Best friend husband unfriended me on Facebook

To be offended that my best friends husband has unfriended me on Facebook. I only noticed by chance. Best friend says don’t take it personal ? But we have been best friends since 14, we are now both 54….they now live quite remotely about 5 hours away, so I don’t see her. I just find it odd behaviour. Should I care or even be bothered ?

The complete wankers are the ones who post:
”if you’re reading this then congratulations, you’ve survived my cull.” Followed by loads of comments from sycophants saying “oh yay, I’m so happy I’m your friend” <cringe>. Actually that’s another reason to unfriend people.

Well that I definitely agree with! But it kind of proves my point, doesn’t it? People hitting the delete button are usually doing so out of self-importance.

Yeah this.

Have you recently posted something that's quite "marmite" and he's not in the same camp as your way of thinking?

I just deleted a school friend of 30yrs after she's started daily postings about Trump.

No I don’t post about politics no interest.

He is more political than me,

Maybe he finds your postings not to his taste or annoying or something.

Only complete wankers delete people who they haven’t actively fallen out with. It’s so “Look at meeeee! I’m far too important to just scroll past an update I don’t like! My time is just sooooprecious!”

So you are calling @Eastertidings a complete wanker for deleting people they no longer have contact with? They gave genuine reasons to delete people. If you don’t have contact with someone or no longer interested in what they’re up to why do we have to remain Facebook friends?

Or those who post “If you’ve been through cancer/mental health difficulties/<insert heinous disease of choice> copy and paste this to your status so that people know you care. I know only my true friends will post this, so I will be unfriending those who don’t.

I unfriend those as well…

Wouldratherbewatchingmafs · 12/04/2025 10:33

Delete FB, instagram, twitter (x!) And tiktok. You'll feel a lot better, I promise.

Crazybaby123 · 12/04/2025 10:31

I wouldn't take it personally, my husband unfriended everyone last yearbon face book apart from 3 people, including me 😂as he had some sort of social media and digital cleanse thing where he decided social media was a terrible thing and only wanted to use it to keepnin contaxt with three best friends who live on the other aide of the world.
I also have friends who won't go on facebook and never have.
If he is fine with you in real life thats all you need to know. There is no law that says you have to be on facebook.

Bernie54 · 12/04/2025 10:31

So just to respond to a few comments on here, I am probably one of the only friends my best friend has, and I’m treated like family.

I don’t post a lot, nor do I post about politics, transgender, race, cute kittens or what I’ve had for my tea.

No he doesn’t fancy me🤣 nor do I have a bikini bod…

No I’m not seeing them currently due to the distance but I will travel up in the Summer to see them.

My friend is being a bit cagey said he was going to delete his account but instead deleted some folk instead.

Yes I might be a tad dramatic, intense someone else called me? But what I am is straightforward and open. I just found it strange.

Sorry I can’t add more context it’s hard in a post.

Thanks for all the replies, including the good, the bad and the ugly 😊

Be glad you’re rid of him, OP. He sounds like an utter cockface.

Get over yourself
if you have no contact or interest just delete
says more about the deleted person if they kick off that screams attention as in how dare they

You’ve still got to actively decide to do it, though. It takes even less thought and effort not to do it.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 12/04/2025 10:19

Tbh, Facebook has become nearly unusable in the last few months. I have pages there for work and promotion and it's damn near impossible to see any posts from friends because of the endless pages of ads, posts from people I've never heard of let alone friended, and general random shit. I'm over there as little as possible now and only really post when I have something to promote.

Maybe he feels the same? It's pointless if you're only seeing posts from people you know when they are a week old, and even then they are lost among 'History of Lincoln' posts (I've never even been there) and 'Horses for Sale'.

Never2many · 12/04/2025 10:18

IMO there are several different types of unfrienders.

There are the ones who you never engage with, are there just in name, and who periodically cull their friend list based on the fact they never engage with these people.

Nothing wrong with that, and they’re just as likely to be in my cull as I am in theirs. And certainly I wouldn’t take offence.

Then there are the unfrienders who aren’t actually unfrienders, but who have decided to come off fb altogether but haven’t said anything.

