Only interested in perspectives if you think something happens after death not the perspectives where people think it is just the end.

You get to choose - you can either come back to earth as a typical cat, shit in people's gardens, knock stuff off shelves, be generally grumpy and plot to take over the world... or you come back as spaniel, you'll be a bit stupid and will eat some really rank stuff when you're out walking but you'll be so bouncy and happy, your ears will flapping in the wind and you'll be absolutely living your best life.

Pretty sure that's what happens. (I'll go for the spaniel option).

Hocuspocushyperfocus · 24/04/2025 23:28

I like to think (hope?) it's similar to the moment before you fall asleep, do you know when you run through the days events or a memory or you recall a moment? And then you don't remember anything? I hope it's like that; I also like to think our conscious goes "back" to a collective, back to where ever we existed before we arrived. I sometimes wonder when I get that feeling of déjà vu or my hairs on the back of my arm stick up I do wonder if it's because I've lived before ?

Arancia · 24/04/2025 23:12

I'm religious, so I believe we will all stand in front of God in the hereafter, and be held accountable for all the shit we thought we'd get away with in this life. I believe none of us will get away with the evils and sins we commit in this life, unless we have repented them sincerely before we leave this Earth.

Reincarnation

HouseCaptain · 24/04/2025 23:03

If there was another life - what would sustain us? How would we compete for space and resources? Or would be just be floating benignly in an ever expanding cloud of righteousness?

Stressed2025 · 24/04/2025 23:03

Asking for opinions but only certain ones.... What's the point?
You stop breathing, you die, end of. It's just biology

MillicentMaybe · 24/04/2025 23:00

So tell me this ~ assume you’re happily married and are widowed. After a time you wed again and are happy. You pop your clogs and husband no. 1 is waiting for you. What happens to poor no. 2 husband when he dies? Is he a spare wheel for all eternity?

sequin2000 · 24/04/2025 22:55

What about an afterlife of karma where you get back everything you have given to others whilst alive? The same kindness, compassion, charity etc. you gave out is repaid (or not). Some say we are now in the afterlife in the Catholic idea of purgatory and being given another chance to get it right.

HouseCaptain · 24/04/2025 22:51

Just nothing at all would be better than living.

And thats still the best answer ive heard to this question so its mine too

helpfulperson · 24/04/2025 22:47

Babylon 5, a sci fi show, talks about the concept of 'star stuff' which i've always liked.

In summary atoms continue to exist. So the atoms from your decaying body will continue to be part of the universe. And may end up anywhere in it.

BottomPinchingAunt · 24/04/2025 22:46

I think a loved one comes for you and takes your spirit away with them. I believe you see those you have loved and lost - animals too - and God is waiting to hold you in his arms. I feel you will be surrounded with peace and calm.
Many people who have had near death experiences or died and been brought back say that's what they saw/felt.

motherhen27 · 24/04/2025 22:42

I like to picture a reunion with loved ones who’ve gone before. And I’d like to think I will see those who come after when they arrive at wherever or wherever the afterlife is. But equally the thought of existing forever is a bit scary. Maybe it’s something we can dip in and out of for special occasions and the rest of the time it’s just like being in a lovely dream?
I liked the idea of the Lovely Bones (although a horrific scenario) where she was able to watch her family until she was ready to go ‘on’ and that each person has a heaven that is personal and unique to them.
Gosh it really is quite mind blowing and overwhelming to think about.
Ultimately I think the most realistic outcome is that it does just go back to how it was before we were born. No consciousness, no awareness. But then again our energy didn’t exist before we were born and it would be nice to think it doesn’t die completely with us. Maybe it moves on somehow and somewhere else.

Fuck knows, to be honest.

CarpeVitam · 24/04/2025 22:40

Nothing ‘happens’.

We just cease.

I liken it to a ‘nothingness’ - the same as before we were conceived / born.

Chiseltip · 24/04/2025 22:39

The same.thing that happened before you were born.

SabrinaThwaite · 24/04/2025 22:35

We get to do it all again.

I’d like to be a tardigrade next time please.

Rosieposy89 · 24/04/2025 22:26

I believe in something after death. It feels too inconsequential to think this is it. I'm not sure what that something is. My family have had signs from loved ones who have died which is comforting

Itchybritches · 24/04/2025 22:25

I’ve had a sense of heaven ingrained in me due to a strict catholic childhood, and I would love it to be true. I’ve had a couple of weird experiences of being aware when people close to me have died and there’s no way I could have known it, but all I can say is that I saw/felt them pass. Similarly an inexplicable experience when I was dangerously ill.
What I’m inclined to believe is that we return to some sort of energy source where we all connect - it’s hard to explain. So we are all with our loved ones, but not in the sense that we are able to be together as people, but our energy is all wrapped up together and being in this world was just an experience.
I realise that probably sounds very weird.

ZenNudist · 24/04/2025 22:21

There's a big wide universe out there and many extra dimensions and planes of being. It's pretty narrow thinking to believe thus is all their is.

I believe we go to be with God if that is what we want and if we don't seek unification with the ineffable divine then who knows what happens. I do think that we might be cast into a darkness of our own making.

Hopefully ousouls s go whizzing around the universe. I'm pretty positive that our souls continue on and we will be at peace.

VirgosNeedGoals · 24/04/2025 22:21

Nobody knows and there is only one way we will all eventually find out. My perception of the afterlife is very childlike and hasn't changed much at all over the last 40 years. Not lemonade rivers or marshmallows growing on trees, but being together with all our relatives and pets and being happy and free of pain. I'm grateful for truly believing this, it keeps me warm.

maybeuptight · 24/04/2025 22:21

I wonder if there's a collective consciousness that we rejoin after death. And then maybe back into a body if there's something important to learn or experience.

catstudies · 24/04/2025 22:19

What about you, Op?

KylieKangaroo · 24/04/2025 22:17

I'd like a big brother style here are your best bits, then some time with loved ones who've passed before then lights out forever that would be fine with me!

cornflourblue · 24/04/2025 22:16

I'm terrified it's reincarnation as someone awful...
