Have you ever been to a concert alone?

One of my favourite bands are playing at a venue in one of my favourite places (abroad and sunny). I don't have friends who would be interested in coming along with me. I'd look pathetic there alone, wouldn't I?

It's really lovely to read about so many people just getting stuck in having a good time.

No. I went to see the Foo Fighters last year on my own....it was my 60th birthday treat to myself. I was bricking it to begin with then I thought if I don't go I'll regret it for the rest of my life. I went and it was amazing - I can't remember feeling that exhilarated for a long, long time. You get talking to people and I wouldn't think twice about doing it again. For the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl I would walk over hot coals!!!

DrCoconut · 02/05/2025 22:57

Yes, the last one was last weekend. It's perfectly fine and once you get there you are surrounded by others who are there for the same reason so no one is thinking you're sad etc.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 02/05/2025 22:46

Yes. No problem at all, enjoyed it. You don't talk anyway when tge show is on.

LlynTegid · 01/05/2025 14:54

Many times, I acknowledge my taste in music is not the same as everyone else's.

Yes, did standing though and milling around i don't think you look alone. I think I might have felt differently in a seated concert. I had a great time but felt a little strange having no-one to talk to about it xx

Ugh

seated gigs are awful

I don’t understand this obsession many people have with what others might think of them. Why does it bother you?
Do you really think the attendees will be scanning the venue to spot who came alone? Come on! And even if they did, so what?
Grow up!

Totally agree with this.

I came to the realisation a long time ago that very few people give a shit.

And if they do, so what? Says more about them than me. Not sure why I should care what a complete stranger thinks.

I've been to several on my own over the years.

I’ve been to loads on my own. No way I’m missing out on things I want to do just because no-one wants to join me.

Same, and completely agree

Ladymuck2022 · 01/05/2025 00:31

Yes been to gigs alone.

Last one was really cool - a tribute act to Oasis, absolute musicians, who knew I’d have an infinity to oasis songs. (again I’d seen the tribute band before last summer at a festival in Canvey Island)
the crowd was such a happy one and I got talking to the random fella besides me.

It is a shame different music creates a different atmosphere
When I go to gigs for my pop music teenage heart throbs reborn that’s much of the time an ordeal as some of the fans can be catty and unfriendly even though we are now and should be grown women.

Anononony · 30/04/2025 23:54

Twice so far and I have absolutely loved both times, tbh I think I prefer going alone! I don't have to worry about someone else's comfort and I can spend all night in the pit without feeling like I'm neglecting the people with me (if they're not pit goers or want to be on the rails). It's also easier to move in and out of the crowd to get drinks or go to the loo alone, because you're not trying to either move a group or find a group, so as long as you're not trying to be on the rails you can come and go as you please.

I tend to get chatting to the people around me, both in the queue and once inside, I have pictures of me with 'gig friends 👍' who's names I don't know, and who I never saw again once the band started and I moved to wherever was the most energetic

I've never felt embarrassed or like people thought I was a loser, most people think it's pretty awesome you've got the confidence to go alone, I've also never felt unsafe, despite always heading for the mosh pit and being surrounded by blokes who are twice the size of me. You're all there for one thing and generally people look out for each other, a good gig is a massive group bonding experience

SurfeitofLampreys · 30/04/2025 23:37

Yep, I’ve been alone in the past, and I’m going alone to a gig in August.

I sometimes go with friends, either two of us or a group, but we don’t always share the same taste in music, and sometimes it’s murder getting everyone in one place at the same time for it.

DH and I have totally different tastes in music, that only very occasionally cross-over.

EveryDayisFriday · 30/04/2025 23:30

I go to comedy gigs alone, my best friend has moved to the other side of the country and DH works shifts that rarely coincide with the dates and even if he's not on nights, he'll have done a 12hr day so I wouldn't force him to come. I quite enjoy it and it's like the cinema where you can't really chat through it so I don't mind.

mrlistersgelfbride · 30/04/2025 23:26

Yep twice, both in my 20s.
It was amazing and I'd do it again.
My friends didn't fancy the music and I didn't want to miss out. Love doing things by myself.

Go ...you'll enjoy it 😊

God yes, love doing gigs alone. Tell you what ruins a gig - taking someone along who talks through it, or doesn’t really like the music.

MinkyWales · 30/04/2025 21:40

Lots of times. And will be doing it lots more this year.

It's so nice, isn't it? I love getting to see the band up so close.

Really glad you had a good time!

I loved it. The other people at the front were all super fans as well and the atmosphere was lovely. Beforehand I thought I might feel awkward, but I didn't at all.

I went to a gig alone for the first time this year. It was to a singer I love but nobody else I know likes him. I went early and was right up at the front. It was brilliant. I didn't have to worry about somebody else being bored. I'm 100% going to do it again.

madaboutpurple · 30/04/2025 19:58

I go on my own as I like different bands than my friends do. I prefer going to the thetre on my own as I can concentrate on the drama or musical.

A number of times, even went solo to New York to see my favourite band.

whatdidkatydo · 18/04/2025 22:17

My DH goes alone all time (not my kind of music) he thought the same initially but now is more than happy, you can’t chat anyway!
