Would someone be unreasonable to be annoyed if a grandparent got one grandchild (age 5) 2 easter eggs and the other (10 months old) no eggs

OP posts:
NewsdeskJC · 21/04/2025 08:01

I'd have got a book or a bunny instead tbh

Marchitectmummy · 21/04/2025 07:33

Giving eggs to 10 month olds is ludicrous however could the giver not provide something else like money to both for fairness?

Cornishclio · 21/04/2025 07:29

I honestly can’t remember buying Easter Eggs for my grandchildren when they were babies and I certainly don’t think a 10 month old should get any let alone 6. I might have bought a packet of chocolate buttons for them. I think your sister is being ridiculous. The baby will not be aware that her cousin got 2 at 5 years old. I bought each of my grandchildren 2 small ones each but they are 7 and 9. I also bought my adult daughters and son in law and husband one each.

Nominative · 21/04/2025 07:28

I bought 10 month old niece a book. Her parents rightly made it entirely clear that she wouldn't be eating any chocolate.

crockofshite · 21/04/2025 06:54

Hi877 · 20/04/2025 22:17

Thanks. The baby already got 6 eggs and 1 chocolate bunny

Kryst, don't complain when you can't find an affordable dentist for your o b e s e children

Lulu1919 · 21/04/2025 06:54

We bought our 10 month old grandson a fluffy chick and a couple of Easter books
He's not allowed chocolate he's too young.
We bought the four year old and Easter egg and a fluffy chick

LSTMS30555 · 21/04/2025 06:53

@NattyTurtle59 I used capitals to make the point again that nobody needs chocolate or gifts that's not the point being made do you understand that? They left the baby out and only got Easter gifts for (obviously their favourite) grandchild.
And NHS guidelines are just that guidelines not rules or law.

LSTMS30555 · 21/04/2025 06:47

Silvertulips · 21/04/2025 04:55

I think it is unfair - I have 3 DN ones a baby - I buy ‘the baby’ his mothers favorite egg -why wouldn’t you?

Im sure this isn’t the first problem the sister has had with parents

Exactly it's just spiteful leaving the baby out.
Says it all really

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 21/04/2025 06:45

No one should buy a 10m old an egg.
We had to explain that to mil who brought a hamper for a 15m old

Presumably the baby is hers....not yours

I think she's jealous because your child is the oldest and she's worried her baby is 2nd best /not getting enough fuss.

Your poor mum...

TheGamblersGone · 21/04/2025 06:41

People who want eggs for 10 month old babies are people who actively want meaningless gestures that cost money and buy into consumerism as a way to show love. Your sister is part of the problem of life

Turkishcoffee · 21/04/2025 06:27

101Nutella · 21/04/2025 04:05

I’m sure the NHS guidelines say no additional sugar in products (eg outside of the naturally occurring sugar) until 2yrs! Mirrored in other guidelines too.

so to expect chocolate for a 10 month old is inappropriate. Your sister is BU. Easter isn’t Christmas, I’m sure when the baby is old enough your parents will give them an egg too!

Totally agree here.

Good on Grandma for not giving a baby chocolate. I'm sure when the baby is older, the grandma will give them a treat like the 5 year old.

DreamTheMoors · 21/04/2025 05:54

NattyTurtle59 · 21/04/2025 05:43

The point is that the baby doesn't care so why is it so upsetting for the child's mother? Presumably when the child is old enough for an Easter egg then it will get one, in the meantime the grandparents are showing a bit of common sense, which is sadly lacking in many of the posters on this thread.

Not upset, so much, no.

I know someone who would’ve taken her 2-day-old baby not receiving an Easter egg when all the teenagers did the MOST INSULTING THING TO HAPPEN SINCE LAST EASTER!!
Lol and I’m only half joking. She goes out of her way to be offended. She hunts for things to be offended by.
She’s perpetually offended.

NattyTurtle59 · 21/04/2025 05:48

Lostsadandconfused · 21/04/2025 02:55

Why do you need to buy anything for a 10 month old? They have no idea of the concept of Easter, or even what a present is.

Exactly. It's just an idiot parent whining over nothing.

NattyTurtle59 · 21/04/2025 05:46

LSTMS30555 · 21/04/2025 04:00

@PyongyangKipperbang no your binging ridiculous, if they buy for 1 buy for all.
Also as previously stated (repeatedly) NOBODY NEEDS CHOCOLATE BE IT BABY, TODDLER, TEEN OR ADULT!
So again what's your point?
Why can't the baby; nearly 1yr old have an Easter Egg?

Because it's not what you give to babies of that age. If you want to ruin your kids' health then that is your business, but others have a few more clues.

Using capital letters does not make your argument any more viable.

NattyTurtle59 · 21/04/2025 05:43

LSTMS30555 · 21/04/2025 02:53

@NattyTurtle59 but the child's mother knows her parents clearly favour their other grandchild.
So what point are you making?

The point is that the baby doesn't care so why is it so upsetting for the child's mother? Presumably when the child is old enough for an Easter egg then it will get one, in the meantime the grandparents are showing a bit of common sense, which is sadly lacking in many of the posters on this thread.

My parent’s anniversary was in November and Dad got Mum a beautiful pearl necklace.
My 2 sisters and I oohed & ahhed over it.
At Christmas, there was an identical necklace waiting for each of us. We were thrilled.
We oohed and ahhed over Dad.
Dad started buying much thriftier gifts for Mum, but his taste never faltered, just in case.
And even still, one of my sisters was always afraid that she - or one her kids - was going to be cheated out of something by someone.
If you get one chocolate egg for one person, make sure you get chocolate eggs for everybody.
Life’s much easier and far happier that way.

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 21/04/2025 05:02

I have one GD, (2) one SGD (8 months) and my youngest son is 5. I had a huge ass balloon gift thing made for my GD with bits and bobs and some chocolate in for my GD. My little boy got a million (seems like it anyway) eggs, that I’ll take one for the team and help him eat and my lovely baby SGD I had made a personalised bunny teddy, popped in a basket with some wind up chicks and a few cute outfits…. Oh and two white chocolate eggs even though her mum had said she wasn’t even trying chocolate yet…. When I handed the basket I said “ the eggs are for you two…. Sometimes people just buy, as that’s the done thing. I won’t be offended if it’s not eaten!! It’s the thought that counts. Well usually…: I got zero eggs from anyone!! lol!!

Silvertulips · 21/04/2025 04:55

Yes. The baby does not need sn Easter egg, her time will come!

Hi877 · 20/04/2025 22:17

That's just ridiculous. No child needs that much chocolate

sesquipedalian · 21/04/2025 04:12

“The baby already got 6 eggs and 1 chocolate bunny”

I am astounded. You do know the guidelines say no sugar for such little ones? I hope someone brushes this poor child’s teeth.

101Nutella · 21/04/2025 04:05

Zanzara · 21/04/2025 03:50

I didn't get my young GC Easter eggs. The older one goes nuts if he gets a sugar rush and the little one's too young. I sent their Mum some money for a family treat.

SouthLondonMum22 · 21/04/2025 03:49

DoYaKnowTheFiveLamps · 21/04/2025 03:40

Hard chocolate? At least leave it out of the fridge for a bit.

My 11 month old twins happily tucked into chocolate today with no issues and they don't have all of their teeth yet. Just stayed away from choking hazards such as mini eggs.
