Of course women will be safer

Following the Supreme Court ruling. I’m flummoxed by the amount of women I considered intelligent friends, posting rubbish about how women are actually no safer and this ruling is just anti-trans. I just don’t understand how intelligent women are coming to this conclusion.

The main argument seems to be that men will be men and will still rape and assault.

Of course they will.

But now, they can no longer just assert ‘I am a woman’ and automatically be able to enter women’s spaces unchallenged to do this. And this did happen, a few examples below.

They will no longer be able to enter women’s changing rooms and film teenage girls naked. They will no longer be able to enter the women’s toilets in Morrisons unchallenged and sexually assault a 10yr old girl. They will no longer be able to be housed in women’s prisons raping vulnerable women in the shower. This will all stop.

Yes, I do understand the negative impact on a few trans women and I feel for them, but why should ALL women put themselves and their daughters at risk for this tiny minority? I just don’t get it. If you’re campaigning for anything, campaign for 3rd spaces surely? But don’t campaign to allow any man the right to enter women’s spaces.

I have no issue with trans people in any way (I know a few) but I just can’t understand this argument that all women should be more at risk. Of course most trans women aren’t a threat. But men pretending to be women for access to women ARE a threat. And this ruling makes it harder for them to rape and assault us.

The amount of friends I’m seeing posting this rubbish has thrown me. I feel like I’m in an a weird alternate reality.

Of course women will be safer

Well they wouldn't be able to go swimming any where near me. The 4 pools I've used are all unisex changing villages.

I'm not sure what the relevance of that point is. No they won't be able to use unisex changing rooms. They won't be able to use female changing rooms that men can infiltrate. Can't we do the decent thing and ensure there is a space to accommodate them? Not necessarily in every pool, but some?

Well if its ONLY 150 violent rapists, fuck it, let them in a prison cell with women! 150 raped and traumatised women is a tiny amount!

BTW it’s more than that.

OR we could not use women as collateral damage to placate men’s delusions?

Fucking hell it REALLY is hard for some people to give women basic respect. Or even view them as human.

God I would LOVE just one sensible conversation about this without hyperbole.

Those 150 (it’s not more actually, it’s less. I’m rounding up) are the number in prison. Not all 150 are violent rapists. 60 were convicted of sexual crimes, most of them not rape.

I think the judges got the ruling 100% correct. I fully support it. However if we are being sensible the absolute factual reality is that trans women did not pose a significant threat to women so we are not significantly safer. If we want to be significantly safer we have to broaden this conversation instead of going on and on and on about trans women.

We are overwhelmingly attacked in our women’s spaces by cis gendered men. So clearly saying men are not allowed in our spaces (whether trans women or cis men) doesn’t keep us safe. So what now? How do we actually stop men, of any kind, from entering our spaces. Because cis men have never been allowed to come in our spaces but they’ve been doing it anyway. What makes us think this ruling stops anyone from doing anything??

Oh the barista at Starbucks can intervene now if they see a trans woman enter the women’s bathrooms?

Oh guess what? When a man (trans woman or otherwise) wants to enter a woman’s bathroom to attack woman they don’t just stroll in before a crowd and attack someone with witnesses around. They sneak in, undetected and harm lone women. So whether they snuck in dressed as a women or as a man it doesn’t matter. They pick a moment when no one can see, hear or know what’s happening.

A trans woman doesn’t stroll brazenly into a busy woman’s bathroom and attack a woman and a ha ha no one can stop me because I’m trans and I’m allowed in here 🙄 Raping another human has always been illegal. That’s why it’s always done in secret.

Doesn’t bother me, but she has a vagina, I don’t care how she got it I wouldn’t feel threatened by her if I was next to her in a changing room. Other people might but you’d never know anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

You can't speak for anyone else as whether they'd know or not. Regardless, this person knows and should show respect for women by not entering their spaces.

Look, bullying should never be tolerated and there's no reason why it should be tolerated here.

But women deserve changing space away from men if they'd prefer it. Think of the impact on orthodox religious women who could never use mixed changing rooms due to their religious requirements.

I don't think they will enter more after this ruling, nor do I think men who are there to harm women will enter less.

If they enter now, women will be much more empowered to challenge them and that will be enough to stop some if not all.

WTF with your last para. Working class and black women look like men? Since when?

