Weird thoughts other people must think...

Surely everyone has a fleeting thought of the bath falling through the ceiling whilst they're in it?

Does anyone else have this thought?

And other recurring little thoughts people have that other people must also think?

Sorry @overtothere that’s so awful.

I often think of a lot of these things. One other is when I’m on the Tube and have to hold the handrail, I wonder if my hand will get stuck because someone has put superglue on it. This actually did happen to DH once. Not on the Tube but on a door handle. Luckily he let go quickly.

I also occasionally think about how many people in the world are doing exactly the same thing as me at exactly the same moment.

90swildchild · 15/04/2025 22:22

Also if I'm home alone and in the shower that someone will have broken in and I won't have heard them and they'll just appear as I open the shower door

Loloj · 15/04/2025 22:22

Whenever I hear a plane or helicopter flying quite low overhead whist I’m in the house I panic that it is going to crash into our house. Same at work which is worse as we must be near an RAF base and they always fly super low - they literally sound like they are coming crashing down. My heart races every time.

90swildchild · 15/04/2025 22:21

Yes the bath one.. plus going to the loo in the night and thinking what if I'm still sleeping and didn't actually get up and out of bed.. Another one is driving alongside a HGV on a dual carriageway or roundabout that it will tip over on top of my car. Driving over a bridge I imagine it might collapse with me on it.

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 15/04/2025 22:21

Another ceiling one here.

Our main bedroom is a loft conversion with a sloping ceiling over my side of the bed. Several summers ago, I kept hearing this strange scratching, rustling sound behind the plasterboard. It turned out wasps had got under a tile, made a nest and the noise I could hear was all the overnight activity of the hundreds of buggers - a couple of feet above my head!

Unfortunately, the exterminator man who came to sort it out mentioned he’d had a client where a similar thing had happened, except the wasps ate through the insulation and the whole nest landed on their bed. Cue instant furniture rearrangement in the bedroom and I still have to press my ear against the ceiling to check for activity!

And my particular random thought is; how do blind people pick up their guide dog’s poo and if they don’t, how do they avoid stepping it it - or are guide dogs trained to go somewhere discreet?

Sending huge sympathies to the lady whose son was run over.

Many of you people have weird bathroom obsessions.

I am often nervous about whether a bus, truck or car might drive into me / us. For visualisation though, whenever I get a minor itch I worry that I have lice, fleas, bum worms, scabies etc... then that thought makes me itch and I have to consciously calm down. It never is, but that doesn't stop me thinking it again.

thaegumathteth · 15/04/2025 22:21

Loads . Whenever I’m somewhere high I think what if I just suddenly throw my phone off or drive off the edge of a bridge etc etc.

Years ago I read a thing about imagine you have a paperclip. You have 24 hours to hide it in your house. It must be recoverable. A detective has 24 hours to find it. If they don’t find it then you win a million pounds. I spend an inordinate amount of time considering where I would hide a non existent paperclip.

I always worry that there'll be a fire alarm when I'm in the hairdressers and I'll be out in the street with my foils on and my colour going funny.

That’s happened to me once

My son was run over and it took the driver a few minutes to drive back off his body. Now every time I go over a crossing I think it's going to happen again. The especially annoying thing is that I've been nervous crossing the road his whole life because a friend of a friend lost their toddler when my son was a newborn. To actually have my fear realised years later hasn't been good. The fact both of these incidents happened on a proper crossing makes it even worse.

This is gutting. I’m so sorry

I always think about how I’d click my fingers if I had magic powers, and all my housework would be done. I’ll also be showered, groomed and ready for the day.

my other one is if I again had magic powers and could make time stop. I’d shoplift clothes

I thought I was the only one who worried about the bath falling through the ceiling!

Jellyjellyonaplate · 15/04/2025 21:54

Oh also I have recurrent thoughts about where I'd hide a dead body if I killed someone. I am about as far from being a murderer as you can get but the thought pops unwanted into my head especially when driving alone
Urgh!

OMG !!! I do this as well. I honestly thought I was the only one. I actually use it as a problem solving exercise to help me drop off to sleep....how I would remove a body from the house and where I'd bury it. In my imaginary scenario I've usually killed a burglar in self defence.

I've never killed anyone and I'm not a psychopath, honestly!!!

When I'm in a lift , I always panic that I will get stuck and plan where I can pee

If I walk past a fence with any pointy bits (like a wrought iron one) or a nail sticking out of something, I think I will trip and impale my eyeball on it. Even if it’s 8ft in the air.

LightDrizzle · 15/04/2025 22:08

As a child I had to be back in my bed with the duvet over me before the sound of the toilet flush died away or something (unknown) would happen.

Haven't read all replies and this is perhaps not the same but when I load dishwasher I always think the knifes are going to drop onto my foot and stab me

My Dad has to put the cutlery upside down as he worries they will "go up (his) fingernails and into his veins"...

This happened near when I live on a playground slide. Luckily no one was hurt but I think about what could have happened. Makes me shudder.

What? A children's slide? People are evil 😥

Yes the bath one!! Thought it was just me!

I also think this sometimes about the bath. I attribute it to seeing it happen in a film called 'The money pit'.

I have a few of these. Getting a papercut on my eyeball. No idea what scenario would lead to that happening but still something I think about.

Since I dislocated my knee I often think of being able to grab the knee cap of my other knee and pull it off. It makes me wince a bit but I think it's because the dislocated knee has never felt right since it happened so I think about damaging the other to balance things up a bit.

I also think about various disasters happening when I'm at work (natural or terrorist) and how I would get to safety.

Whenever my son scoots home from school I can see him falling into the road and his head going under a car tyre. Scares me witless and I have to try really hard to not let my anxieties be known to him.

When I’m at the beach I often look at the sand / pebbles / shells and think how lucky they are to be the very tiny percentage that’s ended up out of the water compared to the vast amount that are under the sea.

I also do the bath one 😂.

I live on my own and a few weeks ago I almost choked on a tiny tablet that got stuck in my throat. Luckily it cleared but my backup plan is getting to the house over the road where he’s a sports coach as I figure he must know first aid!!

Was proper terrifying though!! While choking I wondered how long before anyone realised something was wrong and how embarrassing to die like that….

I’ve called the police nicely on an old neighbour as in elderly because we hadn’t seen him for some time. Got to about a week 😬
