To report this as benefit fraud

A relative is claiming benefits, can’t work due to health but is one of those who is always complaining about something wrong with her but is always able to do the things she wants to do. Can holiday abroad, always down the gym, etc. When she was working she was always making complaints against employers- one of life’s victims.

She sold a property a couple of years ago and has squirrelled about £40k away through investments. I think has got her mother to do this for her.

I’m so fed up of seeing people like her take the piss. I 100% support a welfare system and it really pisses me off to see it abused like this. And meanwhile we are working our arses off and not able to afford the foreign travel and gym memberships.

I’m so tempted to report her secret savings to DWP.

It's always a good time to make yourself feel better by makng someone else feel worse isn't it OP? Fill your boots. Why not post your assumptions on your local Facebook page so that everyone can join in?

Going to the gym and on a foreign holiday isn't the same as being able to hold down a job. You saying she was always making complaints against employers is a sign that she cannot manage in employment.
How do you know about all these savings and investments? How do you know they didn't pay of debt or aren't being declared? You THINK it went through her mum, which suggests you don't actually know anything.

Well maybe welfare reform will help to weed out lazy scroungers. But I don't hold out that much hope.

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 16/04/2025 08:53

There’s nothing in my posts saying I agree with benefit fraud. I don’t sit around complaining about the state of the country.

Hastentoadd · 16/04/2025 01:13

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 16/04/2025 00:51

And the millions unclaimed ?

The post isn’t about the people who don’t claim benefits that they are entitled to it’s about the people who fraudulently claim benefits that they are not entitled to, don’t try to deviate

HelloPossible · 16/04/2025 00:53

So people still don’t understand that disability benefits are not means tested and that you need medical evidence to claim? So the fact someone goes to the gym and has savings is no basis to claim fraud whatsoever.

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 16/04/2025 00:51

And the millions unclaimed ?

Hastentoadd · 16/04/2025 00:47

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 16/04/2025 00:41

I didn’t say ignore benefit fraud - I said ignore her. She doesn’t know for sure there’s fraud ? No one knows the full ins and outs of other people’s lives - and seriously, would you want that life ?
And the unclaimed benefit that goes back to the govt ?? You ignoring that? Because I can assure you when I say millions - that’s from
hospital patients alone, in one Scottish city.

Edited

If you suspect benefit fraud you should report it, you don’t need to be 100% sure of the facts as there would be no reporting of any suspect fraud if that was the case,

As I said previously there would be an investigation and it would then be determined whether the claimant was deserving or not

Hastentoadd · 16/04/2025 00:42

ALL suspect benefit fraud should be reported, Ignoring possible benefit fraud is contributing to the state the country is in at the moment

All of these little actions contribute to a better function country which is to everyone’s benefit, Ignoring / condoning benefit fraud is contributing to a whole host of other issues that have a knock on effect on everyone.

Why should spongers be allowed to get away with it, and again I’m most certainly not referring to genuine benefit claimants who are deserving it

Yet again another person who agrees with ignoring benefit fraud, it’s no wonder the country is in the state that it is in ……too many people taking when they could be contributing….with attitudes like this you can hardly be surprised the country is in a s..t state,
So many people not working for no reason when they could actually be contributing and yet it’s often people with attitudes similar to yours that sit around complaining about the state the country is in…..astounding🤷‍♂️🤷

Ignoring benefit fraud is contributing to the overall problem….can you not see this?

No, never okay to do that. Why do you want to be the Stasi? Cos there's no other reason to think like that. If you're determined, please can you sort out Amazon paying taxes, then after that we can chat. Thanks

So you think people who report possible benefit fraud are ‘Stasi’ but actual benefit fraudsters are fine…..your attitude is just mind boggling 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Can you explain you are so in favour of people not reporting possible benefit fraud, what have you got to gain from this kind of behaviour / mentality?

I would.
Bloody hate freeloaders.

Same, can stand them, they are a complete drain on society
And no, before anyone comes for me, I’m most definitely NOT referring to genuine claimants who are deserving of it

Not read the whole thread so sorry if this has already been said.
There is millions - MILLIONS - of pounds of unclaimed benefits yearly in the city I live in - it all goes back to the govt: and that’s just one city (albeit quite big). Fine we can’t all diddle the system, but leave people to their own devices - if they get caught it’s their problem: ignore them - live your own life.

Well how is reporting her going to improve your personal tax situation ?
She is allowed to go on foreign holidays and she is allowed to go to the gym.
It does sound as if you don’t really know what’s going on in her life. You are just speculating. So just stay out of it and focus on your own life.

Comments like that are yet again part of the overall problem, so someone who suspects benefit fraud should just ‘stay out of it’ and let them possibly get away with it……With attitudes like that no wonder so many people are getting away with it……ridiculous mentality 🤷‍♂️

Why are you so in favour of encouraging people to ignore possible fraud? What have you to gain from that behaviour?

HelloPossible · 15/04/2025 23:30

So it is obvious some here are unaware of things like hidden disabilities, that disability benefits are not dependent on your savings or income but on the expense of being disabled and that all claims have to be backed up by medical evidence to have any chance of being successful.

In truth unless you have medical equipment at home or severe mental health problems like addiction/ suicidal tendencies with medical evidence to support it you are likely to get nothing from the state. Some people don’t know their friends and relatives very well and see going to the gym or a social life as proof these people have nothing wrong with them.

Millyjanice · 15/04/2025 23:21

ClareClareClareClare · 15/04/2025 16:40

A reliable source? Don't make me laugh! Jealousy makes people rather less reliable!

read the post from beesandstrawberries at 22.00!
People being annoyed at obvious benefit fraud is jealousy in your opinion…..give me patience🤷‍♂️

Hastentoadd · 15/04/2025 23:08

Almost18 · 15/04/2025 23:03

And even if you do know her you wouldn't necessarily know either. That is why they are called 'hidden disabilities'.

The person who made the initial comment on the case that I was referring to knew the woman well and confirmed that there was absolutely nothing wrong with her!

Hastentoadd · 15/04/2025 23:03

We can agree to disagree then as I can see that someone with your mentality is part of the overall problem🤷‍♂️

Yes, we will. If being a decent human being makes me part of the problem, I'll be part of the problem. While you can continue to pat yourself on the back for being petty, ignorant, jealous and vindictive. Well done.

Hastentoadd · 15/04/2025 23:05

Do you know her? No? In that case you have no idea if she is physically or mentally unwell.

You don’t know that

Do you seriously honestly think that? Do you think that the DWP’s infrastructure has ANY capability of flexing in that way? What a totally bizarre world view! Please please read more widely. Read the governmental structures around measuring social care claims. If you honestly think that an entire behemoth of a government department can account for and divert the microscopic (relative to the total budget) amounts of fraud and miscalculation, you’ve seriously got no idea how any of this works.
