What threads do you always hide?

If any!

If I scroll through and see anyone ask about accountancy help, HMRC advice, tax return, accounts etc I just hide them. I can't stand seeing 90% of the "advice" on those threads being absolute bollocks.

I used to hide the divorce ones when I was going through mine, I didn't want extra headspace going into it.

People actually have said they hate Private school threads. And no, the thread hasn't been derailed by Private school parents. Or RF regulars.

There's only one group who've piled on, derailing the thread.🤷‍♀️

You can’t control what other people post, whether you started the thread or not.

Discussion digresses, goes off on tangents etc etc and your examples aren’t what’s happening here. If someone posted ‘I hide the thread on rich privileged arseholes who hate poor people’ when they actually mean ‘Private schooling’ you can be assured that those who don’t actually hate poor people they just want their kid to go to a private school might have something to say, have a bit of push back and the workings as to why people lazily say that.

Is it light hearted. I say it’s just another excuse for a thread to slag something off. Like the unpopular opinions threads that rear its head every so often.

It's not about controlling what people post. I can't stop you. Doesn't mean any of you derailing this thread aren't being ridiculous and rude.

Just because someone can reply doesn't mean they should.

We don't talk about abortion on the pregnancy loss threads, we don't talk about being white on the black mumsnetter threads, we don't talk about spending thousands on holidays on threads where someone's asking how to get of debt.

There are different topics on Mumsnet because it's generally understood that things work much better if topics are separated.

This light-hearted thread is being derailed because nobody (on both sides!!) doing the derailing is grown up enough to just either stop replying or to realise that you can't always change someone else's opinion and rise above whatever you disagree with.

It’s a public discussion forum and people can reply to posts as they see fit. Especially what they see as nonsensical posts. Which is what’s happening here. It’s not a difficult concept to understand. How about you stick to the thread topic if you’re so bothered about it.

The private school threads are a bit hilarious at times. But easier to leave the woe is us to wallow in it together. Tone deaf to their privilege.

BrilliantBrilliant · 17/04/2025 09:19

Gaza ones. The anti semitism on those is awful.

On the evidence of this thread, I’m feeling pretty comfortable with my decision to hide trans discussions!

Same. Now I found the functionality. Came in very useful yesterday!

It was inevitable. As soon as I saw this thread title I thought to myself 'someone is going to say they hide Trans threads and the thread will be completely de-railed by the usual posters repeatedly shouting TRANS WOMEN ARE MEN and calling anyone who disagrees, or even anyone who doesn't disagree but thinks it's possible to have a more nuanced conversation around gender, "hard of thinking" or a "Handmaid".

If anything, this thread has confirmed my view that hiding Trans threads (along with Royal Family threads and anything featuring the words "woke" or "snowflake") is an act of self care.

The “handmaid” insult really makes me laugh. Feminists using gendered insults to shut women up (especially a term heavily coded for sexual slavery) is quite something!

I also completely ignore (here and in real life) anybody using the term “woke” unironically.

YouFetidMoppet · 17/04/2025 08:49

Oh and the sycophantic threads about Trump and Musk. Bonkers.

Tandora · 17/04/2025 08:43

Same . The inheritance threads are fascinating. There’s a reason why the plots of so many works of literature centre around inheritance.

People are often motivated by greed and resentment. It's played out in literature and on here.

YouFetidMoppet · 17/04/2025 08:48

I dont hide, just ignore largely unless its massively pissing me off.

Anything about gender and biological sex, even threads where someone has managed to make a point about it on an unrelated thread. Just not interested.

Benefit and disability bashing ones, especially the horrid ones about six year olds with severe SEN being badly managed in schools being blamed for their behaviour. When the problem is a lack of school places and reasonable adjustments.

Parent bashing ones when people have not even met them or set foot in their home and makes judgements based on a quick interaction by the OP.

The private school ones. Jesus when will they end? I dislike Rachel Reeves too and don't think she's making good choices, but don't be so fucking misogynistic.

Blatant troll and bot threads.

oooh I love a good inheritance thread! Maybe because it's something I know very little about. It's always amazing to see the ways in which people (both legators and legatees) lose their minds slightly when it comes to dividing up the family money. And there are so many ways to piss people off. Throw in blended families, entitled grandchildren and a long-lost cousin, and you've got everything you need for drama.

What is the more nuanced conversation we need to have around why men should get access to women's sports, services and spaces? Genuine question.

Trans women are men. It’s just simple fact. You seem more bothered than the women who know this 😂. ‘A more nuanced discussion’. Women don’t want men in certain spaces and sports, the end. There’s your discussion.

  • one poster comes on late in the piece and decides to take issue with everything that's been said so far by spamming the thread with new quote posts

^^I posted that (in response to the OP) a couple of days ago and look where we are now Grin

Absolutely nutty bongo.

I am responding to the thread topic as well. I doubt if the behaviour of some posters on this thread will encourage people to visit FWR though. We'll have to politely agree to disagree, in my opinion.

It's not naivety, it's deliberate so as to help perpetuate the myth (to people who aren't familiar with the actual issues) that GC = anti-trans.

It’s naive to think GC people are going to put up with being called anti-trans with nothing to back to back it up.
