To want a North Face puffer?

I know we're now into spring but I've have seen a couple of young women wearing brightly-coloured NF puffer jackets this week (the one with a black strip at the top of the back, if you know what I mean). Not sure I can afford/justify one, but they give off a really cool vibe to me.

What everyone else said. Plus when I catch a glimpse of the shoulder logo, I always think it looks like a bird has shit on it

I think they're mostly worn by roadmen.
IMO Patagonia is nicer, and cooler.

What, orange hi-viz?

What are roadmen?

They look like this
usually seen round here on an illegal bike that’s been stolen

Check out vinted

I got my DS's NF puffer as a hand-me-down when he grew out of it. It's not one of the really thick ones- a 550 I think. I just took it because it was going to waste, I wouldn't have bought one for myself, but actually it's pretty great. It somehow manages to keep me warm in any temperature without ever making me too hot.

ForCheeryHedgehog · 12/04/2025 08:17

Even if you're not getting political, if you're just looking for something that you think looks cool. It's possible the political might work its way into the issue. Like for example, my kids thought it was cool to drive Teslas for a while😂 Now they're less aspirational and more "Marjorie Taylor Green's crazy ex husband shouting islamaphobia at teenagers, while Elon Musk rocks a cheese hat"

Kilroyonly · 12/04/2025 08:16

It’s a chavvy brand around here, along with anything else sold in JD Sports

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/04/2025 08:15

@WaryHiker I know. But I don't always take my tumble dryer climbing.

I was just pointing this out for anyone less experienced in down clothing who might live in a wet place.

Dueanamechange2025 · 12/04/2025 08:13

If you are wanting the look rather than the quality (and more justifiable in Spring), get on Hacoo and get a decent copy.

This has made me snort my tea laughing, thank you.

Really?

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 12/04/2025 08:07

Just get one fgs

JMSA · 12/04/2025 06:42

OP, if you use Vinted (and I do - all the time!), just be wary of fake NF. Choose a seller with a heap of reviews.
Oh, and forget the snobbery and go for it!

CharlotteSometimes1 · 11/04/2025 18:45

Are you a roadman?

This has made me snort my tea laughing, thank you.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 12/04/2025 05:27

Get one if you want one. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. If it makes you happy, get it done.
I too have a longchamp and it’s a personalised one. I don’t give a crap what anyone else thinks of it.

They are filled with down so they are very, very warm and not waterproof. The down goes all thin and clumpy when it gets wet.

I have had one for about 35 years for winter mountaineering.

A cool tumble dry with a tennis ball soon fluffs them up again.

mrssunshinexxx · 12/04/2025 03:31

@ShadowQuill get on vinted for one x

Look on Vinted or Ebay for second hands. Or wait for winter sale.

My advise don't buy fads and things that will go out of fashion. Get a classic timeless coat / jacket.

Also second not supporting Zionist companies

IWillJustSayThis · 11/04/2025 20:59

Do it. I have two and I love them.
Purchased them from north face renewed. Cheaper than normal but still excellent. I love the warm and convenience.

ShadowQuill · 11/04/2025 20:55

There's been some great replies here :)

Trust MN to tell you it's roadman attire, then point you to some other dull stuff that every other mumsnetter will be wearing 😊.

They look warm and cosy a d are worn by mandem, many a teenager and many moms. If you like it, go for it. Winter will be here again by the time you've blinked.

itsjustbiology · 11/04/2025 20:47

You would be booed off the streets here OP! Has to be Zavetti !!! If you want one go for it ..treat yourself x

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 11/04/2025 20:38

I’ve had mine for 30 years and it’s still going strong. Problem is that quality has gone down and they’ve become a fashion brand with an image that is definitely not me.

Try Rab or Montane which are British brands (although inevitably most manufacturing is in the far east) and what more outdoorsey folk wear. Or Patagonia which is a charity, although also going a bit “fashion”.

strangeandfamiliar · 11/04/2025 20:33

DD would probably steal it if I bought one. Accessorised with swishy long hair and Brandy Melville for the full effect. Agree that they're practical though!
