Of course women will be safer

Following the Supreme Court ruling. I’m flummoxed by the amount of women I considered intelligent friends, posting rubbish about how women are actually no safer and this ruling is just anti-trans. I just don’t understand how intelligent women are coming to this conclusion.

The main argument seems to be that men will be men and will still rape and assault.

Of course they will.

But now, they can no longer just assert ‘I am a woman’ and automatically be able to enter women’s spaces unchallenged to do this. And this did happen, a few examples below.

They will no longer be able to enter women’s changing rooms and film teenage girls naked. They will no longer be able to enter the women’s toilets in Morrisons unchallenged and sexually assault a 10yr old girl. They will no longer be able to be housed in women’s prisons raping vulnerable women in the shower. This will all stop.

Yes, I do understand the negative impact on a few trans women and I feel for them, but why should ALL women put themselves and their daughters at risk for this tiny minority? I just don’t get it. If you’re campaigning for anything, campaign for 3rd spaces surely? But don’t campaign to allow any man the right to enter women’s spaces.

I have no issue with trans people in any way (I know a few) but I just can’t understand this argument that all women should be more at risk. Of course most trans women aren’t a threat. But men pretending to be women for access to women ARE a threat. And this ruling makes it harder for them to rape and assault us.

The amount of friends I’m seeing posting this rubbish has thrown me. I feel like I’m in an a weird alternate reality.

Of course women will be safer

Women and children are remarkably good at identifying people who are male. There are endless studies demonstrating this. Blokes seem to lose this ability to some degree in adulthood - perhaps as it isn’t as important a survival skill.

One of the main things is gait. Because of the difference on hip shape (and therefore the angles the thighs to knees) men and women have a completely different gait pattern.

Even when all other things are blocked out except dots on joints in video footage women can differentiate between men and women walking with great accuracy.

Those hips do not lie!

And nor do the q-angles!

Patronising or what. And no I don't think you can sex a person from looking at them.

Do you actually for a start speak to everyone you meet in public toilet? I don't. I tend to want to get in and get out. I don't normally start a conversation with the person I'm washing my hands next too. Apparently you do and then decide you need to have a conversation with everyone else.

And why are you asking me about what I believe about single spaces? That isn't what I asked you.

For all those who cannot correctly sex most male people, either on sight, watching them move, or through other interaction, please don't believe that your inability is the norm.

And actually, it is irrelevant that you cannot if you personally don't care.

But to assume that others cannot because you cannot is simply false.

Women are now going to be put on situations where they have to prove they are biologically female to claim the protections that we are entitled to. For example, several police force have now said that male police officers will strip search trans women (and by extension, any woman they think is trans who doesn't happen to be carrying her birth certificate to prove that she was female at birth).

What scaremongering claptrap. Nothing has changed in the law. All will be as it was before this trans nonsense became mainstream. Nobody was asked to prove their sex then. It’s about having the right to single sex spaces and when that right is infringed, we can raise the alarm without the fear of being called bigots

aCatCalledFawkes · 20/04/2025 18:16

Why? Do you think tranwomen look like men in disguise? How are you going to stop them coming in to female spaces without some sort of proof?

What’s the disguise?

Nice abusive use of the laughing reaction emoji there.

Isn’t the issue that if trans men (who present as men) now have to use the women’s loos then it actually makes it easier for predatory biological men to go into the women’s loos, they won’t even have to dress up or disguise themselves, they can just pretend they’re trans men?

I think that most trans men will continue to just quietly get on with their lives as best they can. As always.

They've nothing to fear from women, and the tra lot have never given a shiny shit about them.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 20/04/2025 18:47

aCatCalledFawkes · 20/04/2025 18:24

What they look like a man so your just going to report it? With all the plastic surgery etc we have these days. I'm not sure how many trans people you have met, but some of it is really good and no I wouldn't expect them to look like a man or walk in with there penis hanging out.

Have you SEEN any of the news reels from the recent TRA protests?

There was not a single transwoman on those reels that had enough plastic surgery to pass. Heck, some hadn't even had any surgery at all and were still sporting their male patterned baldness, 5 o clock shadow, neck beards and wearing their crusty dusty jeans and t shirts from 15 years ago.

Yes, some transwomen can "pass", it's such a small small portion of what is claimed to already be a small portion of the population.

Those that can "pass" well the onus is on them. They're the ones being deceitful, no amount of surgery will make them not men, but they are all categorically delusional if they think they all pass.

Do you believe that female people should have single sex space that exclude male people or not?

Helleofabore · 20/04/2025 18:38

Eyesopenwideawake · 20/04/2025 18:29

No, I was simply asking about the practicalities of enforcing such a ban.

I presume transexual/transvestite people used the toilets corresponding to their public appearance since they were introduced in the late 1800s.

And did they ever ask women and girls for consent for them to do so? No. They were actually never meant to be there.

