To stop going to a yoga class because they’re proposing changing the time? (With backstory)

Posting here for some perspective. Since March, I’ve been going to a Monday evening yoga class at 6:30pm. I’ve been consistent and found it helpful to wind down after the start of the week.

However, I recently got an email from the studio saying they’re thinking of moving the class to 7:30pm and asking for thoughts. On its own, it’s not a massive shift but it got me thinking.

Here’s the backstory (bear with me):
Last year, I used to go to a Tuesday class with a teacher I really liked. After a few months, another teacher (B) took over without any clear announcement. I reached out politely to ask if the change was permanent and got a vague reply. I then emailed again to ask about possible private sessions with the original teacher (A) and B never replied. I followed up once, still no reply. So eventually I sent a short, respectful message calling it out as discourteous and marked it as done - I wasn’t interested in any further interaction.

Fast-forward three months, A reached out of the blue to say hi and let me know she was teaching a new class. I didn’t reply because I’d already decided to move on. I’ve since been going to a Monday class with a completely different teacher (C), who I have no issue with.

Now they’re thinking of changing the class time, I’m wondering if it’s just time to let it go entirely. I’ve been questioning whether I’m going out of routine more than real desire and the whole studio has lingering associations that feel a bit off - even if the class itself is fine.

So… AIBU to just bow out now, even though the class hasn’t officially changed yet? Or does that seem overly dramatic/petty? I’m not upset - just unsure if I’m walking away from something that’s still fine or making the call at the right time.

Sorry, OP, but no one cares.

minnienono · 13/04/2025 15:20

Completely overthinking this. Centres run classes, sometimes teachers quit with little or no notice and they find a replacement so that clients are not left without a teacher. Sometimes teachers move class times because attendance is low.

EffortlesslyInelegant · 13/04/2025 15:20

I think you should at the very least confront D and ask her what the actual holy fuck she's doing conspiring with E, F and G who, as she should know, are no better than they ought to be.
I predict tears before bedtime and not least of all mine for the time lost reading your OP.

Is your issue that this particular yoga studio doesn't appear to prioritise consistency? Perhaps you could ask one of the others in your class if this is the case more broadly or if you've just been unlucky?

NeverHadHaveHas · 13/04/2025 15:20

You are overthinking this to a fairly extreme degree. Seriously, how do you have this much time on your hands to dedicate so much thought to a yoga class? Pick up a book or something 🤷‍♀️

Cosyblankets · 13/04/2025 15:17

You don't need anyone to give you permission or approval as to how you spend your money and time.
Don't give it another thought

She’s only been going there for 1 month…

Did you read the post? She’s not been going there for 1 month. She’s been going to her current class since March, and has been going to the same studio at least since last year. Where did you get one month from?

Growlybear83 · 13/04/2025 15:16

I don’t really understand the issue. If a move from 6.30 to 7.30 doesn’t suit you, then don’t go and find another class that does fit in with your life.

Sorry, I wasn't clear, I meant more generally going to yoga, rather than this specific session

outerspacepotato · 13/04/2025 15:13

You're really overthinking this.

If the time works, go.

If the time doesn't work, don't go.

I have experienced a change in instructors completely changing a class but that was due to going from a fairly advanced level to an instructor who only taught beginner classes.

ZanyWriter · 13/04/2025 14:50

It doesn’t though. I sent a message back saying I really enjoy the classes and that personally 6.30 suits best

Edited

So it does then

I think I get it OP.

Are you wondering if you are going more out of habit, and this proposed change is the catalyst to question continuing at all?

Soonenough · 13/04/2025 15:09

Leave. They will be glad to see the back of you. Maybe yoga isn't the therapy you need as you seem massively overanxious.

gavisconismyfriend · 13/04/2025 15:06

Do you find change/thought of change disconcerting? I find that I am unsettled when I first hear of change/possible change and my initial feeling is that it won’t work for me. If I sit with it for a bit then I often realise it won’t be as difficult as I thought, so I try to avoid making any decisions until I’m feeling less bothered. Might not be true for you, just mentioning in case it resonates.

Lovemycat2023 · 13/04/2025 15:05

I agree that the teacher and their style makes a huge difference. At my studio they let us know if there is going to be cover, whether that’s shorter or longer term.

thepariscrimefiles · 13/04/2025 15:05

Isn't yoga supposed to make people chilled out and zen? It's obviously not working for OP.

What's wrong with wanting a bit of consistency and clear communication? I can understand why you're fed up. Is there a suitable alternative if you decide not to go back?

The yoga instructor C has clearly communicated and asked for comments before potentially making a change, they’ve done nothing wrong. How could they actually have communicated that better? A and B have nothing to do with Cs yoga class

notatinydancer · 13/04/2025 15:04

Blimey I wish this was all I had to (over) think about.

You sent an email to B chastising her for being discourteous by not responding to you, but when A emailed you to kindly let you know that she was teaching a new class, you ignored her message and didn't respond. How come B was rude but you weren't?

ChaChaChaChanges · 13/04/2025 15:02

Christ alive.

ISpyNoPlumPie · 13/04/2025 15:01

Oh @ZanyWriter… how do you get through the day?

Jojimoji · 13/04/2025 15:01

You messaged B to say they were
" discourteous" for not getting back to you after a query about classes with A .
A then gets back in touch with you about classes....... and you don't reply, because you've " moved on".

OK.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 13/04/2025 15:01

Why on earth does this need a 'back story ' ? Which is non existent really. You've been going for a month...so 4 times, 5 at most? Reply and say you'd rather stick with 1830. If the majority want to or are happy to change, they'll change. You then decide to keep going, or don't, and stop. No drama surely?!
