Sides. No. It is side dishes. See also mains (Shudder)

I made lamb at Easter. No, you cooked it.

Cooked to your liking. Well they woudn't deliberately cook it otherwise if they wanted to stay in business...

I don't want anything served on a chaise longue of flaky pastry, especially when they can't spell chaise longue!

Iammatrix · 24/04/2025 12:10

I really hate the word ‘portion’. It actually does make me squirm!

The word “mesclun” makes my bile rise and my sphincter clench.

Had to google that as I’d never heard of it. So it’s a posh green salad from Provence.

Weirdwalk · 24/04/2025 12:07

Full fat Coke
Lush
Fry off
Chuck, bung and throw

and worst of all…nom fucking nom

I don’t much like rendered either (dead bodies)
But worst of all “what are we having for dinner” from my DH/ DC…

DwarfBeans · 24/04/2025 11:59

Full fat coke really annoys me. I’ve tried asking every which way I can for coke original but they always say ‘oh full fat coke’ Every. Single. Time.

Sleepinggreyhounds · 24/04/2025 11:59

Pan-fried. What else would you fry it in?

MattCauthon · 24/04/2025 11:57

Lush.

If someone reers to any sort of food as "lush" I'm out the door. It has severely teseted my friendship with one of my oldest and dearest friends - every time she says it a tiny bit of my love for her dies.

I can’t stand the affectation on lots of meal suggestion posts on here - everything being served with ‘crusty bread’, I don’t know why but it really makes me cringe.

How do you feel about lashings of butter !

SleepingisanArt · 24/04/2025 11:56

We refer to sides and mains in the restaurant as its quicker when communicating ('mains away table 2'). Plate up is also a restaurant term which thanks to all the TV chefs has made its way into every day use. As long term restaurant owners (and working in not just owning) we use all sorts of terms at home which come from being in the industry.....

But I really hate 'dirty' as it's not a good association with food!

OlivePeer · 24/04/2025 11:55

Chuck or bung.

Heronwatcher · 24/04/2025 11:55

Heritage carrots, it’s a carrot not a grandfather clock
Muddled anything
Burnt anything (if I wanted burnt food I’d let the DC cook for me thanks)
Nose to tail- you’re not eating pig hairs or feathers, or in fact the actual nose or tail are you?

CherryRipe1 · 24/04/2025 11:55

Cook off and fry off, it's cook and fry. Also every ingredient described as beautiful, as opposed to ugly? Hand finished crisps. Sounds disgusting. Smashed avocado and now smash burgers. Piss off.

KimberleyClark · 24/04/2025 11:47

Pulled.

LadyDanburysHat · 24/04/2025 11:44

Loaded is not so bad, but why would I want dirty food. I hate that so much.

Words · 24/04/2025 11:43

Oh yes, me too. Also dirty, or loaded anything.

Plate up for no other reason that it sounds poncy.

Words · 24/04/2025 11:33

*squirm

Not a cooking term but people who call whole milk "fat milk" or classic Cola " fat coke" in cafes/restaurants. Doesn't make it sound appealing
