What would you HONESTLY do in this situation?

Say you ordered a few items from a big online shop (clothing), then successfully cancelled the order, and was refunded.

A few days later, you ordered a single item of clothing from the same place. Today that item was delivered, however they had also sent the items you had cancelled and was refunded for (probably around £120 worth of stuff).

Would you contact them about it or would you keep quiet, see if they emailed you about it and if you didn’t hear anything say 3-4 weeks down the line, just keep the items as normal? This is a place you regularly order from, spending between £300-400 a month.

What would you HONESTLY do?

Yet, I should feel bad for not returning £150 worth items? For some people, that’s 1/3 of their mortgage.

What's the mortgage got to do with anything here?

I already explained in my post

Life is all about balancing risk and reward and people have different morals on how to do that. This thread spectacularly misses that the whole point about morals and ethics is that they’re different for everyone and influenced by your background, culture and society. That’s literally why there are whole degree modules on ethics 😂

100%! So many people’s bills are going up, British Gas and other companies had no god damn problem price hiking and gorging. Mortgages going up! Cost of living crisis because of corrupt politicians. In pandemic, Boris Johnson and his friends were partying along with giving his friends PPE contracts.

Not to be cynical, it’s very rare for the good guy to ultimately win. If that were the case, we wouldn’t have so many corrupt millionaires and billionaires.

All this mindless pedalling to line a virtual strangers pockets who already has millions and billions, happily avoids tax and paying employees little as possible! Lol!!

I'm tempted to ask where is your moral compass if you think it's ok to keep things simply because a) prices in general have gone up and b) some but by no means all companies treat their employees badly and/or use perfectly legal means to minimise their tax liabilities. How does that give you any entitlement to something that's not yours? By all means keep it if you want but don't pretend that's a moral stance.

I didn’t say it was a moral stance, I was pointing out the hypocrisy and double standards of companies. I said based on their behaviour and treatment of employees, along with refusing to pay tax and doing tax avoidance. Yet, I have to pay tax? They’re happy to line their own pockets at the expense of the public e.g. looking at schemes to avoid tax.

Its ok for the “big man” to do bad things, if a “little person” does it.. Then criticises happen.

I honestly couldn’t care less what a virtual stranger thinks of me, let alone a virtual millionaire/billionaire.

I’d keep them purely based on cost of living crisis and many of these companies do tax avoidance. Where is their moral compass when they try to get out of paying tax and treating employees like slaves?

I can't believe you even had to ask OP. It wouldn't occur to me not to let them know. I was sent a duplicate of a silk scarf I'd ordered. I posted it back by recorded delivery, postage was refunded and I've got 10% of my next order.

Wow, 10% - they pulled out all the stops!

This is not true, it is not why businesses are going under at all!! I've always kept stuff if someone made a mistake, thought everyone did 🤷‍♀️ I've asked around in my office today everyone else said they "keep the stuff!" I am not convinced all the pearl clutches on this thread are really telling the truth to be honest.

It's like when you find money on the street... 🤷‍♀️

Don't judge every one by your own low standards.

[I'm so sick of "pearl clutcher"-if you're going to be insulting try not being so lazy and lacking in imagination]

Scorn wasn't poured on posters "as a whole"- unless of course you're referring to the posts by Screwyoutwat,
Growlybear83, AquaPeer singlewhitetrashheap, Moominmai
calling other posters liars, pearl clutchers, idiots, jealous and other insults,

Special mention for tiddletiddleboomboom's "hilarious" effort

?! What insult have I made against the angels?! 😇😇

People like you are precisely why prices are going up and small businesses are going under. You should be ashamed of yourself

tell me you know nothing about business without telling me you know nothing about business….

I did that too! Also at a co-op. What a coincidence

How weird!! This happened to us at the weekend there, at the Co Op, also a £10 and we handed it in. Maybe it's a co op test it's customers honesty 😂

CoffeeFluff · 09/04/2025 21:32

This happened to me. With an £800 Emma mattress. I kept it and gave it to a family member. Shoot me!

They turn over 32 million pound a year…

That’s not a big business, that’s an SME. Turnover also tells you nothing about profit or cash flow or financial strength of the company.

StMarie4me · 09/04/2025 20:56

I would be honest. I don’t believe Karma gets bad people- I believe that Karma waits around for good people to fuck up!

stretchitout · 09/04/2025 20:56

The company probably make the clothes for a pittance and sell it to you for a fortune. Unless it was a small independent business I wouldn’t say anything.