And then there are those who actually are friends and who unfriend and you’re not sure why. And those are the ones you might think to question.

E.g. my DP’s brother was telling him recently how much they all love me, how much they really want to see me, and how we should both go and visit. And then about three weeks later I discovered he’d unfriended me on FB. I have no idea why. But in that instance it does make a statement IMO.

I have no intentions of asking why. I haven’t done anything to offend him, so it’s on him as to why. I won’t be making any effort to go and see him now or to engage with him though.

lazycats · 12/04/2025 10:18

YABU for still using and caring about Facebook. Have some self respect

Littlewasp · 12/04/2025 10:17

I'd unfriend her and forget about them both.

ThisProudBluePombear · 12/04/2025 10:15

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 12/04/2025 00:42

My husband often clears out Facebook and leaves WhatsApp chats. He seems to have no concern for what people might think, he only focuses on what he wants / or doesn't want to see in his newsfeed.

jeez, no need to make OP feel self conscious.

Tumbler2121 · 12/04/2025 10:09

She said unfriended, not blocked. Different.

Flytrap01 · 12/04/2025 10:01

i got the the whole added on facebook and blocked without any words, i could understand if they needed a break with the friendship but i wish they would of discussed it first so i could say thank you for the chats, and all the best etc

instead it was your blocked, and its like thanks.

so unless they fell in love with me im not sure why the block as that was my other theory based on a few factors and their body language when i did see them in person.

so certainly a puzzlement

Delphiniumandlupins · 12/04/2025 10:01

Either you and/or he use Facebook a lot but have few interests in common OR you and/or he use Facebook very little and he doesnt feel the need to communicate with you there. I imagine he has just tidied up and removed people he doesn't intrract with.

Tumbler2121 · 12/04/2025 10:00

How did you even know, I have lots of Facebook friends from ages ago that I wouldn't notice if they weren't friends any more .... were you just a bit too interested in what he was doing/saying?

cardibach · 12/04/2025 09:50

I deleted FB years ago because of stuff like this. Despite people saying ‘it’s only social media’ and then probably proceeding to use it as one of their main means of socialising these days, it does take thought and effort to delete people and there does have to be a motive behind it. I’m with you, op, it is unnerving.

the same happened to me once - my best friend’s dh deleted me. I asked her why, she gave a shifty answer back, turned out she was having major jealousy issues due to problems in their marriage and she didn’t like him being friends with me as well as a few others. I think he actually ‘refriended’ me a couple of years later.

Anyway, head fucks like that are some of the reasons I left!

Edited

What thought and effort does it take? Either you decide to do a full of people you don’t interact with and the. You just go down the list or you see a post from someone and decide you aren’t that interested anymore and then you click a couple of times and they are gone. It’s not a multi step complicated or time consuming task.

godmum56 · 12/04/2025 09:39

but its not the best friend its the husband......I mean get a grip!

KewTitles · 12/04/2025 09:26

cakeandteaandcake · 12/04/2025 07:31

You never have a clearout?

I’ve deleted people because I never see or speak to them, eg people I met on a friend’s hen do 15 years ago really didn’t still need to be on there.

What for, though? It’s not like Facebook has a maximum number of friends and I need to create space. It’s not like there’s a charge per friend. So why actively cut people out if I haven’t fallen out with them? Just because we’re not in regular contact, does that mean I should deliberately make sure I cannot contact them (or vice versa)?

For me, half the point of Facebook is that you can keep in more casual touch with people you might not see or hear from much otherwise (school friends, old colleagues etc.). I don’t see the point of keeping it to only close friends I see regularly - I know what they’re doing anyway.

Londonwaiting · 12/04/2025 09:22

I had a friend who did this. She just decided to clear up her Facebook friends by removing those she was not really in touch with anymore.

He perhaps did something similar. You are his wife’s friend after all, not his.

I really wouldn’t give it any more thought.

autisticbookworm · 12/04/2025 09:10

I only have my actual friends and family on Facebook so literally the people I’d invite to my wedding. I occasionally get rid of a few if we are no longer close. Maybe he was changing how he uses it?
