Of course women will be safer

Following the Supreme Court ruling. I’m flummoxed by the amount of women I considered intelligent friends, posting rubbish about how women are actually no safer and this ruling is just anti-trans. I just don’t understand how intelligent women are coming to this conclusion.

The main argument seems to be that men will be men and will still rape and assault.

Of course they will.

But now, they can no longer just assert ‘I am a woman’ and automatically be able to enter women’s spaces unchallenged to do this. And this did happen, a few examples below.

They will no longer be able to enter women’s changing rooms and film teenage girls naked. They will no longer be able to enter the women’s toilets in Morrisons unchallenged and sexually assault a 10yr old girl. They will no longer be able to be housed in women’s prisons raping vulnerable women in the shower. This will all stop.

Yes, I do understand the negative impact on a few trans women and I feel for them, but why should ALL women put themselves and their daughters at risk for this tiny minority? I just don’t get it. If you’re campaigning for anything, campaign for 3rd spaces surely? But don’t campaign to allow any man the right to enter women’s spaces.

I have no issue with trans people in any way (I know a few) but I just can’t understand this argument that all women should be more at risk. Of course most trans women aren’t a threat. But men pretending to be women for access to women ARE a threat. And this ruling makes it harder for them to rape and assault us.

The amount of friends I’m seeing posting this rubbish has thrown me. I feel like I’m in an a weird alternate reality.

Of course women will be safer

But don't you get changed in a cubicle? I dont want anyone seeing me naked frankly All nurses provide intimate care regardless of their sexuality

JFC it’s not about sexuality - it’s about sex. A gay male nurse shouldn’t be providing intimate care to a woman. Because he a man. A lesbian nurse can. Because she’s a woman.

O don’t get changed ina cubicle of none are available. And whilst it’s not ideal o don’t mind changing in a woman’s communal space. I have a HUGE problem with changing in front of men though.

Women will not be safer, this puts more women at risk my friend is very tall, has fairly masculine features. She will be questioned, ridiculed and asked to use men's spaces while any male predators will still be predators

And to avoid that inconvenience rapists should be referred to as women and male fetishists allowed to invade women’s groups?

I was thinking of starting a poll of how many MNers have:

A transwoman friend who is 5'4 has had 'all the surgeries' and the poster didn't even realise was transwoman until they were told;

Or, a transman friend who is over 6 foot and muscle bound and is indistinguishable from a man;

Or, a teenage DD/DDs friend who is over 5'10 and androgynous and is constantly being accused of being a man in public toilets;

Or, a butch lesbian friend who is constantly being accused of being a man in public toilets.

I'm up to at least 10 since Wednesday. It's amazing.

My best friend is a butch lesbian. Shes 5’10” has short hair and buys clothes from the men’s section. Shes never been mistaken for a man, not once (the tits and female voice, if nothing else, usually give it away).

baddrivers · 20/04/2025 16:47

However men can just say ‘I’m a trans man’ and enter female spaces, this just makes it easier for the actually dangerous men now.

And they couldn’t/didn’t prior to Wednesday?

Why don’t you want women to be able to have single sex spaces?
the amount of whatabouttery and ludicrous “gotchas” are pathetic. If you keep up with these stupid ideas service providers could just choose to exclude transmen from women’s spaces which the ruling covers.

Original birth certificates

But those get changed, no? I had to order my birth certificate online recently as I misplaced mine. If you'd had yours changed by GRC then it would come with your "new gender" on it when you order it.

If issued at a date when the person was a child they should be accurate.

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:16

ForOliveMember · 20/04/2025 15:34

Because surely 99% of trans women just want to live as they choose and will not harm or abuse anyone, but that 1% who want to access womens spaces just to abuse them will do it either way.

Probably - but now businesses and organisations will be remiss on their duty if they don’t do something about it

I also doubt that ratio given the level of sexual crimes committed by TW

LucyMonth · 20/04/2025 20:14

Helleofabore · 20/04/2025 19:31

"I support the ruling but a sensible conversation would be great. & further discussion about how to keep women and girls safe. For every story of a trans “woman” harming someone in a women's space there are a 2000 of “cis” men harming women in women’s spaces. & that was happening looooong before there was any sort of acceptance of a trans person using a women’s space. It isn’t a new phenomenon that’s arisen due to trans rights."

This is another one of the arguments that we have seen used for years. It is about the overwhelming number of 'men' who harm women and girls. And it is absolutely true that the number is overwhelming.

Why though would you allow a loophole to allow any group of male people to access female single sex provisions to allow additional opportunities for female people to be harmed?

There are already laws in place for the general male population. And yes, there is a horrific lack of preventing those crimes and that harm.

