I really feel gender ideology is a cult, that has totally warped some peoples minds. It brings so many problems to society I’m not sure it’s sustainable. It damages the health of young people, shortens their lives and often rips families apart. At what point do we say no, this is not healthy, it’s incredibly antisocial to expect everyone else to pretend you are the opposite sex when they can see you aren’t….for the good of society let’s stop this madness. Gender dysphoria exists yes but I don’t think we’re treating it in the best way. We don’t affirm that an anorexic patient is indeed too fat so why do we affirm people who think they are the opposite sex?

Hi, ultimately my feeling is that whatever someone wants to do with their body is up to them. I appreciate there are differing views on this and respect your view. My concern is that there are people out there, trans people, who by a small minority are just going to have their lives made hellish. And that I am sad about.

Well they should be careful what they wish for really - if they do have their lives made hellish, then they will get a real taste of what it’s like to be a woman.

I think Trans people have been around for ever. The first operation for a trans person in Europe was in the 1930s … the idea that I would be so unhappy in my body that I have to undergo surgery is so drastic. My feeling is that, if someone is that unhappy that they will undergo years of therapy, drugs, then surgery … I mean it’s not an overnight jobbie… then they really are unhappy in their current body & after all that to be subject to abuse… I mean, just let them be in their new body. But, I respect that others have different views.

This!!!

Never ONCE have I been bothered by a transperson in my real life in any capacity.

The vitriol shown towards trans people on here is sickening.

Well… all the people who don’t want to reproduce or can’t… is that our definition of the primary function of a male/ women? If we believe this, how does this impact all of those who can’t / don’t want to reproduce, incl our friends in LGBTQ+ community as much as hetero’s?

Come off it. I couldn't reproduce. I have PCOS. Despite the rather obvious fact that, in order to have PCOS, you must have functional ovaries and thus be female, the trans movement spent several years teaching that infertile women are not properly female. My grandparents' generation used to quietly say women with no children were "not real women" ... forgive me if I don't see that as a view worthy of respect.

It's quite staggering how backward the trans movement is. It appears to believe gender stereotypes are determinative of sex, to the point where boys who like sparkly dresses must really be girls and rambunctious girls must really be boys. Why the fuck would you want to align yourself with such a viciously restrictive ideology?

The genderist belief system treats same-sex attraction as an aberration, advocating 'sex change' for gay men and lesbians. You'll be aware that this is legally enforced on gay people in oppressive cultures like Iran? Do you really see this as desirable?

And it's LGB. No further letters or plus signs needed.

@PandyMoanyMum

Well that’s all very interesting if you’re doing a PhD on the genetics of sex but none of this applies to the vast majority of men who “feel” like they’re women or who have Autogynephila or other fetish. And no, we don’t have to respect people’s right to tell us who they are if they cannot respect our safety, dignity and existence.

Just because Lia Thomas tells us he is a woman, therefore be allowed a completely unfair advantage over his competitors, we absolutely do not need to respect that. Ditto Isla Bryson, Lexi Secker, Zara Jade or any of the other two-thirds of all TW prisoners who are sex offenders. Is anyone really so blinkered they cannot see what is going on here!

I read this from Rebecca Helm, Biology Professor. It’s made me question things. I’d be interested in other biologists point of view because this makes it more complex.
“If you know a bit about biology you will probably say that biological sex is caused by chromosomes, XX and you’re female, XY and you’re male. This is “chromosomal sex” but is it “biological sex”? Well…
Turns out there is only ONE GENE on the Y chromosome that really matters to sex. It’s called the SRY gene. During human embryonic development the SRY protein turns on male-associated genes. Having an SRY gene makes you “genetically male”. But is this “biological sex”?
Sometimes that SRY gene pops off the Y chromosome and over to an X chromosome. Surprise! So now you’ve got an X with an SRY and a Y without an SRY. What does this mean?
A Y with no SRY means physically you’re female, chromosomally you’re male (XY) and genetically you’re female (no SRY). An X with an SRY means you’re physically male, chromsomally female (XX) and genetically male (SRY). But biological sex is simple! There must be another answer…
Sex-related genes ultimately turn on hormones in specifics areas on the body, and reception of those hormones by cells throughout the body. Is this the root of “biological sex”??
“Hormonal male” means you produce ‘normal’ levels of male-associated hormones. Except some percentage of females will have higher levels of ‘male’ hormones than some percentage of males. Ditto ditto ‘female’ hormones. And…
…if you’re developing, your body may not produce enough hormones for your genetic sex. Leading you to be genetically male or female, chromosomally male or female, hormonally non-binary, and physically non-binary. Well, except cells have something to say about this…
Maybe cells are the answer to “biological sex”?? Right?? Cells have receptors that “hear” the signal from sex hormones. But sometimes those receptors don’t work. Like a mobile phone that’s on “do not disturb’. Call and cell, they will not answer.
What does this all mean?
It means you may be genetically male or female, chromosomally male or female, hormonally male/female/non-binary, with cells that may or may not hear the male/female/non-binary call, and all this leading to a body that can be male/non-binary/female.
Biological sex is complicated. Before you discriminate against someone on the basis of “biological sex” & identity, ask yourself: have you seen YOUR chromosomes? Do you know the genes of the people you love? The hormones of the people you work with? The state of their cells?
Since the answer will obviously be no, please be kind, respect people’s right to tell you who they are, and remember that you don’t have all the answers. Again: biology is complicated. Kindness and respect don’t have to be. “

Yadda yadda yadda.

Define ‘full surgery’. They have undertaken surgery to produce a facsimile of the opposite sex’s primary and secondary sex characteristics.

