Best friend husband unfriended me on Facebook

To be offended that my best friends husband has unfriended me on Facebook. I only noticed by chance. Best friend says don’t take it personal ? But we have been best friends since 14, we are now both 54….they now live quite remotely about 5 hours away, so I don’t see her. I just find it odd behaviour. Should I care or even be bothered ?

They don’t see anyone in the real world including me since they moved. I don’t post politics or anything much in fact they post more than me, they are always on Facebook.

Are they ok, not seeing anyone and cutting off people they do know is worrying no? Was the wife talking with you like normal, was she cagey about anything else other than the husband and his unfriending?

This might be a stretch for your situation but my ex having initially friended loads of my friends on Facebook then went on to delete them all, made for some really awkward conversations as he couldn’t explain to me why he done it and I didn’t know when friends asked.

Turned out to be one of the many things he did to try and isolate me from my friends as it turned out he was a very controlling man. It was about making things awkward for me with this and other things.

Yes this is my suspicion too, and I know they don’t see anyone and haven’t since they moved there, apart from Xmas day.

Personally the only people who are on my FB are people I speak to in real life .your his wife's friend not his if your that upset ask him.

Ketzele · 13/04/2025 18:42

I got deleted by a family member of whom I'm fond, over some gender critical stuff. Only I'm not very attentive to SM and it took me about five years to notice. Still waiting to care Smile.

Come to think of it, there might be zillions of people I've offended and been blissfully ignorant. FB doesn't actually tell you you've been deleted, does it? How do you notice? I just gradually realised that I hadn't seen anything from a prolific poster for ages...

It’s Facebook not real life

Social media can be so fake, etc , etc ,
but how do you mean it’s not real ?
it’s not fictional either ! !

Elle2018 · 13/04/2025 18:26

If she was cagey could they be going through the process of splitting up and don’t feel ready to tell you yet?

It’s Facebook not real life

Of course it is. Quite a dangerous attitude to suggest that what happens on social media doesn’t have real life consequences.

My husband does this all the time. I think some men are just antisocial. It's a "Man quirk"...would not give it a second thought. It irritates me that my husband does it, but I'm wasting my breath getting on at him for it.

I can only tell you my experience, if someone posts to much rubbish on Facebook I block them or pictures of their tea or just bombarding with posts, could be that.

I don’t do that tbf he posts more than his wife 🤣

Hi op,

but if your best friend, his wife, tells you to not take it personally?

It is Facebook, he didn’t uninvited you from your summer visit. I wouldn’t bother. 👌

Pinepeak2434 · 13/04/2025 18:10

I didn’t think people still really used Facebook. Anyway I had a few school mums add me on Facebook then remove me once our children left the school- they obviously only wanted to be nosey, but then when they want to be nosey again try to re-add me but once someone removes me that’s it I’m afraid! My husband’s work colleague tried to add me onFacebook and I just ignored it as I had never even met him.

I once had someone contact me to demand to know what kind of fucking nerve I had to have unfriended her on facebook... which kind of illustrated exactly why I had unfriended.
Now I just put people on mute on social media and WhatsApp.... people are nuts!

ScattyGinger · 13/04/2025 18:01

Depends what you are posting. I unfriend friends that get so political (either side) that they get boring. Or if anyone is a chronic moaner or Debbie Downer. 🙈 Life is too short to put up with either when I'm scrolling.

Nah. Chill. There's loads more going on in the real world to be bothered about

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/04/2025 12:32

It’s a crime, @KewTitles - the FB police will be knocking down your door! 😉😉😉

KewTitles · 13/04/2025 09:25

So not liking everything everyone posts on Facebook makes me a shit friend?

Addictforanex · 13/04/2025 08:36

KewTitles · 12/04/2025 21:09

I don’t “go on about stalkers and lurkers” so your friend isn't like me atall. And does your friend know that’s what you think of him and say about him behind his back?

Bloody hell, I didn’t sleep with his wife!

Lol, you don’t have to shag someone’s wife to be a shit friend. But you have him on your FB so that’s the definition of friendship, right?

Nanof8 · 13/04/2025 01:49

Jumpingthruhoops · 12/04/2025 03:17

If that happened to me - which it may well have done - I'd come to the conclusion that person is not a real friend.

It's not so much that they are not a real friend. Maybe they post too often about things I'm not interested in, maybe they post too many jokes or quizzes, forward posts. It's my Facebook if I don't want to see certain things on my feed then I fix that. I don't have to agree with everything my friends post to be a real friend. I also don't have to agree with everything they do or say when I'm next to them, but I don't need to stand there and listen to them.

Ivymom · 12/04/2025 23:42

In my opinion, my personal Facebook is for my enjoyment. I set it up in a way that most contributes to my enjoyment. This includes unfollowing people, making it where only specific groups can see my posts and periodically unfriending people or blocking people. I prefer to only keep people on my friends list that I enjoy interacting with.

There are some people I keep on my friends list, but have unfollowed and blocked from seeing my posts. This is because they would cause a bunch of drama and kick up a fuss if I actually unfriended them. I regret friending them in the first place, but feel stuck with them.

I periodically go through my friends list and “clean out” people. Usually it is just people I don’t interact with anymore. There isn’t any drama about it. I don’t hate them. They haven’t offended me. Our lives have just taken different paths. If they resend a friend request, I usually accept and try to reconnect with them. If not, I don’t even think about it anymore.

OP is friends with the wife. She should just focus on that friendship. Maybe the husband only wants his closest friends and family on his social media. I honestly wouldn’t worry about it and would continue to focus on my friendship with the wife.

Thepossibility · 12/04/2025 22:32

I've had this for different reasons. One uncle unfriended me because he wanted to put memes up about family being the people you choose and all that bullshit because he falls out with people often (currently my DM) and loves fishing for attention, but doesn't want certain people to know he's bitching about them (like DM children). Another did because his wife was annoyed that people she knows and likes see the racist shit he posts so he unfriended us all.
Nothing personal to me.

Mine mine mine mine MINE!!! 😫

Well, precisely. I - and no one else - owes anyone a follow or an explanation, so they? It’s just a SM account.

KewTitles · 12/04/2025 21:10

CautiousLurker01 · 12/04/2025 20:06

Why not? What should I give a flying f*ck about who follows me or whether they may get tearful at not being able to see my dog photos?? Really?

It’s MY profile, My data being collated by Meta, viewed on MY device, in MY freetime and MY home. If people get upset ‘cos I am not bothered to follow them or share my holiday pics there, they are seriously unhinged.

Mine mine mine mine MINE!!! 😫
