Would someone be unreasonable to be annoyed if a grandparent got one grandchild (age 5) 2 easter eggs and the other (10 months old) no eggs

No. Would mind and wouldn't expect alternative gift

Don’t be daft. A 10 month old and a 5 year old shouldn’t be treated the same, there is a good 4 years difference between them.

No, of course they shouldn’t be treated the same, they are very different! But one given two Easter eggs by grandparents and one given nothing - nah not for me.

Sofiewoo · 21/04/2025 17:17

That a baby is too young for chocolate? 5 year olds aren’t stupid they can understand basic differences in age without becoming a brat. It’s the same reason the 10 month old doesn’t have a bike, or go to school, or get juice.

I don’t actually think the 5 year old would become a “brat” because of it, I was just quoting the wording of PP… but no sorry I don’t agree with you, I think getting two Easter eggs for one child and nothing for the other is unfair and it wouldn’t sit right with me, regardless of their age. The baby doesn’t have to get chocolate, or some elaborate gift, but a little something to make it seem fair.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/04/2025 17:18

Not an egg but a cuddly chick /book etx

Omg 🙄 you’ve completely missed my point. Obviously, the 10 month old doesn’t know any different - I’ve said it’s for the benefit of the 5 year old. And the reason for that is to STOP the 5 year old becoming an “entitled little brat” in your words. If 5yo is given two Easter eggs by their grandparents and they watch their sibling being given absolutely nothing, what message if that sending the 5yo?

It's 10 months old, it won't know any different. These comments are utterly insane. This is why children grow up to be entitled, little brats because of their parents materialistic attitudes

@TheCurious0range
and that’s fine. I wouldn’t mind ‘wasting’ what would likely be less that 2€. It’s just a nice thought/gesture. It’s up to the parents after that. And they’d definitely get eaten by someone

I threw Easter eggs away a few weeks ago because they still hadn't been eaten from the last two years.

Yes. Children shouldn’t have sugar before 2.

I wouldn't encourage a 10 year old to eat Easter eggs no!

Poor kid - are they strictly for adults only? Grin

Livelovebehappy · 21/04/2025 08:59

My gd is 8 months and it never occurred to me to get her a chocolate egg. I bought her an Easter book and a bunny. But I noted her other gran had bought her an egg. Didn’t comment on it as clearly some people do that (plus none of my business!), but to me it seemed inappropriate.

Createausername1970 · 21/04/2025 08:44

We never did "Easter presents" as a child, nor did we as nieces and nephews were growing up. It was an Egg. That's was it.

So on the basis that it wouldn't have occurred to me to get a chocolate egg for a baby, nor an alternative present, the only unreasonable part of it is that this person thought it reasonable to get two eggs for a 5 year old.

LittleBigHead · 21/04/2025 08:39

Hi877 · 20/04/2025 22:19

All fine. Basically its my sister. She asked me if my DD (5 year old) had got an egg from our mum and dad. I said yes 2 and she looked taken aback and said 'oh, they didnt get one for baby and then seemed quite annoyed about it

Well, I think you've got your reason then - your sister sees that your parents treated your DC differently from hers. Your parents probably thought (as do most PPs) that a 10month old DC doesn't need so much chocolate, but I can also see it from your sister's point of view - it looks as though they've overlooked her DC in favour of yours.

Inmydreams88 · 21/04/2025 08:37

I have a 15 month old, my family bought them an egg and I told them thanks but he’s not eating chocolate yet and they said to just eat it myself.

My partners family didn’t give anything for my child for Easter but did buy eggs for our other newphew who’s 2. I dont think my partners family know my child has never had chocolate or anything with added sugar. So I can see where someone might be slightly put out if one child got a gift and the other didn’t. But since I don’t want my child to have chocolate at all I didn’t really care.

Crunchymum · 21/04/2025 08:37

Hi877 · 20/04/2025 22:17

Thanks. The baby already got 6 eggs and 1 chocolate bunny

A 10 month old got all this?

Fucking Hell.

Sofiewoo · 21/04/2025 08:35

YABU a 10 month old shouldn’t be eating an Easter egg and doesn’t know any different.

I personally get babies that age a little egg themed gift but some people only do eggs and no I wouldn’t expect a 10 month old to be included.

Goldengirl123 · 21/04/2025 08:35

I hope you aren’t going to let the baby have them?

Eldermillennialmum · 21/04/2025 08:34

Saying that our DC was around ten months old for their first Easter and we let them have chocolate. I don't remember what other family members gave but I wouldn't have been put out if they'd given an egg as we'd have just eaten it!

Goldengirl123 · 21/04/2025 08:34

10 mth old shouldn’t be eating chocolate. YABU

Superhansrantowindsor · 21/04/2025 08:34

I’d get the baby a little toy but not chocolate.

Eldermillennialmum · 21/04/2025 08:32

I wouldn't expect the baby to be given an Easter egg necessarily but they could have given something for Easter. Personally I'd have wanted to treat the children the same so if I got chocolate for the 5 year old I'd have got something else for the baby like an Easter book or toy,

TheCurious0range · 21/04/2025 08:30

butterdish93 · 21/04/2025 08:25

I wouldn’t leave the baby out. A ten month old with an older sibling has very likely tried chocolate before!
my ten month old would absolutely have noticed that their big siblings had chocolate/something they didn’t have.
i wouldnt have hot a baby a huge Lindt egg or anything, but a little pack of choccy buttons or a small, hollow egg would be fine, and make them very happy!

I wouldn't have given my 10 month old chocolate so it would've been a waste of your money

ACR7 · 21/04/2025 08:08

My 10 month old was bought eggs by family. Just because she was bought them doesn’t mean she gets to scoff them all. It’s just a nice gesture. She will have a little bit though. Despite some of judgemental posts I’ve seen on here I don’t think it’s the end of the world for an almost one year old to have a little bit of chocolate for a treat.

Moonnstars · 21/04/2025 08:05

No it's not unreasonable for a 10 month old not to be given an egg (and it's crazy to think they got given so many...who bought them all?!?). However I would think that if the grandparents were buying gifts for another grandchild they would choose an alternative such as a book or small toy instead, or put in a couple of pounds for the child's piggy bank.