Next step will be legislation to protect men's spaces from feminists

Like we give a shit

Is there going to be new funding or restored funding for women's and children's services now? For making public places safer and amenities more accessible? If not why not?

Hopefully yes but this is a seperate issue and is not impacted by the fact men are men

Look up misogynoir and the history of womanism

I know you don’t want to hear this, @redbusbeepbeep , but the “woman” in your previous post is just as male as that yoke.

No, but someone with a vagina makes me feel a lot more comfortable than someone with a penis regardless

Edited

They don't have a vagina because that's not possible to achieve with surgery.

I understand the point about not having a penis from a safety point of view, but this person still retain male advantages around strength and stamina.

While I see what you're saying, there is no such thing as a 'full transition'. No human can change sex. I feel sympathy for people like your friend but no hormones or surgery are making him a woman either.

You can’t legislate based on a random person’s school bullying experience. I’m sorry that that happened but the facts are 98% of sexual crimes are committed by men.

No

Lots of very emotive language and claims being made, and as usual not an iota of evidence to back it up. Where’s the evidence that trans friendly policy puts women at increased risk?

We don’t need to have any.

women have said for years that GRA/GRR/self ID was incompatible with women’s rights. We were told we were wrong and that trans right didn’t impact wonen’s.

The SC has just confirmed what a lot of us believed to be fact; that ‘woman’ and sex in the EA 2010 means female and biological sex.

Are you now claiming that women’s rights do in fact clash with what you think are existing trans rights? Or are you just trying to emotionally manipulate women into giving up our sex based rights in favour of men with different identities?

TheKeatingFive · 20/04/2025 20:37

JLou08 · 20/04/2025 20:35

I agree with that, I also agree with transwomen not participating in women's sports at a professional level, I think that's proportionate and there will be systems in place which make sure it only impacts the people it should.
I don't agree with toilets or changing spaces being monitored by women who may make an unfair observation of what they perceive to be a man in toilets or changing rooms, it will do more harm than good. Especially when it comes to teenagers, some teens aren't easily identified as girl or boy. Some teens are also vicious bullies and would relish in telling an girl who isn't feminine they aren't welcome.

Don’t be too distracted by the bathroom issue

People saying that trans women aren’t a threat are probably right 99.9% of the time, but how do you know which ones are a threat to you? Not all men, but which ones? I don’t know how it’s so hard to grasp.

I work with a trans women who has had the full transition many years ago now, and she understands the worry from cis women as she (in her words) ‘knows what men are like’ relating to her past friendships/experiences. I have a lot of respect for her. You would never question her use of female spaces because quite frankly you’d never know. If you’re genuinely serious about being transgender then you need to show it by having the full transition, until then accept that women will rightly so feel uncomfortable in your presence.

I voted you abu for the following reason.

A trans man goes into a women's space, and tells you that it's ok because they are a trans, so they are actually a woman by your definition. And as far as the Equality Act goes, the high court says so too.

Here is someone who presents and acts like a man. What recourse do we have? What proof do we have that he is a trans man and not a predator?

Transmen are generally easily identifiable due to their height, gait, hips, voice, feet/hand size - I could go on.

But seriously. Everyone knows what sex they are. Can men just please start doing the decent thing and stay out of spaces that don't belong to them

So men couldn’t and wouldn’t before Wendy go into women’s toilets/changing rooms and say “I identify as a woman” even though they look like men? Of course they would! Except now we can challenge it.

As trans women are men they commit sex crimes at the same rate as men. However they make up a tiny percentage of the population. So you are literally talking around 150 people in a population of 68m. So we are not significantly safer now than we were last week.

Most of the women on Mumsnet who talk about trans issues are in some vein aligned with being "gender critical" and feminist though. So yes, you would say masculine/butcher women won't have an issue, because that's part of the feminism. I think sometimes people forget that there are swathes of women in the world who don't align with this and who absolutely do judge masculine and butch women and are hostile towards them. It's not necessarily you or the women here who will be demanding to know they are "really female" or not.

I spent a lot of teen years being called a boy by people with narrow views of feminity. Of course it happens.

So did I. And I still don’t want to share my single sex spaces with men irrespective of their gender identity.

LucyMonth · 20/04/2025 20:26

JandamiHash · 20/04/2025 20:16

Probably - but now businesses and organisations will be remiss on their duty if they don’t do something about it

I also doubt that ratio given the level of sexual crimes committed by TW
