There wasn’t a global flood. Off the back of the last ice age, when sea levels started to rise, there many epic floods across the globe, many of which are still referenced in cultural legends and lore. But there very clearly was no global flood, with Noah and ark of animals.

I have posted references on here which show the scientific evidence for the flood.

Where did this first woman and man come from though? Is it really more far fetched to say that God made them than to say that nothing exploded and people came from grown up pond slime?

Yes, through evolution, over millions of billions years, until very recently when the modern human took an evolutionary turn away from our last primate ancestor about 7 million years ago, although as humans we are still part of the great ape family.

Animals can’t talk - fact. They are animals not humans.

Yes, you are right animals can't talk. The donkey talking was a miracle. God can do impossible things. The snake wasn't really a snake it was the devil in disguise.

Stopping an innocent child being raped wouldn’t have destroyed us - it would have saved a child.
This god seems incredibly cruel and basically only does negative things

The only way to get rid of sin completely would be to get rid of people. I don't understand all of God's ways- if I did he wouldn't be God!

I don't believe animals talk in general, I just know if two times when that happened in the Bible. Those two times are recorded because they are so unusual!

Actually Noah's ark isn't far fetched. The fossil records support the idea of a global flood. Some people in America built a life size replica of the ark, using the measurements given in the Bible, and showed that it could house all those animals.

Do you think that it is non believers who commit all the crime? Believers wouldn’t as they follow the rules.

No one keeps all of God's rules, Christians and non Christians alike. That's why God sent Jesus to die for us, which I think was the question of the original thread!

Parker231 · 24/04/2025 18:20

CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind · 24/04/2025 18:18

I don't know the answer to that. But if God intervened in every instance of sin he would have destroyed us all long ago.

To be honest they are as unlikely as each other but I realise talking animals are not something we are brought up to believe in.

Sure, if you want to believe in talking animals go ahead but I’m never going to wonder if animals really can have a conversation in English (or maybe) French. I wish they could talk though because I would like to ask my dog why she has to bark at every little noise in the garden, drives me potty (and probably the neighbours). I can’t respect that an adult believes in talking animals but I would look kindly on them if I met them in real life.

I’m not blaming god for someone using their free will to rape, if we work on the basis of free will existing.

I am blaming him for not intervening by rescuing a child who is being repeatedly raped by an abuser when they pray desperately to god for help.

Do you believe he answers some prayers? If so, why not that one? Why must that child live being repeatedly raped if god is omnipotent therefore able to intervene if he chooses to, as you believe he does with other prayers.

Although the bible references some real historical events, and real geographical locations, the bible is not a historical document, and no self respecting academic, for example, would say otherwise.

Some parts of the Bible are poetry or letters, but the gospels and much of the old testament are verifiable, historical documents.

The Bible is a historical document, it's accuracy is backed up by archaeology and other historical documents. It does tell us some things about the future, but we don't know all the details

The Bible doesn't list every single animal that exists, why would it? Presumably the animals migrated to the climates they were best suited to, or God told them where to go, just as he sent them all the the ark in the first place.

Or the bible writers didn’t know of their existence because they didn’t know about Australia or the Arctic or America? Maybe 🤷‍♀️

Why are you blaming God rather than the rapist? If everyone followed God's rules there would be no rape. But most people on this thread have said they don't want to live by God's rules.

He could help though couldn’t he? You said your self ‘god can do the impossible, he wouldn’t be god otherwise’.

Why is a talking donkey less likely to exist than God? You don't have to agree with what we believe, but it's very clear that many intelligent adults do believe these things, and we deserve to be respected, as do you.

Those are all really good things, and things that Christians would say come from God. I'm not saying you can't have peace and purpose in this life without God, but what about eternity?

Why do you need eternity? Why can’t you just enjoy the wonder of this life time, whilst trying to be the best version of yourself, as a human being?

I’m sorry you have been through so much and (genuinely) am glad that your faith brings you peace.

I cannot though at all understand respecting let alone worshipping a god who could use their omnipotence to answer the prayers of a child being raped and chooses not to, despite apparently answering other prayers. Able, but not willing. It’s an inexcusable and if such a god exists, I would be very comfortable not to worship him if he is capable of such callousness.

It explains how the fossil records supports the view that there was a world wide flood? It frequently says that it is saying what scientists have said, it is science.

It would seem he can do impossible things in the eye of some but for someone who isn’t religious, these concepts are very unrealistic.

You really need to have faith to hold such beliefs and that’s fine in general, but when they conflate with reality of the here and now and what we know of the world and how it works, people will understandably query it

Exactly, some of these things do sound impossibl. If God made the world he isn't confined by it and so he can do things that seem impossible to us. There is absolutely faith involved, but there is still plenty of undeniable evidence for the historical accuracy of the Bible.

I have no issues with different breeds of cats. As I have said many times, I do not doubt that evolution happens within species. However there is no evidence of a cat evolving into anything other than a cat.

It's not what they evolved in to, it's what they evolved from - they are continuing to evolve, but evolution is slow. They evolved from miacoid-like carnivorans, a group of early mammals that lived during the Eocene and Oligocene periods. Inconveniently for creationists it's taken around 75 million years to get to the cat as we know it, which has remained broadly the same for the last 8 or 9,000 years... But, that's only 0.012% of the time they have been evolving so far. Lets see what they've evolved in to in another 75 million years :)

Honestly, I can't answer that one. Why did God let my Mum die of cancer when she was only 55? Why am I permanently disabled and in a wheelchair after an accident I barely survived? Why is my child deaf? Bad things happen to Christians too, because we live in a fallen world. This world is temporary though, and I have an eternity of being with God, with my Mum, with me being able to walk and run and jump to look forward to.

Yes they have. You saying they haven't doesn't make it true. They don't look like the original cells. They metabolise different food sources, their genes have changed. By every possible standard they are different species. And there are multiple different versions now. People like you will tie yourselves up in knots to try to deny the evidence that disproves your beliefs.

Can you link to some evidence for this please?
