AIBU to cancel interview due to COVID?

Sexisthairdressers · 24/04/2025 07:21

I have a job interview this morning but have COVID. Didn't sleep. Work up feeling crap and did a test. Just emailed to cancel. Feel terrible that it's last minute and really want the job. Have asked to reschedule. Did I do the right thing? AIBU? For info, it was a 4 hour interview (tests etc then face to face interview - just don't think I could have got through it - quite apart from not wanting to infect everyone).

What an earth are you talking about? Please, provide me with some evidence of this as I’d love to see.

FWIW my 66yo dad has Parkinson’s.

I thought you were taking yourself out.

I'm sure you can figure it out yourself, as you are such a scathing expert talking down to all of us "bedwetters".

Wow, are you under-informed. The wave of early-onset Parkinson's alone that is going to emerge from this pandemic in the coming years should wipe the smug of your face in no time.

Runny nose and sniffles are the symptoms for the vast majority of people with Covid.

Yes, anyone still terrified of Covid is a bedwetter. Sorry that hurts your feelings but I’d suggest you don’t take everything you read on the internet so personally.

  • Lockdowns were fudging awful and unnecessary
  • Covid is not a serious illness for 99% of people.
  • Most people are choosing to live their lives without fear of a virus we now know - despite people’s anecdotal evidence - causes a bad cold for most people.
  • Masks don’t stop transmission and you’re a fool if you still wear one.
  • You may think you weren’t caught up in the mass hysteria and propaganda of the early Covid days but it is clear you and others have been, otherwise you wouldn’t be so scared.
  • It’s not easy to just ‘stay home’ if you have a cold. Some people will lose their jobs, some elderly people who need social contact to avoid going insane - the list goes on. You’re in a privileged position if you can just book yourself off work for a few days to recover in bed alone.

I am bored of repeating basic stats and commonly-held knowledge so I will see myself out of this thread.

There's a middle ground between living life in fear, and ablelism and and a total lack of decency. I have no time for people like you who use the term "bedwetter". I think your attitude is despicable, as are your comments. Probably best that you're taking yourself off before you show yourself up any further.

I got a reply to my email and they have proposed another date for the interview.

I feel completely stressed out after this thread, though. Worried that they'll think I'm making it up.

Sigh.

Onwards and upwards!

That's good to hear. I hope you smash it. Try not to worry if some randoms have chosen to be spiteful.

COVID isn't just a cold. And I wouldn't want them passing it around to anyone they come into contact with.

You have to take your existing colleagues into consideration.

i often wonder in what circumstances people test

I did a test at the weekend. First one in ages. Heavy cold, loss of sense of smell etc. But tested as DH was off to visit his elderly father who has significant health needs including lung problems. I wouldn’t have tested otherwise.

I'd appointment her without further interview for her good decision making.

Haha... Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

That kind of 'edgy' first answer is so frequent on MN. Really stressed me out.

I think they lurk about looking to jump in first and see if they can influence a ridiculous take on the issue.

Azureshores · 24/04/2025 10:57

Who the HELL is still testing for covid? Where do you even get the tests?? 😂

People who have serious illnesses (there's quite a few different ones). People on Immunosuppressants. People prone to pneumonia.

You can get tests in the pharmacy

@Sexisthairdressers what if the test was negative, but you still felt rubbish??

Well it wasn't, but if it had been, I probably would cancelled anyway as I don't think I could have got through the morning! That it's COVID is probably irrelevant, actually. It's more just that I am ill.

You still have Covid tests? Why? Do you test every time you get the sniffles?

Yes, still have tests because I have a relative who is seriously ill. I test before going to see them if under the weather.

Also some of these posts are getting a little confused in their desperation to be derisive.

There is lots of derogatory talk about “hiding away” from germs; but the situation under discussion pertains to having already caught it. They aren’t hiding: they’ve got it.

Over40Overdating · 24/04/2025 11:31

@NestOfWipers the one I’m thinking starts with T and rhymes with sick, and not in inverted commas, either.

You can’t argue with the great freedom fighters and free thinkers of the internet. All self proclaimed epidemiologists and experts in individualism.

Same people who are as likely to tell you cancer treatment is a scam pushed big pharma and you just need to stop eating sugar and shove coffee up your arse like all the enlightened medical experts of facebook.

NestOfWipers · 24/04/2025 11:27

Widowerwouldyou · 24/04/2025 11:02

It’s probably a good time to stop selling them to the public in pharmacies and only test in medical facilities if it really is clinically necessary, so that people who feel like a day off work don’t have that as an excuse.

Edited

I just don't have the words

Well, not ones that wouldn't get me banned anyway

ilovesooty · 24/04/2025 11:26

Mumoftwo52 · 24/04/2025 10:04

Because we cannot always shut ourselves away from society at the smallest sign of a sniffle.

Kids have to go to school, they mix germs, they come home to parents, parents go out to work, viruses and bacteria spread. This is life. If YOU want to stay home and shut yourself away from ‘the germs’, go ahead. But you can’t seriously expect people who have to continue to earn money and go to school to stay at home because they have a runny nose.

Most people carry viruses - including Covid - and don’t show symptoms. So viruses spread even if ‘sick’ people stay home.

You're minimising by speaking of sniffles and runny noses, doubling down on your "bed wetter" comment. Why is "sick" in inverted commas?

People eligible for antivirals? I get tests from the pharmacy free of charge
My dad also tests so he doesn’t give it to me
