To be shocked by a transwoman guest on Jeremy Vine today asking a female caller what sex she is - and whether she’s “been tested?”

I genuinely couldn’t believe what I was hearing. A woman called in to make a point and instead of responding to her argument, the guest asked her what sex she was - and even questioned whether she’d been tested to confirm it.

I found it incredibly demeaning and unsettling. AIBU to think this kind of behaviour undermines the whole idea of respectful discussion and actually silences women?

We were ‘tested’ at birth - ie assigned a sex based on our biological presentation.

MoistVonL · 23/04/2025 16:07

Would 5 positive pregnancy tests could as sufficient 'testing', do you think?

Or is the transwoman thinking of a written exam about the precise angle of head tilt, gendered brains and one's place on the Barbie to GI Joe scale?

FFS. My sex like the sex of nearly everyone was observed and recorded at birth.

For those very few born where doubt exists, testing is available to clarify any DSDs. They will still be either female-with-a-DSD or male-with-a-DSD.

Disingenuous bullshit from the transwoman.

Lovelysummerdays · 23/04/2025 10:23

Isn’t that just thevTRA playbook though? Apparently no one can tell what sex they are so will all have to undergo embarrassing genital checks. The reality is you are these you these are observed at birth except perhaps in a tiny minority of sex disorder cases.

The answer is surely the law has clarified what is meant by biological women. Rinse and repeat. I think we need to stop engaging with the ludicrous statements, you can’t argue with crazy.

The reality is you are these you these are observed at birth

I don't understand this. What does You are these you these are mean?

Your friend is male.

Male genetically, but clearly she didn't go through either male puberty or male socialisation. Those are the key things that lead us to needing separate facilities for males and females at times when we are vulnerable and need privacy. I'd have no issue whatever with someone with Swyer Syndrome (if that's what this is) using women's facilities. I do have an issue with people like Caster Semenya competing in women's sports because they did go through male puberty, even though they were registered female at birth.

I found it incredibly demeaning

the double think is beyond belief. Exactly OP, and now how do you think trans people feel when subjected to exactly the same except in every aspect of public life

Which only arises because they expect people to ignore the evidence of their own eyes and treat them as if they belong to the opposite of their actual sex. Nobody who supports gender ideology ever actually explains why it's OK to say 'I identify as a woman/man' but not to say 'I identify as having X disability' when you haven't, or 'I identify as Black British' when you're very clearly not Black, or 'I identify as a toddler' when you're also quite obviously an adult.

MidnightPatrol · 23/04/2025 15:51

Tested?

I can show you the children I birthed, will that do?

WitchesofPainswick · 23/04/2025 10:16

Well yes I passed a test called having periods and giving birth. Not sure why it's a bad question: it's a silly question

It's a bad question because as the OP says it's not engaging with the question asked.
It goes off topic.
It turns the focus immediately on the questioner.

Sounds highly toxic to me.

NotSafeInTaxis · 23/04/2025 14:33

Your friend is male.

There are a very small number of people with a DSD who have XY chromosomes but are medically classified as female. It’s very rare and really nothing to do with transgender issues.
Obviously people with various DSDs will indeed have been tested as to which sex they are, unlike the vast majority where there’s no ambiguity and no test needed.

MrsFrumble · 23/04/2025 15:37

I would have been able to answer “yes, actually!” as my mum had amniocentesis when she was pregnant with me due to a high risk for rhesus incompatibility which nearly killed my older brother.

Well, those are just photos. I bet they look quite different in the flesh, especially Plastic because when you Google them they look much less female in the non carefully selected photo.

IMO transmen always pass better because it's easier to hide a female musculoskeletal system under excess muscle build up and a beard, but they will still look a bit not quite right as a man eg they are only 5ft 4inches and have wider curved hips.

As always the give away is the walk.

