Child's friend parent on sexual offender register

springisspringing1 · 24/04/2025 13:57

I live in a smallish town - only one primary school and only one class per year. My DC is in reception. One of the children's fathers was found guilty of looking at child sex photographs and online grooming of a young teen girl. He is on the sexual offender register. The mother has retained a close relationship with the father (they may still be together - I don't know her well enough). We have kids' birthday parties all the time and eg when she hosts one, the father is likely to be there. I don't want my children near this man. I just don't. I think she's keen for him to be reintegrated into the (quite small) community. AIBU is, I suppose, to make it clear I don't want him to bring their child to my child's party? (I will just make an excuse for their party). Also - is this unfair on my child's friend (who is obviously only 4 too). This is not something that is going to go away -- and want to work out how to manage it now. Please be kind - I absolutely know it is not the mother or the child's fault.

I genuinely think people here are mad if theyre happy to have their kids in the same room as a known child sex offender. I appreciate there will be unknown child offenders in rooms with them but if you know, you can stop them being around them

Poor kid. Four years old. "Mummy, why is everyone else in my class invited to Spring minor's party, but not me?"
"Mummy, we invited everyone to my party, so why is no-one coming?"

If her mother cares then she can make clear to everyone that the sex offender will not be at parties and allow parents who want to stay, to stay. She can exclusively drop off/stay at others parties. It isnt on other parents to allow a sex offender near their kid to make another child feel better abput that sex offender, father or not

I can’t honestly imagine a time where he would be able to chat to your child at a party. Firstly at parties the kids are all off playing. Secondly you will be there and thirdly I don’t think I’ve ever seen any parents chat to children who aren’t there own at parties, surely you would be able to interject if you did see him trying to engage in conversation and tell him not to talk to your child. Or redirect your child to speak to you and send them off to join in. He’s not going to be able to start grooming your child at a 2 hour party while you are there watching his every move is he really? Whilst I wouldn’t want him near my kid you’re being hysterical because he won’t be able to be near your kid

He shouldn’t want to be going to frickin kids parties! He’s lost that entitlement in my eyes.

Flup68 · 30/11/2025 20:12

saraclara · 24/04/2025 14:03

I'm sorry but that's an overreaction.

He did an awful thing, but your child is not at risk from him because he won't be alone with him.

I wouldn’t want him anywhere near me or any kids of mine either

Flup68 · 30/11/2025 20:10

Gymmum82 · 24/04/2025 14:03

Obviously your child will never go to play dates at their house. But you can’t dictate who can bring the child to your child’s parties. All you can do is exclude the child. Which would be unfair

I think she has every right to say to the mother that she doesn’t want the father to bring the child to their home

Coffeetime25 · 16/08/2025 23:33

Audiprettier · 29/04/2025 10:37

Never EVER met a woman who stood up for a paedophile, so...
YAWN!!

read the post the childs own mother is staying with this man and giving this man access to his own child she obv supporting this thing and allowing him to possibly groom n harm his own child while the kids mother turns blind eye

Coffeetime25 · 16/08/2025 23:30

so it ok for the kid to live with her father who is a peado the mum is there no harm done but not ok for this man to interact with any your kid my concern would be his own child also the mother doesn't sound great letting her kid interact with this man knowing what he is

Praying4Peace · 24/04/2025 14:03

Yabu
Not sure why you don't want child's dad bringing them to your child's party?
He won't ever be alone with your child.
Your child isn't at risk so for the sake of everyone's wellbeing, you need to support opportunities to allow man to be reintegrated, without putting anymore at risk

Absolute nonsense.

Reintegration for what?

ClareBlue · 16/08/2025 22:48

At least you know about this man and can make sure he is never alone with your child. It's the other 20 who have not been caught yet that are your real problem.

DontUseMySkipLol · 15/08/2025 22:37

data protection coppers wont tell you anything about him regarding his conditions

Hadenough2021 · 06/05/2025 13:35

Sorry but your responsibility is to your children not the other child. It may well be unfair and difficult for the other child but that isn’t your problem. No different to you being able to afford lots of toys for your children and another family not being able to afford any toys. It sucks but it is what it is and life isn’t fair.

Where are these parties held? Because you absolutely get to dictate who enters your home and a pedophile would not be entering mine. Because that’s what he is. And again someone on the sex offenders list shouldn’t be walking into soft play or any other children’s entertainment place!

All you can do is be honest with the mum, it’s a shitty situation for her and the child but she will have known all of that when she opted to stick by him/continue a relationship.

qandatime · 30/04/2025 17:47

I keep thinking about this thread for some reason and the more I think on it the more disgusted I feel!
Why the flying fuck is a pedophile even in the position where he might rock up at a party full of 5 year old kids?!?
But even worse than that why is his own son being put at such a risk.. If the police and social services are aware you are a convicted nonce, why are you allowed access to your child.
And why when you realise that the mother of this little boy is a brainless bitch is she allowed to keep him, he really doesn’t stand a chance and I bet growing up a party invite is going to be the least of his problems.
Absolutely disgusted that this sort of stuff is allowed to happen!

