Bumcheeks fully on show at family attraction

Today I was at a local attraction aimed at young families. It's an outdoor attraction with a zoo, a few tame rides, a soft play, that sort of thing. Aimed at kids under 10.

There were two teenage girls there, probably about 16, didn't appear to be with anyone else, who were wondering around looking at the animals. One of them had on the shortest "skirt" imaginable. When I say bum cheeks were on show, I don't just mean a peek or a little glimpse. I mean the "skirt" ended almost at the top of her arse. It's truly was like a belt. Not only that but she was wearing a thong and fishnet tights. You could see her entire bum, and things were only just decent around the front.
She and her friend must have noticed quite a few shocked glances and maybe whispered comments because her friend said loudly "well that's THEIR problem isn't it"

Is it? AIBU to think its entirely inappropriate?

You won't believe me, but it was even shorter.

I've drawn it on in black.

Ewww that's a belt not a skirt surely!

this clearly indicates that you assume those who think this young girls attire is fine would be unhappy with the same girl being our sons GF.

Again you're projecting..
it indicates nothing...it's just the way you've read something into it..

I didn't have any thoughts..
It's a simple genuine question.

You are lying.

but for what it’s worth, it is no business of mine what my sons girlfriend wears.

MoominMai · 16/04/2025 15:01

To think there was a time not so long ago, when the flashing of an ankle (innocent or otherwise) was considered scandalous! 😅

CiaoMeow · 16/04/2025 14:59

I'm all for people wearing what they want but think we have to accept that choices have consequences. No, women shouldn't change their clothes preference because of men, but you have to accept that if you go out showing your bum off, they will ogle and perv at you and view you as a sex object. That's the reality, as unpalatable as it is.

Are you going to share what was on your mind? Your question was

“Genuinely like to know if the reactions would be the same from those posting that think it's fine if this young girl was stood in front of you next to your son being introduced as his new GF.
Edited....to add... also stood in front of you with your daughter and introduced as her new GF.”

Why do you think we’d be unhappy?

Because I’m vocalising what I think you’re suggesting.

and you still haven't clarified why you expect me to be unhappy with my sons girlfriends clothes?

No you're projecting...and shouldn't judge others by you own standards..
You're entitled to your own thoughts, but they're just that....yours

If I'd of wanted to use such an insulting word I would have written it...so clearly it wasn't even on my mind.

Enthusiasticcarrotgrower · 16/04/2025 14:37

It’s not a family friendly outfit at what should be a family friendly venue. It’s breaking social codes. But they’re teenagers: pushing the boundaries of social codes is what they do.

BoldRed · 16/04/2025 14:35

They should rename this site Thongsnet. There’s one of these ridiculous threads almost every bloody day.

What make you insinuate that she is "such a slag" just by her clothing.

This.

They do it knowing people will look and stare and be shocked because that’s exactly what they want so they can do their whole innocent “that’s their problem” speech.

I’m 100% on the side of wear what you want. But I’m also on the side of knowing if you go to a zoo with your arse hanging out people will look and that that is exactly why they do it.

It’s the never ending circle of no winners!

Yup. I know someone who years before it was fashionable had tattoos done on his face.

Then complained he felt self-conscious in public because people were looking at him.

Trumptonagain · 16/04/2025 14:29

AquaPeer · 16/04/2025 14:11

Why? Do you think I should be horrified my son is going out with such a slag?

Meh, teens have been trying to shock with their fashion sense since the dawn of time.

I shudder when I think of half the shit I wore in the 90s.

I honestly wouldn't have given then a second glance.

"no I wouldn't mind" would have done as a reply...

I want to know why you think anyone would mind.

you appear to be indicating (or just straight out suggesting) that such a young woman would be an unsuitable girlfriend for my precious son because on her clothing. Why?

Trumptonagain · 16/04/2025 14:21

AquaPeer · 16/04/2025 14:16

I didn’t call her a slag. I asked why you think I would care about my sons girlfriends clothes.

namechangenelly1 · 16/04/2025 14:07

Meeh. I used to have my tits on show all the time when I was a teenager, boobs were in fashion then. Now bums are in fashion.

SallyWD · 16/04/2025 14:02

It's gross. Really inappropriate and it's only girls who expose themselves like this. You don't see teenage boys exposing their bare arses - just a few boys exposing their pants and everyone complains about that! With girls, we're just meant to accept indecent clothes.

Just googled.
Like this OP?

Theres even shorter for sale on Amazon. Ones called lingerie and the other sexy!
Horrible !

The one I saw didn't have that much coverage and wasn't wearing such voluminous pants 🤢

I find as a pear shape that I have to be careful about front length vs back length over the glutemus maximus. She had greater issues with that than me and was certainly no Sabrina Carpenter. I'll grant her points for body confidence, but zero for decency.

In hot weather I'll run in sports bra and fairly short shorts, but all essentials are securely covered which is very different.

I don't think it's a co-incidence that in the nearly 60 years that mini-skirts have been around, that it's only now in an era of only fans and other dodgy content being so easily avaliable that skirts have totally given up the job of even pretending to cover up private anatomy. And they aren't choosing pants styles to mind the gaps either.

Please let this fashion pass quicker than a shell suit near a naked flame!

ViciousCurrentBun · 16/04/2025 13:43

I remember dancing in hot pants and a wonder bra on stage at the biggest gay night club in Birmingham back in the early nineties. Anyone remember its name? Would never have dreamt of wandering about at a family attraction or going to a funeral @Dreamerinme I think that’s very much the difference now.

Societal standards have changed/declined (delete whichever way your belief lies) in many ways for the past few decades and your example is one of them. Whereas most people would save the skimpy clothes for the nightclub/parties some see it as everyday clothing. Most people understand that there is attire that you wear for different occasions - weddings, christenings, funerals, black tie events, work conference, job interviews, office clothing etc.

Funny how in Style & Beauty forum the wedding guest threads salivate with ‘that’s not suitable for a spring wedding/too casual/looks awful’ etc, but a teen turns up to a family event barely wearing clothing and so many think that’s fine. It’s sad that some teens are so attention-seeking and have little self-worth that the only way they can think of is to wear as little clothing as possible.

There was a thread on here a few years ago of some teen girls who came to a funeral in skimpy clothes that barely covered their bottoms and how some mourners found it offensive. So many replies were of the ‘aww how were they to know what to wear to a funeral.’ Considering most teens are attached to their phones did they not have the common sense to Google ‘what to wear to a funeral,’ and why did their parents give no guidance to appropriate attire for a solemn and heart-breaking occasion? A funeral is not the time or place to have your arse on show.

Its being quite a few decades. My mum remembers clearly walking down Oxford Street age 18 in a see through dress( deliberately so) that was incredibly short. wearing nothing but knickers underneath. She's 82!
