To ask where the silliest / most inappropriate place you’ve seen a dog taken by the owner Inspired by recent posts complaining about dogs being everywhere in cafes etc Yesterday in our local Cathedral Easter service , a dog was taken up to the altar for communion with its owners. I’ve seen it all now 😃 I was unfortunately unable to see if they attempted to snaffle a bit of bread for the dog , but it honestly wouldn’t have surprised me Just why ?

Definitely not anti dog but was pretty annoyed by the school therapy dog being allowed to hover just outside the school hall during a sharing assembly (glass doors). People were distracted wanting to see where the dog noise was coming from or what the dog was doing, rather than listening to the children who were trying so hard in their performance. Basically the dog was more important than the pupils. I like dogs but that's just wrong.

We don't know that. According to this thread they can enjoy art galleries, participate in funerals, understand liturgical rites, enjoy clothes shopping at John Lewis and so much more, so who knows what they're thinking about you on the loo?

I remember being in a church in Italy with my very Catholic ILs, a little old lady indicated would we mind holding her dog’s lead while she went up for communion, which we agreed. Dog was no trouble.

Also — it’s pragmatic. One quiet dog might be no trouble. But what if another dog appears and they decide to have a doggy greeting?

Just seen a dog on a dog bed being wheeled round our local aquatics shop in a shopping trolley. It’s fish only, not a pet shop so no bloody reason for a dog to be in there.

We were on NT parkland with cattle on it and numerous signs saying dogs must be on leads. One stupid owner walking along with dog not on lead. Dog runs off towards the cattle and ignores owners calls so owner has to go running after it to catch it.

Another dog got shot by a farmer because the owner allowed it loose and out of sight on a hill covered in sheep. Owner complained to the police but didn't get anywhere.

I have a dog and I hate this too. Just because I have a dog does not mean I accept stuff like that

Yes. We were at a busy food fayre at Lichfield and as anyone knows who goes there, it gets rammed by people in narrow spaces. Being a food fayre, there’s all sorts of tantalising cooking smells. I saw so many stressed dogs being squeezed through the tightly-packed throngs of people. Poor things

On a tiny ferry and then into Fingals Cave on Staffa off Iona in Scotland. Poor dog was bloody terrified throughout. Stupid owners.

Back in the 50s my mum was out and about and spontaneously decided to see a film in the cinema and completely forgot she had the dog with her until the end of the film when the dog scrambled to get up.

A friend deliberately chose a wedding venue so her dog could be there.

However she wouldn't take her dog to a random wedding.

You need context sometimes... like with funerals. Its fine for the beloved family pets to be there (even the Queen got that!) Its wrong to just randomly take your pet.

Her favourite pony was on the route. There is no way that any animal would have been allowed into the late Queen's funeral. She was an animal lover, but she understood the limits!

I'm not sure it's a good idea for dogs to be in clothes shops but as someone else said, some people's lives are complicated. I have a ten year old Bichon who's just lost his best friend. Bichons are notoriously clingy at the best of times so I can't leave him at home (although he's ok in the car while I nip into a shop).

I live alone and have a chronic health condition so often, by the time I've walked my dog, I've got no energy to go back out to get food/run errands. It's much easier if I can pop into the post office etc. whilst I'm out on the dog walk. Even if I'm ok, I have to take the car out so I guess that's not acceptable either.

But if your dog makes your life complicated, that's not other people's problem to solve 🤷‍♀️

Dog ownership is a lifestyle choice. A perfectly valid one that gives many people joy, but a choice nonetheless.
