I know I’m a bit late with this one but has anyone else seen it recently?? I’m gobsmacked!

Yuk - selfish, stupid, dogmatic people setting up huge problems for their poor offspring in the future.

I didn't see these children doing anything that most well-supported children don't do with their families. It was very telling when SD asked the mum what she thought the eldest child was learning when playing in the woods (to justify their very alternative attitude to education, I mean). she was only able to say 'Well, he's learning about himself'. OK.

I was a Forest School leader and I've brought my children up to experience nature as fully as possible. I was also a school teacher and agree that conventional schooling is far from ideal - especially since the National Curriculum and SATS! So I understand that some people feel it can be deadening for children's spirits.

But children need to be educated if they're going to live in 21st century Britain. And they need friends and common experiences (ie school!) to help them connect with their peers. Whatever the reservations about schools, I think it's misguided to deny this almost universal experience to your children. Good grief - you can add as much value as you like out-of-school in terms of experiences in nature, or encounters with culture - art, music, literature, dance etc etc.

I really felt for those trapped children. I couldn't help thinking the whole set up was more to do with their parents' needs than theirs. I've encountered parents before who preferred to keep their children away from school because THEY wanted them around.

I don't know, is that really doable? I think with no rules there wouldn't be any boundaries and that would be a problem.

I think the issue is that everyone except the parents could see the problem.

The girl was on this morning with her parents and weed on the rug
Her parents just sat on the sofa with those gormless smiles and didn't even stand up
I can't do links as I'm useless at tech,but it's on YouTube

That was some years ago - they're still dining out on this?

Did anybody watch the one about young Japanese women earning money with middle aged men? The height of sleaze. I could not bear to watch it but caught some of it. Stacey Dooley covers many interesting topics.

I turned it off, because it was so sleazy. The men in the cafe chatting to teenagers. Yuk!

Anrom19 · 17/04/2025 19:19

Wow , this was a shocking watch . I really wanted to like them and their aspirations but I just think they’ve let their children down so badly .

Wildflowers99 · 17/04/2025 17:23

Do you mean not working? He’s just lazy. If the idealist utopia he said he wants actually happens, he’ll be expected to pitch in proportionately, not just do a few hours of yoga a week. I’m disappointed but not surprised they’ve found a way to continue to claim benefits yet swerve the obligation to job search.

The father really boiled my piss. Can't believe someone can go on TV, say they're essentially taking the piss and there's no repercussions. What a joke.

Bobbieiris · 17/04/2025 14:37

Yeah it really is mad, but on a selfish point of view I don’t think I would want my life to revolve totally around my children (I’m new to being a mum and love my twins!) I would want to go to work or pop to a toddler group to talk to others and have a couple of date nights now and again….i couldn’t live like them
i have a family member who is a little similar with her children…no school/ education, friends or hobbies and clubs and it makes me sad.

dottydodah · 17/04/2025 14:02

I watched this a while ago.The parents seemed to me just not to care too much. Home Schooling is good when practised well ,however these just seemed disconnected somehow.I know children who are home schooled and they are fine .SD kept her cool and even manged too sleep in a wonky Bunk Bed!

herbalteabag · 17/04/2025 13:46

I saw it recently, I thought it was shocking and very sad that the older boy couldn't read and was barely doing anything. Reading was one of my greatest pleasures as a child and being able to read expands your view on the world and your knowledge. They are just forcing their ideology onto their children in my opinion, and are more controlling than conventional parents in that their children are only exposed to things that the parents allow them to experience. Most young children don't know what's available to them unless they are introduced to it, so how can they make decisions that will make them happy?

As far as I can gather from their Facebook posts the son spends his time gaming. The mother claims that she is his full time carer as he has autism. The daughters seem to be doing well. You can find them on Facebook.

Edited

Well that was all entirely predictable wasn’t it? I even predicted this upthread. I really feel for those kids, they’ve been so badly let down. Glad to hear the daughter is ok.

They are probably claiming DLA which switches off work commitments.

Well there we go, they figured out a way not to work (like we always knew they would!)

I saw this a few months ago and googled them. The oldest child has since been diagnosed with ASD I believe.

I would really like to know how they are getting on under the new UC rules. The dad got away with his part time teaching under WTC but he won't be considered gainfully self employed as far as UC are concerned.

Then I’m sure their new way forward financially is DLA and carers 🤷🏻‍♀️

The mum on this was just so ‘woo’ and seemed totally spaced out I thought! Dad was a lazy, work-shy tosser!

The neglect was high…house was a tip, nutrition was low, children were dirty and unkempt. Honestly gave me the rage!

I almost choked on my coffee when mum said she wanted to go travelling with the children when they were a bit older, with NO vaccinations (and NO way to fund this ‘adventure’!!). How the hell is she expecting this to pan out?? 😱🤯🤦‍♀️

I agree that the boy seemed utterly bored, but he also seemed more than a bit strange to me…the way he crouched in a corner with his bowl of weird food, and ate like a wild animal, and was unable to communicate at even a basic level. Could be that he just was poorly socialised of course (in fact probably this to be fair). However…it was very clear that this environment did not suit him, and if there IS a SEND issue, he won’t get any kind of support from his crazy woo parents!

I really hope someone from social services was watching this!

I think they were expecting the government to fund it all. I am sure I remember they said they claimed tax credits etc.

Is this the couple from East Sussex? They might have had another child. Child-led parenting rings a bell…

I watched this when it came out and couldn't believe what I was watching
Gormless,lazy and useless
Stacy d was fab-much better than I would have been!

SleepQuest33 · 17/04/2025 13:19
