Long time lurker, first time poster. DH thinks it’s quite funny, and IABU, but I’m really irked by this and I want to know what others think.

We’re having a loft conversion done, and have just had the en-suite shower room installed. Plumbing functions. The carpenter was in today and had the house to himself as we were all out.

He went to the existing bathroom, fetched a toilet roll, took it up to our brand new unused en-suite toilet, and took a dump. Nothing wrong with toilet in existing bathroom, it’s perfectly nice.

what was that all about? Does he hate us? Is he just a thoughtless male? Did he want to christen our toilet for us and leave skid marks as a gift? AIBU to be pissed off and want to complain?

I’m clearly clicked on the wrong posts on MN. Didn’t know poo trolls/builder poo threads were a thing. A thousand sincere apologies all, and commiserations to those who’ve had horrible experiences or feel similar to me. To each their own I guess!

Or to look at it another way, he didn’t spend time in your currently fully operational and personal
space bathroom. He used the one that was part of the worksite. With a quick nip to one in use by current residents to get paper.

Keep in mind how many people seem to feel the need to get a portaloo rather than let trades use their plumbing, a general tone of ‘don’t use the one they use’ is probably fairly well ingrained.

Plumfairies it says there are skid marks in the OP. I’ve just scrubbed them off.

We've recently renovated and initially had porta-a-loos, but once a toilet was usable inside the house, we let the workmen use it. No problem, its a toilet. We did come in 1 day to find an explosive poonami. It had sprayed upwards, splattering the underneath of the seat and down the sides of the bowl. He'd flushed, but had made no attempt to clean the splatter damage.

It is weird OP! In future, I'd just tell them to use the family bathroom.

You say no problem, then go on to explain the problem…

shamble · 17/04/2025 21:23

Idontjetwash we crossposted. I would’ve liked him to have gone in the bathroom he got the toilet roll out of. There’s something about going out of his way to shit in someone’s brand new unused toilet that I find…weird and contemptuous?

The "chain" was what was used to flush those old khazis with the tank up near the ceiling.....

(Cross-posted with earlier explanation)

Idontjetwashthefucker · 17/04/2025 21:23

@PlumFairies skids apparently

Old fashioned loos had a cistern that was up high on the wall, and you flushed by pulling a long chain.
‘Pull the chain’ was synonymous with ‘flush the loo’, but politer because you didn’t refer to the loo at all 🤣

This happened to us during building work - shite around the bowl seat etc of a brand new never used bathroom. Didn’t flush.

The other workers were happy with the old bathroom.

I think he did it to show contempt or jealousy or even hate as you say, something like that anyway.

Maybe he just needed a shite

How do you know he had a poo? What evidence was there?

Darkclothes crikey that’s rank.

idontjetwash it says it in the OP

i get that workmen are humans with bodily functions. I just don’t get the effort required to fetch a toilet roll and take it up to the new toilet in an empty house. I find it bizarre behaviour. Clearly I’m in a minority 🤷‍♀️

Yes, i acknowledged that in my next post.

Where would you like him to have gone?

Oh goody, another workman/toilet post...must've been a week since we had one

That long?

HundredPercentUnsure · 17/04/2025 21:20

Portaloos. Don't have builders for any length of time without one!

He left skid marks in a brand new loo?! I’d actually be so upset!

Where does it say that?

GettingMySpringOn · 17/04/2025 21:12

You do know builders are humans and need to use the toilet, like wise for plumbers, carpenters, mechanics, electricians and whoever else.
As long as it's cleaned so what.
I would be annoyed if a mess left.

When we had renovations they offered to have a portaloo on the drive. There were 5 men.
I said no we have a toilet! Always made sure there was plenty of loo roll and toilet cleaner in there.

arcticpandas · 17/04/2025 21:09

Maybe he wanted to try out the installations to see that everything worked as it should ? Just a question : how do you know he used it; skid marks/odeur/he didn't flush?