I find it amazing that 19% of respondents here think it’s possible for humans to change sex. I’m aware there are quite a few issues in our educational system, but I didn’t think it was this bad!

Possibly why there’s so many messed up kids!

And do few of them do............

Well said @happydappy2people can present however they want but I’m horrified at the way this cult sucks in autistic vulnerable girls. There’s almost no support for kids with autism and most struggle socially but say you’re trans and suddenly you are surrounded by friends and supporters who cheer you on. These kids suddenly have friends and the promise that all of their problems will disappear in a puff of smoke. It’s truly evil the way they are lured in.

It is truly worrying, social contagion or culture like, sucking in the vulnerable, lots of autistic young people. Sold a lie. Poor kids. Some sort of experiment. Change and all your problems will disappear. Feels like grooming. I feel a major public inquiry into the huge grooming of vulnerable children into trans will come in the future. Children gave been failed not protected.

Its a mental illness
That we are chopping and changing people's bodies for and medicating with body altering meds
We will look back in years to come at women who chopped their breasts of and wonder what madness took over the country .

I think there's a lot of trans hatred and ignorance on mumsnet and it's pretty shocking to be honest. Your opinion doesn't make something fact.

The fact is you can’t change sex. It’s that simple.

You can have your own feelings, you can’t have your own facts. Gender non conforming men/women are just that, gender non conforming. This doesn’t make them the opposite sex and these people have been sold down the river by trans activists.

I think people should stop trying to police stranger's bodily autonomy and speaking about them them like they're specimens to be dissected, as if you're not someone who is part of that demographic of people, you will never understand it or be able to speak about what should or shouldn't be done.

Yes, I think things would be vastly improved if men stopped thinking they could determine what it means to be a woman

Biological facts is not hatred. Dress as anyone wants but let's not pretend anyone can change sex. They can't. That's not hatred, it's true.

GarlicSmile · 22/04/2025 19:28

@PandyMoanyMum, all that tells you is there are TWO sexes in humans (and most other life forms) and that developmental DISORDERS exist. There's no third sex, no in-between sexes, no people with both sets of reproductive organs.

Things can go wrong during foetal development. They go wrong in any body part for an assortment of reasons. Babies are sometimes born with extra limbs, less than four limbs, with incomplete faces and all sorts. We don't say this proves the number of limbs a human has is complicated, do we? Or have you ever heard anyone insist the mouth and nose are not separate features and it's bigoted to assume they are?

It's very strange that people get so worked up about disorders of sexual development. The fact that they do shows, if anything, that sexual dimorphism's so strongly featured in humans that many can't get their heads around it. They find articles like the one you cited and go "Aaah! It's all so weird! None of us can know what sex we are!!"

People who actually have disorders/differences of sexual development know exactly what sex they are. Fyi, no female in the world produces sperm. That requires a Y chromosome. Some - a very, very few - males (people with a Y chromosome) develop female-pattern bodies. They do not produce sperm or ova. Since they've been raised a girls and, with hormonal help, develop as women, I tend to the view that people with Swyer syndrome are women. Some don't, because they are chromosomally male.

However, people with DSDs are extremely clear they reject the view of their disorders as proof of 'trans' and have repeatedly asked genderists NOT to use them as an argument. I don't blame them.

Thinking or feeling you ought to have been the other sex is not a DSD, it's the outcome of gender stereotyping. Any fucker can wear what they want and fancy whom they like, at least in cultures like ours. In some places, of course, people who are same-sex attracted or prefer to dress as the opposite sex are killed or forced to have genital surgery. Personally, I fail to see this as a model to emulate.

It's very Emperor's new clothes. People were told 'be kind', don't say anything, you'll upset trans. People are seeing things clearly.

The scales have fallen off with the behaviour of some men who wear dresses stomping over women's rights, crashing into women's rape centres, changing rooms, cheating women out of their medals, telling women what women should do, say, be.

More and more people are waking up and seeing the damage of the social contagion to teens and young people. Awful damage. I don't want to enable that harm. The Cass report starting showing the damage done to young people.

Isn't everyone non-binary really? No one really fits these stereotypes. That's why gender identity is meaningless

People can transition, but from a man to a trans woman or from a woman to a trans man and the difference should remain so, a trans woman is not a woman, two different meanings and two different sex’s.

The problem seems to be a trans woman is trying to say they are a woman, they are not, they’re a trans woman. The fact they are trying to blur the lines is what’s causing the problem, instead of accepting they was one sex and now identify as another, this still does not mean the sex they was born into has not changed.

There's no 'full surgery'.

There's no surgery or medication that can change someone's sex.

Surgery, hormones etc can only change some of the characteristics & modify some of the body parts but no one can ever 'change sex'

Rosie8880 · 22/04/2025 19:20

Pricelessadvice · 22/04/2025 19:07

More should be done so that young people recognise that it’s ok to be, for example, a female who doesn’t feel very female and doesn’t conform to normal female stuff. Same with males. Everyone fits under their biological male or female banner, but where you sit on that banner is absolutely up to you. The transitioning thing needs to be stopped.

It’s ok to be a woman who prefers male clothes and shuns female stereotypes. That doesn’t mean you’re a man, it just means you are sitting further along the female banner than, say, Barbie is. Same with men. You might be an extremely feminine man who prefers wearing female clothes and/or make- up, and that’s fine too. But you’re still a man, you‘re just sitting on a different section of the male banner than Rambo is.

The notion that if you don’t like x, y and z then you must surely be the opposite sex is madness to me.

Isn’t that where the idea of non binary comes in.?

If you only read Mumsnet and never stepped foot outside the door you'd think the country was populated only of trans people desperately trying to force themselves into public toilets.

There's a damaging cult but not necessarily the one you think it is 🙄

Totally agree.