Why though do women and girls need to wait until those crimes have been reduced?

When then will we be allowed by people saying there is more important issues to come back and address the loopholes that have been created?

This ruling means again that we can talk about ALL male people with the confidence that no groups of male people have been treated as specially exempt.

Why can women not work on multiple fronts and do both? We do this with many things, why is it that these male people get priority by some people that say we should leave this until later?

How many additional female people being harmed will be enough before we can address the situation for those who are saying that we should be focused elsewhere?

So you quoted me but then just ignored the very first sentence of the quote? You don’t have to justify the ruling to me when you literally quoted me saying I support it!

Of course women can work on multiple fronts but I see a whoooole lot of “work” being done on the trans women population that makes up 0.01% of the UK population, and never a conversation about the 49.9% of cis men who make up our population. You say laws already exist to stop the male population, but they already exist for every population! Just because someone identifies as a trans woman doesn’t make it legal for them to enter a woman’s space and assault her. You also admit that these laws don’t actually stop men…so what makes you think they’ll stop trans women?

Men attack women in women's spaces all the time. Men who were born as men. Dress as men. Live and identify as men. So this ruling means very, very little when it comes to keeping dangerous men out of women’s spaces. They have never required this “loophole” to attack us.

You say how many “additional” women need to be harmed before we take action? Firstly, the “action” you wanted has literally just been taken. Secondly no additional women have been harmed. Women are being attacked no more and no less than we’ve always been. The (tiny) number of trans women in the UK who have attacked women are men. They were men before and they are men now. Take away their legal access to women’s spaces and they’ll enter them anyway, as they have always done and/or they find another way to harm us.

I completely agree with the ruling. However I do not agree that we are safer because of it. I want to know specifically what is being done to make us safer in our spaces. Telling men, whether cis men or trans women, hey you can’t go in there and attack any women or girls now y’here? Hasn’t stopped then before.

TogepiSun · 20/04/2025 15:20

officers with a certificate they bought for a fiver to say they are really a lady.

Take your point. But that's not how GRC's work. Years waiting on the NHS lists right now or forking out hundreds just for an appointment where they assess you for hormone suitability, and you can stil be refused a diagnosis, and then after all of that you need letters from 2 medical professionals for the actual GRC application after it's been a certain timeframe. Think the local clinic in my area has a waitlist over 10 years long, and a private appointment (not the diagnosis itself just the initial 1st appointment) cost about £500.

Nobody pays a fiver for one.

What an awful lot of effort and expense for a pointless document. The NHS and public sector really need to stop doing this to people with dysphoria it’s fucking cruel

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:11

KrisAkabusi · 20/04/2025 15:11

You asked what she was on about. I responded with well-known stories about three well known people. I'm obviously not saying they are true, of course they aren't. But they are examples of women with non-traditional looks being harassed and judged for that fact. I've seen the Obama one discussed on MN. Nothing to do with incels.

Did all this speculation only happened after the Supreme Court ruling or was it before?

BundleBoogie · 20/04/2025 20:10

aCatCalledFawkes · 20/04/2025 19:59

Well, you know what? That’s good for you, at least you can tell if someone is trans. Maybe you’re not the vulnerable person that can’t tell or you have no need to worry when in a pub, cinema or restaurant and nobody is watching who goes in and out of the toilets.

I don’t think you understood my post.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 20/04/2025 20:10

”Transwomen” without GRCs should NEVER have been in women’s single sex spaces, irrespective of this judgment. Organisations who permitted this were discriminating against and harassing women.

It was only TW with a GRC who could ever have potentially had the right. Given that was only a tiny proportion of them, all this ruling really means is that the de facto self ID pushed on our public and private organisations by Stonewall, but has never been the law of this land, is at an end.

thefirebird · 20/04/2025 15:07

There is no point because you people (the self-proclaimed ‘gender critical’), never even attempt to approach the topic with good faith.

Such bad faith to be on the side of women and not centre deluded men

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:09

KrisAkabusi · 20/04/2025 15:05

Also, Black women and women who aren't conventionally attractive have always been harassed and classed as non-women. E.g. larger, more simply dressed, working class and so on. They are now less safe.

What on earth are you talking about?

Michelle Obama, Serena Williams, Lady Gaga and many others have all had rumours about them secretly having a penis because they are not conventionally "feminine ".

So what - what’s that got to do with the price of onions? So has Jamie Lee Curtis - it doesn’t mean men can change sex. This deflection isn’t fooling anyone

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:09

OhWhistle · 20/04/2025 15:02

I agree cis men are threatening and sometimes I have radical separatist thoughts despite knowing a few gentle and good ones.

