolen items staying to look through to see if I recognised anything I'd lost. Devastatingly the can was not there.

Oh no! My sisters friend had her back windscreen smashed and they just nicked a packet of sweets off the parcel shelf.

honeylulu · 29/04/2025 13:43

The OP reminded me. My husband had an ancient rusty Fiat Uno (which later became mine) and someone once nicked the petrol cap which was sort of like a screw in plug, completely detachable. A couple of years later I left the replacement one on the roof of the car while refuelling and then drove off. A nice man spotted it, picked it up and followed me all the way to work to return it!

Used to live on a main road which had lots of footfall - people heading into or out of town centre. Our neighbour gave us a virburnham bush when she was landscaping her front garden. I left it in our front garden on a canvas thing while I nipped out for 15 mins to get son from nursery (was then going to drag it through house to back garden). In that 15 mins someone stole it. It weighed a ton so they must have had a van or something.

Someone also stole £9 b&q broom that we kept at the side of the house for sweeping gravel off the path.

Second night of holiday in Corfu someone nicked our beach towels off the railings on the little patio.

Years ago someone broke into our flat then scarpered when they realised we were there. They made off with presumably what they could grab on the way out - a money box full of coppers and my young person's railcard. The most annoying thing was that they let the window slam on the way out and it smashed.

A close friend when I was around twenty, let me borrow a jacket of hers for a night out.
A few days later I realised some cheap, but sterling, silver rings of mine were missing, including an unusual one that my mother gave me as a child.
A couple of months later, I happened to be at hers and for some reason we popped to her room. I saw that she had my rings in a bowl on her dressing table-- I realised instantly I must have taken them off and put them in the jacket on the night out.
I took them back, there and then I was so pleased to get them back I can't really remember the excuse she gave as to why she still had them, but after that I kind of knew not to fully trust her. She must have known they were mine and instead of mentioning them when she first found them she would have happily kept them.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 29/04/2025 13:40

I grew up on a rough estate and if someone put their house up for sale and moved out before the new family moved in then it was treated as a free for all.

One house had its fence panels, shed and plants nicked. It was all the next door neighbour and she didn’t hide them- plants were dug up and replanted in her garden, shed was lifted over to her garden and new fence panels in her front garden.

Ilovegermany · 29/04/2025 13:37

I had ordered 3 sandwiches at work to take home for supper. Went to the fridge when I was going home and someone had stolen 2 of them. Had to go and get food for everyone that evening.

glittereyelash · 29/04/2025 13:36

Not me but my mam was in hospital one time and someone stole all her underwear when she gone to get a scan. I still laugh thinking about her ranting down the phone "cant even have a knickers in this dump 😅".

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 29/04/2025 13:35

@Newdress93 a huge planter full of soil and plants from front door! weighed a ton! also had a beanbag stolen from the washing line. the police found that in someone flat and offered it back to me!!

ginnitonic · 29/04/2025 13:33

A neighbour had an anvil stolen from her garden.
Many years ago there was a spate of garden gnome thefts in a nearby town. Soon after they were all discovered, patiently queued at a bus stop.

AndItsRowUponRow · 29/04/2025 13:31

I had a tatty old wooden desk absolutely riddled with woodworm - I'd tried to treat it without success. My neighbour offered to take it to the tip for me and in the few minutes between me shutting the back gate and him driving around with his trailer it vanished.

When I was 7 I stole a friend's tiny blue spade (from a strawberry shortcake toy) because I really wanted to use it to eat chocolate mousse. I have no idea why. I regretted it as soon as I left and pretended to find it in my bag when I got home so Mum would let me run it back and everyone would believe it was an accident... it was in my possession for less than 5 mins and I still feel bad about it 40 years on!

treesandsun · 29/04/2025 13:24

Not the same type of theft but years ago my friend left her child's pushchair outside my front door - which was actually at the side of the house. When she left we noticed my cat in next door's garden, a bit of a distance dragging something around and wondered what it was.
She rang me when she got home and said I know what your bloody cat was dragging around - the steak I bought for my tea! He had nicked it from the basket part under the pushchair.

Foodielady · 29/04/2025 13:24

DH had the bonnet of his car stolen one night. It was parked on the road outside the house.