BlondiePortz · 30/04/2025 00:49

You can't dictate what other people do in their house unless i am reading what you said wrong

Spinachpastapicker · 30/04/2025 00:35

WellManneredFrivolity · 25/04/2025 21:35

How did you find out about him? Was it common knowledge because it’s a small town? I only ask out of curiosity because I don’t know where you get the information

If you read down OP’s posts, she says in one of her updates it was reported in the local paper.

Spinachpastapicker · 30/04/2025 00:21

croydon15 · 25/04/2025 18:41

If the child is invited to your party l would speak to the mother and asked her to bring the child, l am sure they must be ways of asking without saying l don't want the father to be there i.e ladies only

Why not say “I don’t want the paedo near my house”. Just say it. It’s the reality. The wife of paedo Dad needs to be very clear that even if she has “forgiven” him, that op and society haven’t.

Spinachpastapicker · 30/04/2025 00:07

SwingTheMonkey · 25/04/2025 11:56

Click on ‘quote history’ and you’ll see the ‘is your husband on the same page’ comment was to OP. The ‘report to what body’ was a question to @neverbeenskiing when she said she’d known a convicted paedophile complain that he’d not been able to join the PTA. I can see why the pp questioned your responses to these posts, they were very odd.

Thanks @SwingTheMonkeySmile her posts were very odd and she mixed up who the replies were to.

The amount of people supporting the Paedo, is quite shocking to me!

There will be many paedos on this site, getting kicks from reading about children or starting threads to get stories and anecdotes from parents to satisfy their various sick fetishes. Several threads about nappies, poo, first menstruation etc have been deleted in the past due to this.

So it should come as no surprise that some would take the chance on a thread like this to try to persuade parents reading that it’s ok to have them at parties as long as they (the parents) “ supervise their own kids”. Yeah right, sure that’s safe, Not.

Spinachpastapicker · 29/04/2025 18:47

Gymmum82 · 24/04/2025 17:27

I AM A FUCKING VICTIM!! I have been sexually abused as a child. I know fucking well what I’m talking about and I CERTAINLY NOT NAIVE

I’m sorry if that happened to you but it does not make you the expert on every type of paedo and their behaviour patterns or Modus Operandi.

If you’ve been abused as you claim, you wouldn’t want ANY child to be exposed ever, or lead to believe that particular Dad is “safe”, which is the impression given if he’s at a party.

So you're basically saying women don't /aren't capable of doing such heinous things because we're all poor little lambs without a mind of our own, must have been told to think that way by a man and too scared to say no etc?!
Load of shit, your attitude is disgusting as well.
Edited to say I'm aware coercive control exists etc, and it's awful, but to absolve women of ever doing anything wrong because "must be being abused" is 🙄

Edited

Ooh!

Touched a nerve?

Never2many · 29/04/2025 16:25

This
makes for interesting reading. Admittedly some of it was done in the states, but actually, sexual crimes perpetrated by women are far more common that people think.

Female sex offenders are more common than you think

Researchers say the data gives an insight into the one-dimensional stereotype of women

Well said.

The number of women who abuse children is vanishingly rare.

And comparing women who stay with abusers with abusers is wrong.

It really isn’t. Less women are sentenced for abusing children that’s true, but a lot more women abuse children as to be “vanishingly rare,”. Not just sexual abuse, but physical abuse as well. There are plenty of those out there.

My do was seriously sexually abused by his mother, was taken into care partly because of it.

And it really isn’t a case of that the woman is being abused to abuse the child.

In fact we had our own paedophile on here some years back, when a MN’er befriended lots of child modelling parents and encouraged them to share their pictures on her website, only for her to pass them on to her boyfriend for doctoring and distribution. Funnily enough when she was outed in the media she never once claimed she was any kind of victim, but instead she fled the country.

Most paedophiles in the news are men, but it’s naive to think that women aren’t capable. they absolutely are.

You cannot be confident that OPs child will never be alone with him. The only way to be confident of that is for OP to ensure her child has no contact with him whatsoever - which is what OP is proposing.

Parties, days at the park, friends houses, days out, whatever. 'oh, that's Freddy's dad calling me over, I wonder what he wants' that's all it bloody takes. He's not a stranger. He's their friends Dad. You can't expect a child to treat one parent differently to all the others, it's not possible.

I speak from experience here, as someone who was groomed, and also I have a child with a parent who was convicted of having images of children in DC's class.

Completely agree.

grooming can be so sophisticated. I would not want my child in a social context anywhere near this man. This is a boundary worth holding to

(I used to be a child protection social worker).

In fairness, that 'narrative' does have a history. To anyone who's been paying attention, the extent to which male rights activists have made a beeline for this site in recent years is very clear.

Their motivation isn't too difficult to guess: it's a site where mainly women congregate to discuss mainly issues which affect women. Not least, it's a space on the web where women organise themselves and where grass roots activism very often originates and takes place. Can't be having that, can we?

The MRAs are usually fairly obvious, and the threads that attract them like flies to a jam jar tend to be revealing of the kinds of men they are.

That's not to say that plenty of women are not more than eager to do the work of the partiarchy for it. Internalised misogyny is very real, and not all misogynists are necessarily men.

If you read my comments I'm of the opinion no way should he be anywhere near kids, and wouldn't let mine anywhere near him as wouldn't want him to be thought of as a trusted adult.
Just hate the "must be a man" narrative on here when an opinion differs.