Alucard55 · 23/04/2025 15:23

I saw this too and was shouting at the TV. I'm so pissed off with how the mainstream media is covering this. Every news show has a biological man going on about feeling terrified yet in the next breath saying that they will continue to use women's single sex spaces. The female panelist (Sara?) was gibbering on about men and their hurty feelings also completely missing the whole point. One caller tried her best to argue the point from a female point of view. I wish GMB/Jeremy Vine would get Helen Joyce on so she could shut this nonsense down with facts.

And we also know that filters do great work.

And that it is more likely that a female person will correctly sex the male person.

Feelingleftoutagain · 23/04/2025 15:03

Standard trans play, they claim they are 'women' but attack women verbally given half a chance

I don’t know why they do that. We all know in reality the person on the left will use the ladies, the person on the right, the gents, and most will be nonthewiser.

GustyBaloo · 23/04/2025 15:00

They being the bearded person in this scenario.

Quite simply - men would think phwoar. Women would question whether they're in the correct bathroom, understand when told yes.

ImConfusedDotComHelp · 23/04/2025 14:55

Helleofabore · 23/04/2025 14:25

The point being what?

That a male person with a philosophical belief that doesn't reflect material reality is asked questions about their sex for issues where sex matters?

There really is not comparison to be made here unless you somehow believe that a male person's philosophical belief about themselves should be treated as material reality regardless of whether it is materially real or not.

Indeed should a male persons philosophical belief trump people with biological fact? What gives him the entitlement to tell others he's something he obviously, factually isn't. Stop pandering to these people

Whatafustercluck · 23/04/2025 14:43

GingerLiberalFeminist · 23/04/2025 14:32

Surely the answer should be "yes, my sex was confirmed at birth and has not changed". All babies are "tested" that way.

And I've not met a transwoman who could pass for a woman yet, I bet I'm not alone there.

SaveMeFromHumanity · 23/04/2025 14:41

There hasn't ever been 'respectful discussion' around any of it, OP.

So many women have assumed that this is a movement driven by gentle transwomen - after all, we know what women are generally like, and they call themselves women so...

And it's why so many have been against the actual women campaigning and fighting for women's rights and not being kind towards or protecting our vulnerable trans sisters...

Because this is the reality. And it's what many of us have known for years.

It's a movement mainly driven by angry, violent, misogynistic men and the fact it has taken this long to get to this point is appalling.

But they really are showing their true colours to everyone now.

And everyone can now see that the Emperor is walking round naked.

GustyBaloo · 23/04/2025 14:40

Would you like to see my meno clots? Ask paramedics that were sent last week worried I might need a transfusion. Ask the phlebotomist that took my blood relating to my hormonal haemorrhaging.

I'll happily swap all that shit!

Fucking wise up guys, being a woman isn't exactly a walk in the park in a nice frock and heels.

ScottishEggs · 23/04/2025 14:39

Brocsacoille · 23/04/2025 10:22

Exactly. Being female is obvious to 99% of the population. In fact include the animal kingdom in that too, my dog has no trouble recognising male or female…across species.

Stupid questions should receive the obvious answers, we don’t need to pander to people who set out to be deliberately obtuse.

Very true. We have had both a dog and a cat who had been abused by men who never got over their fear of men. Maybe they should have asked the random men they came across how they identified before running off and/or hiding under sofas.

FriNightBlues · 23/04/2025 14:37

Somebody on the show clearly needs to be tested for something…

Livpool · 23/04/2025 14:34

Well I gave birth after conceiving my son and carrying him in my uterus for 9 months. So I think I qualify as a ‘real female’

NotSafeInTaxis · 23/04/2025 14:33

Seventree · 23/04/2025 10:40

It's a pretty weak argument but I guess there's some potential truth in it. I had a friend at uni who had presented biologically female from birth. After suffering from lots of pain and discomfort she ended up finding out she had some kind of chromosomal condition that meant she was biologically XY, despite having a vagina, growing breasts and being the average build for a woman.

In her case I'd say she's still a woman though... just with a rare biological condition. Completely different to someone who has gone through male puberty and has a penis so not really relevant in the trans debate 🤷‍♀️

Your friend is male.
