AIBU to find 💯 of YouTube ads not only irrelevant to me but also repetitive to the point of me wanting to throw my phone across the room. The xylophone on one of them - is it revolut? I shout “ not relevant to me !” In the sad hope that the Dumpkopf algorithm might hear me and HAVE MERCY ON MY NERVES.
revolut
monzo “MONZO ME? I’VE GOT THIS!” 😣
abs of steel - various
car finance (I didn’t ever buy cars with finance - stop advertising at me you A**les!)
It makes me determined to never patronize these companies - having said that ads have never once been relevant to me on youtube.
Maybe intelligent people go ad free?
Who can stand these ads?

Firefox as browser using the extensions AdBlock Plus, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials and uBlock Origin (possibly don't even need all three, but they're all free) and you won't have any ads again. Oh, and keep them up to date if anything changes.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 28/04/2025 18:05

I pay for YouTube premium and it is so much better without adverts, ad blockers didn’t work that well and I couldn’t be arsed with trying to find one that did

Doingtheboxerbeat · 28/04/2025 17:59

I despise YouTube ads so much, because I'm so used to tiktok ads that are little bit more tailored to what I might actually buy, whereas YouTube are just chucking them out there for anyone and everyone it seems .

Devilsmommy · 28/04/2025 17:53

This is why I have YouTube premium. Zero adverts. £12.99 a month, though I think they do a couple of months free for new subscribers

Pennyssmartwatch · 28/04/2025 17:49

I was already using YouTube music (well I was using GPM but Google killed it) so I just paid slightly more to stop the ads. Can't go back now but I use vouchers I get from work so I'm not actually paying for it really.

wildfellhall · 28/04/2025 17:33

I don’t get shouty eejit saying
“don’t ever do THIS in a PowerPoint!” any more.
I hate the Monzo one most.
I used to get the heating device one endlessly.
£12 A MONTH!
that is a lot, I wonder what percentage of people pay?

"I get that shithead Mormon piano teaching guy."
Is that the hyper shouty one who sounds like he's off his face on coke, bashing the piano and claiming that traditional piano teaching is shit and he can make you into a concert pianist in about 15 seconds per day for a few months? Twat.

I get the revolutionary heating device designed by a clever student also. That energy companies "don't want people to know" about. The nationality of the student changes but they are always male.

namechangetheworld · 28/04/2025 16:49

Oh, and the one with the guy fixing his car with parts sourced from Ebay. God help me.

rumred · 28/04/2025 16:48

I use duck duck go to avoid ads. It works for most but not all YouTube videos.

namechangetheworld · 28/04/2025 16:47

Nothing is as grating as those hideously 'quirky' Numan weight loss ads with the woman with the bloody goldfish.

Yes you should be 'shamed' Ava, not for using weight loss medication but for being that fucking irritating.

Dangermoo · 28/04/2025 16:45

You're getting a service for free. I'm not,I pay 12 quid a month for the premium service. It's no good you complaining about excessive ads when you don't want to put your hand in your pocket and be ad free. You have a choice.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/04/2025 16:37

Knight Frank are the worst. Drony voice which is certainly AI ( AS) as it has the wrong inflection, and a Meghan lookalike sprinkling flowers on her carrots ( do they think that will be popular?). IDont want to buy or sell my house and it I did I’d rather use anyone but KF now.

Plus bloody PANTENE🥵

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 28/04/2025 16:36

I don’t watch YouTube for that reason. It’s unwatchable.

scalt · 28/04/2025 16:33

The one about the revolutionary heating device, designed by a clever student. I once decided to watch it to do my own research on it: and in the three minutes of waffle, not once was the name of the product mentioned! I think it was a scam, marketed under several different names.

restbite · 28/04/2025 15:59

Talking of ads, has anyone seen that disgusting ad for Lynx Lower Body Spray? I could not believe my eyes, there is a man sniffing another man's cock and a woman sniffing a blokes arse😡 I mean you do not need to spray your nether regions with spray, but have a bloody shower and who goes around sniffing others bits? we are not animals ffs

there is no sense of decency and decorum anymore

Saladleaves17 · 28/04/2025 15:50

I was thinking about this the other day. I just seem to get loads of what I call scam adverts. Americans advertising the latest gadget or pills that will reverse age. I’m convinced most are complete scams, they can’t be genuine. I can’t tell you the last time I saw an advert for a normal product - like Nike or Robinsons squash.

wildfellhall · 28/04/2025 15:47

Wow I’ve never been vetted by mumsnet before - I’m only moaning about YouTube ads! 😂

wildfellhall · 28/04/2025 15:46

Oh the piano lesson guy! I don’t get those now thank God! I am now getting “buy crypto”ads all the time when I’m not getting shi**ing Monzo me “you’re a lifesaver” 🤯.
Why don’t the advertisers realize how this doesn’t work? I guess if they get a few people they don’t care?

TheFirstFemalePope · 28/04/2025 15:30

I get that shithead Mormon piano teaching guy. YouTube is just AdTube now. Mind, so is the rest of the internet. Adverts, extended adverts (ie influencers) and goad-speech.

gldd · 28/04/2025 15:18

You can probably install an ad blocker in less than a minute...

i've tried several ad blockers, they don't work on video ads

latetothefisting · 28/04/2025 15:26

I get grammarly every single time
tbh I write a lot for work and for myself so it could potentially be useful but the adverts are so utterly annoying (the underwater one 🤬🤬🤬) I'd rather cut my nose off to spite my face than ever consider using it.

Hopefully chatgpt will render it superfluous!

Dotjones · 28/04/2025 15:25

No wonder a lot of people resort to software like 4K Video Downloader to just download a copy to their laptop and watch it ad-free. Technically against their terms of use of course but, then again, a lot of Youtube's content can be accessed without even logging in.

404ErrorCode · 28/04/2025 15:21

Of course they are trying to annoy you into paying.

Quite cheeky when they don’t even create/pay for any of the content, as the price doesn’t justify it.

restbite · 28/04/2025 15:21

That bloody Lucozade one with the godawful song on it😡
