Sides. No. It is side dishes. See also mains (Shudder)

I made lamb at Easter. No, you cooked it.

Cooked to your liking. Well they woudn't deliberately cook it otherwise if they wanted to stay in business...

@k1233 they do go for some revolting combos!!

Biccies.

I hate the word biccies. It gives me toddler jamming pre-chewed rusks into your mouth while dribbling vibes. Urgh.

As a complete aside, what was the typo in the thread title? The word that sprung into my head would have ensured a very different thread I feel..... 😆

I hate that too. It's even worse when spelled 'bickies' <<scream>>

We say dishing up.

When will dinner be ready? Just dishing it up now...

No bowls or dishes involved.

I shout, 'Food's up!'

It's a Michelin experience eating at my house. Grin

And relax....

I'd happily eat pita in Greece. I'd just happily exist in Greece.
However, here I must remain in the Midlands of England with our shoddy pittas. To be fair they are shoddy. No supermarket pit(t)a can be filled with anything as it is like trying to fill a cobweb.

As per the other poster, please do share your recipe and if I manage to even make one then I shall forever be converted.

Do bear in mind I failed at flatbreads. I'm an enforced low carb-er 😂.

Enjoy Greece - send olives! Proper ones, not the ollives you get here 😎

To be fair, pita from shops are pretty bad anywhere in the world, not just in the UK. I'm currently travelling but will definitely post my very easy pita recipe when I'm home next week 😉I will even throw in a great recipe for a traditional Greek olive-based recipe that's to die for 😃

I hate ‘rank’. I know it’s an expression of disgust but can’t you use other words.

PremiumD · 25/04/2025 03:42

I saw an influencer say ‘nngnngnngnng’ about food recently.

Cheeky

Foodie

k1233 · 25/04/2025 03:19

I hate with a passion nom nom.

What really grinds my gears is watching a recipe video and people having abysmal skills for basics such as hand mixing in a bowl, using multiple unnecessary containers and then not scraping them out properly. The worst is the obsession with using an ice cream scoop for biscuits, muffins and cake batters. Then the American abominations where made from scratch equals opening various pre made packages, placing together in an alfoil tray and putting a revolting concoction in the oven.

echt · 25/04/2025 02:21

Brush-etta.

It's Brusk-etta.

Ya moron.

RobintheNun · 25/04/2025 02:17

Definitely ’meal’. The worst.
I once went to a very fancy restaurant that served ‘pea foam’.
Also hate ‘dessert’ and I worry about ‘hotpot’
And ‘vino’. Fuck off.

Ohgodohgod · 25/04/2025 02:03

This is totally irrational and I’m not expecting any support but I hate the expression ‘sea food’. Don’t know why, just sets my teeth on edge.

Londog · 25/04/2025 01:53

Snotty egg .. makes me heave 😩 🤮

Chicken is something that can be pan fried, deep fried or even air fried. If someone offered me “fried chicken” my assumption would be that it was deep fried so actually pan fried would be a useful description.

I'll pan fry chicken if I've bashed a breast flat with a rolling pin and marinated it in something.

That's my usual go to actually unless it's going to be a curry.

I agree fried chicken leans towards floured and deep fried.

TulaOfDarkWater · 25/04/2025 01:36

Sleepinggreyhounds · 25/04/2025 00:32

You see I don’t buy this. The kind of things that are typically “pan fried” are fish like trout, salmon etc. or steak which would surely only be deep fried in some weird elitist Glasgow chippy with a side of mars bar. And also my mum did her deep frying in the chip pan. If she had ever lost her mind and added a fillet of chalk stream rainbow trout to her usual king Edwards it would still have been pan fried so it’s not even a suitably specific description. Can’t believe I’m so exercised about this!🤣

Exactly 😎My nerves just can't handle any more "pitta"!

Well, I grew up baking pita at home, so I never choose my travel destinations based on their supermarket choice of pita - that's just a massive downgrade 😇 But my next trip so happens to be to Greece, where they pronounce pita correctly, of course😍

The only extra T I want is an extra cup of chamomile tea 🤓

And relax....

My DH likes to watch MasterChef and they come up with such ridiculous names for things like chocolate Soil.
It doesn't really bother me but it makes me laugh when I see the phrase Freshly Cut sandwiches , like they might have been made for hours / days/ weeks but they've only just been cut!
And packets of apples in the supermarket which say "Ideal for eating". As opposed to what? What else would you do with an apple?

When I was in in A&E once very embarrassed with a 'lost' tampon, the receptionist breezily announced we've got a bloke in with an apple stuck up his bum so don't worry.

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 25/04/2025 00:50

Oh, and those poncy menus which don’t actually tell you what the dish is, just lists a couple of ingredients.

”Trout, miso, rhubarb”

2JFDIYOLO · 25/04/2025 00:42

Pizza pronounced 'Pitsa'. It's PEETSA.

Chorizo pronounced 'Choritso'. It's CHOREETHO. Spanish.

Herb pronounced 'Urrrrrrrrrrb', Americans, NO.

I am SO ANGRY now, it's nearly 1.00am and I probably WON'T SLEEP and I hope you're all satisfied.

Stardust75 · 25/04/2025 00:40

'Grazing' table/ boards, sounds very farm yard! Plus the thought of having other people 'grazing ' off said tables and boards 🤮🤮. Also 'eateries'. I don't know why, it just sets my teeth on edge.

2JFDIYOLO · 25/04/2025 00:37

Dessert. It's pudding. Dessert means fruit.

Sweet. It's still pudding.

PUDDING.

Pud is acceptable.

Adjectives on menus. Freshly picked locally sourced silken moist mouth watering aaaaaarg.

A deep fat fryer

Set up. Jelly sets, it doesn't set up.
Fry off. Just fry.
Roasted (it's 'roast chicken', 'roast beef').

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 25/04/2025 00:12

“Elevated” food
”My style as a chef is good food cooked well”
Espuma. I just call it “flob”
a “slap-up meal”

also hate “dirty” food but equally “clean eating”

I watch a lot of food IG and YouTube and I have a long list of hated food phrases.

In no particular order....

'Aromats' for any herbs, spices, garlic - anything that smells, basically.

'Smashed' or worse 'smooshed'

'Bowl', as in 'Sesame, orange and broccoli rice bowl' - the bowl's the thing it comes in not part of the dish you w*nker

'Marry me' dishes - oh fuck off

And worst of the worst - 'food lube'. That's right, there are some utter nobs - usually gen Z food infuencer wannabes - who call oil 'food lube'. As in 'just add a bit of food lube if it needs it', delivered as gross, winking, double-entendre.

Yuck.

Yeah these are all terrible but I’m really upset with you for introducing me to ‘food line’ as a concept because that’s really terrible.

I dislike anything to do with talking about food. I don't like people making a fuss about food either. Just shut up and eat it. When I used to visit the parents in law at Christmas I'd hate the way they'd sit discussing every aspect of the Christmas lunch in minute detail "Ooo the turkey's lovely and moist and the potatoes are so crispy. Remember in 1972 when you dropped a potato and the dog ate it? Or was it 1974? 🤔" That kind of thing.

I would love your in laws.really jealous of you tbh.