Now we have a situation where there are many more of them and too many of them took advice from other male people (initially the doctors who did the surgeries in the 70s, or so I have read) and male centred organisations. There was never consent given by female people for this to happen.

Do you or do you not believe that female people should have single sex spaces that exclude all male people over the age of needing an adult's care?

I was thinking of starting a poll of how many MNers have:

A transwoman friend who is 5'4 has had 'all the surgeries' and the poster didn't even realise was transwoman until they were told;

Or, a transman friend who is over 6 foot and muscle bound and is indistinguishable from a man;

Or, a teenage DD/DDs friend who is over 5'10 and androgynous and is constantly being accused of being a man in public toilets;

Or, a butch lesbian friend who is constantly being accused of being a man in public toilets.

I'm up to at least 10 since Wednesday. It's amazing.

I am up to at least 3 "I've met someone with both male and female reproductive organs". Sure you have Benjamin. They go to another school.

You seem to believe that most female people, of all ages, are unable to correctly sex a person in real life and with some kind of interaction, including speaking to them.

I guess if you have never thought about it, perhaps you don't understand that it is hardly likely that over time a male person entering the female toilets will remain unnoticed.

What will I actually do? I reckon I will let others know from the outside that I think there is a male person in there and will let them make their own decisions. Having been abused by several male people with transgender identities now on different occasions (not in a space on my own even), I am not about to approach them. I will also call whatever security I can get a hold off, and ask them to do a check.

Do you believe that female people should be able to have single sex spaces that excludes male people, or not?

I grew up being called a boy/man until I finally grew my hair long.

You are making some startling assumptions about me based on nothing.

Yes, women and girls will continued to be asked because that was how we ascertained whether we should leave, raise the alarm or whatever we felt we needed to do. And yes, for some women and girls it will be uncomfortable, but there is currently no mechanism to do otherwise.

Do you or do you not believe that female people should have female only single sex spaces?

forgotmyusername1 · 20/04/2025 18:34

Realistically if people pass either way they will continue to use the bathroom they want

What they won't be able to do is get their willy out in the changing room, self id is dead. Women will be able to raise the alarm of men in women's spaces without being worried about being arrested themselves or being gas lit into silence.

My husband accidentally went into the women's loos once. Fortunately it was empty but if it hadn't been he could have just said 'I identify as a woman' and been entitled to stay. That is how daft self id was.

The tra's have themselves to blame for this. By pushing for self Id and no discourse they created a death knell for support for their cause.

FridayFeelingmidweek · 20/04/2025 18:34

I still can't believe the headline was still focusing on women...again! Where's the whole 'what makes a man' arguments? I find it fascinating (and telling) that more biological men are trans than the other way round.

Why is this all on biological women? I can't fathom why biological men aren't bring expected to make their spaces more available, safe and welcoming to trans women.

"You must be a man. Women know when they see a man. It’s always obvious. for some reason men don’t get that."

This says that if you can't tell someone is a bio male by looking at them, you must be a man, because all women can tell, always.

True true.

aCatCalledFawkes · 20/04/2025 18:31

Annascaul · 20/04/2025 18:25

Are you seriously implying that nobody can tell biological women from trans identifying males?
Come off it 🤦‍♀️

I mean honestly. What do you think the characteristics and obvious signs of a transwoman are 😳
I'm actually quite supportive of the ruling earlier in the week, but people thinking they can just look at someone and report them for not being the right gender is just madness.

amylou8 · 20/04/2025 18:30

Yes this is absolutely the crux of the argument. It's not anti trans it's pro women.
We have no way of knowing who the bad men are, so the only way is keep all men out, that includes those who are trans identified.
It's unfortunate that some trans identified males will be impacted by this, however the safety of women and girls cannot be compromised for the feelings of this minority.
If trans identified males and trans activists want to blame anyone, blame the males who make this necessary, not the women wanting single sex safe spaces.

TogepiSun · 20/04/2025 18:29

Felinnefine · 20/04/2025 18:26

That doesn’t make any sense. It’s not that they didn’t ‘agree with’ me or ‘think like’ me, it’s that what they stated, was incorrect.

‘men can just say ‘I’m a trans man’ and enter female spaces, this just makes it easier for the actually dangerous men now.’

Lots of transwomen - TIM is better isn’t it - seem to think they blend seamlessly with women. Whereas in reality they stick out like a sore thumb. Sorry guys.

(not sorry)

Did we need them before women and girls were told that they needed to welcome male people with transgender identities into the female single sex spaces?

Or did you just pick up on some extreme transgender activist discussion points and think this was a convincing point for you?

How will you actually know if a transwoman enters a womans space? What will you actually yourself do to make sure this doesn't happen and what official checks do you expect to happen?

I think the argument has been "sometimes you can't tell" - not "you can always tell" or "you can never tell". But women who say that aren't really women apparently.

Lots of very emotive language and claims being made, and as usual not an iota of evidence to back it up. Where’s the evidence that trans friendly policy puts women at increased risk?