Men. Not cis men. Transwomen are the same bunch you’re talking about BTW

JLou08 · 20/04/2025 14:57

Strong argument there, well done 🤣
I am open to any argument with substance if you want to give it another try?

Did you think that before Wednesday no man ever entered a woman’s toilet to assault her if he wanted to? What makes you think more will enter after this ruling?

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:07

OhWhistle · 20/04/2025 14:48

I've been seriously sexually assaulted and also perved at by women, including a bathroom incident at school. A lot of people I know have been assaulted e.g. by female childminders. It's often not as heavily violent as male assault nor can it cause pregnancy but it happens.

I'll only feel safer when there is more concern about addressing violence as such.

I feel less safe seeing the violence with which binaries are being enforced in the name of my rights. Not in my name.

You can’t legislate based on a random person’s school bullying experience. I’m sorry that that happened but the facts are 98% of sexual crimes are committed by men.

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:06

JLou08 · 20/04/2025 14:36

I don't believe women will be any safer. You say the changes only upset a minority. Those examples you give are an even smaller minority, it's looks like they're all in the US too. There are huge levels of sexual assault, most of it taking place in family homes. If someone is so depraved that they want to sexually assault someone they will find a way, stopping trans women from going into women's toilets won't save anyone.

Stopping rapist transwomen from being in women’s prisons will though.

Don’t be too distracted by the bathroom issue

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:05

OhWhistle · 20/04/2025 14:31

An increase in authoritarian legislation soon will be used against women.

Look around you. This is about increasing state control of bodies and individuals. Not about women's safety.

Is there going to be new funding or restored funding for women's and children's services now? For making public places safer and amenities more accessible? If not why not?

Next step will be legislation to protect men's spaces from feminists.

Also, Black women and women who aren't conventionally attractive have always been harassed and classed as non-women. E.g. larger, more simply dressed, working class and so on. They are now less safe.

WTF with your last para. Working class and black women look like men? Since when?

Next step will be legislation to protect men's spaces from feminists

Like we give a shit

Is there going to be new funding or restored funding for women's and children's services now? For making public places safer and amenities more accessible? If not why not?

Hopefully yes but this is a seperate issue and is not impacted by the fact men are men

Wakemeupbe4yougogo · 20/04/2025 20:04

I'm sick of men and their fetishes demanding to be normalised. They're not normal and they're not invading female spaces anymore. I do think this ruling will allow women to feel confident now in challenging those who are determined to push the boundaries - and they certainly will for a while.

BundleBoogie · 20/04/2025 20:03

SternJoyousBee · 20/04/2025 19:42

How anyone could defend men infiltrating lesbian, menopause or breast feeding groups is beyond me. The efforts to stop women being able to have anything to ourselves is sickening. Bullying women, threatening venues etc.

Edited

Not only do some of these people defend men infiltrating women’s things like breastfeeding groups etc but organisations like La Leche League actively persecute and sack women that object to men ‘breastfeeding’ after taking chemicals to induce ‘lactation’ with zero regard for the health of the baby.

It’s quite mind blowing how badly some people have lost their way.

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:02

StMarie4me · 20/04/2025 14:13

No, they can assert “I am a trans man” and walk into the women’s toilets, even when they are a cis man. And none of you will be able to object.

You’ve invited nefarious threatening cis men into your toilet.

Well actually we could object. And now we will be listened to.

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:02

BundleBoogie · 20/04/2025 14:09

You may be part of tiny minority of the population who claims they can’t tell by looking what sex a person is.

Interestingly there is a huge crossover between this population (let’s call you ‘sex-blind’) and trans activists. It is an odd affliction as even many animals can tell what sex a person is quite easily and they don’t even know about fashion.

Thankfully the vast majority of people do know, so this ruling is beneficial to women who now won’t be searched by the male police officers with a certificate they bought for a fiver to say they are really a lady.

Maybe your sex-blindness is treatable - I suggest seeing a doctor as your safety could be at risk if you can’t spot which humans are men.

I have no idea why people pretend we can’t tell men and women apart. My DS when he was about 3 used to be obsessed with describing people out loud in public. It was very embarrassing because he’d often point out people’s spots etc. but he would ALWAYS aced which sex they were even if they were wearing clothes/donned hairstyles typically worn by the opposite sex.

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 19:59

DarkForces · 20/04/2025 14:01

I certainly never heard of this happening before blokes started to demand access to women's spaces and even since never actually seen or heard of this from a reliable source.

I doubt it happens. I’d never have the balls to confront someone directly other than “Sorry this is the ladies’” - which has happened with a few short sighted men/places with confusing signs.
