To go to A&E/Badger?

Posting here for traffic, sorry.

Just noticed this on 5.5 year old DD, have been playing in the sunshine today and took lots of photos, none of which this shows in, so it’s appeared rather quickly.

no other symptoms, but it isn’t fading under a glass, and health anxiety is making me feel I should contact 111 or head to badger for it?

One part of me thinks it looks like she’s bashed it maybe off something, but it’s how quick it’s came up that’s throwing me off course.

any advice is appreciated.

TLDR surely at 5.5 you could just ask her if she has fallen or remembers doing anything that would have cause it. It could be related to the sun. i have 2 different skin conditions the sun triggers and leaves marks similar to this. regardless it is not an a&e issue.

Haven't read all posts but doesn't look like badger teeth marks to me, no.

theweirdstone · 05/04/2025 20:37

When my dc had this they didn't need to have hit their arms and legs as such. Just pressure would do it. Did your daughter hang off of anything by putting her arms over it?

Madformaltesers · 05/04/2025 20:36

Years ago I was a single parent - health anxiety through the roof, for good reasons, early parental death etc, constantly taking my child to A&E, looking up symptoms …
then became a MH nurse, heal myself via others etc…..
now have an adult child who constantly thinks he has a terminal illness.. he is perfectly healthy, but I have fed into this
maybe look at yourself and your anxieties, they will project onto others

Hey, no she said she doesn’t think she hit it. But she’s a kid so who knows! She’s covered in bruises on her legs, and she couldn’t tell you how there happened lol. Thank you though! i appreciate it very much.

Ah probably just knocked herself. Don't be afraid if you feel you need advice, I know from experience it can be a worrying thing to pop up unexpectedly.

TaggieO · 05/04/2025 20:34

If it’s a blood blister eg she’s pinched it in something then it won’t fade under a glass and that’s fine. If it’s a singular mark in a well child then there’s absolutely no reason to go to a&e

Looks like potential petechea especially if it doesn't go away under a glass. It's a scary rash OP i'm sorry so many commenters are being downright nasty!!

Have a look at the advice for petechea on the nhs website and see what they advise you do. It can happen from banging hard against something, did she say if she'd hurt herself? With a small amount I don't think it's anything to worry about just going by my experience.

It looks very similar to when my son rescued his football from a bramble patch and got caught by the undergrowth.
If she is well in herself, no temperature, headache etc then I wouldn’t worry about it.
Sometimes I look at my children, 2 of whom extremely active and have to double take, Astro turf burns, bramble scratches and bruises all over legs. Usually I ask them how they’ve done something and they shrug and say they haven’t a clue.
When something odd comes up I think it’s natural to second guess yourself a little, but I honestly wouldn’t worry over the picture you’ve popped up, it doesn’t look like a rash.

If you do get diagnosed with pots there is a really good supportive Facebook group called pots uk they will be able to help. Just remember although pots can feel uncomfortable and make life harder it is not dangerous at all, you will be OK. I know its stressful and that can make health anxiety worse but you have got this your stronger then you think xx

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that x

That’s what they’re looking for I’ve been given two possible diagnosis of what my symptoms could be - pots or long covid.

So they’re ruling out anything heart related first, just to be on the safe side. I’ve had the holter and echo done, and aside from PVCs & PACs there hasn’t been anything alarming, but they didn’t expect much, the idea is the tilt table test is what will show anything.

Has she been playing on a swing or something similar? The skin on that bit of the arm is very thin, so if it gets stretched or pinched by something like a swing chain or rope, it can cause tiny pinpricks of bleeding under the skin that don't fade when pressed. And it's not a particularly sensitive area so you might not always notice it happening or feel any pain.

Yep that’s exactly what is looks like. Because of the thin sensitive skin on the underarms. Also a bit like if you’ve been excessively crying and you get that blood vessel rash (pinprick bleeding) around your eyes which is also thin skin.

BobbyBiscuits · 05/04/2025 20:24

It's a tiny scratch that doesn't look swollen. Unless she says it's getting worse or feeling hot, or it looks like it's getting redder I'd just leave it.
I don't think it's acceptable to go to hospital for something so minor.

Good luck with your tilt table test iv had one they are honestly fine are they suspecting pots

I’m full of worry at the minute. I’m awaiting blood test results back for myself after needing a retest done because of high WBC , and I also have a hospital appointment on Wednesday for a tilt table tests. So I do have a bit of worry going on at the minute outside of this evening.

That’s not heat rash @reachermarry - it’s called a petechial rash. My DC used to get them all the time when they were younger. I was always advised (when they first started getting them) to go straight to A&E for a blood test as it could be something more, but, after 6-7 times of having these, I would monitor them closely; if they were poorly / had other symptoms. More often than not, they seemed to get them after playing - even carrying a heavy rucksack would cause them to have a petechial rash under their arms. IMO, I would call 111 and ask their advice in this instance and monitor closely

I had the same thing with mine - one in particular was prone to getting them on or under his arms if we'd picked him up that way, on the side of his neck when carrying even quite a light bag, round his eyes after he'd been sick, sometimes just on his torso randomly, just one or two, and sometimes more when ill (we always got advice if it went with illness).

The first time he randomly got them he was about two or three, I think, and we hadn't worked out the connection with us picking him up under his arms. We saw a GP who sent us off to A&E to be on the safe side (everything was fine).

Eventually we worked out what was a 'normal' petechial rash for him and what was unusual. We did get sent to A&E a couple more times, but it was always fine.

It's hard enough not to worry at the best of times if you're prone to health anxiety, and an awful lot harder when you feel like you've been told something is an officially worrying sign (a rash not going away under a glass), so of course you shouldn't ignore it, and then suddenly people are telling you of course you can ignore it and implying you're stupid to even consider it might matter. Ignore all the people being scornful.

Being alert to something like this is parenting - it's true health anxiety can make that harder (with always wanting reassurance), but it's completely sensible to notice what's going on with your child. I'm sure if she's well in herself it's not likely to be anything to worry about, but it's reasonable to have noticed it and to keep an eye on it.

Zanatdy · 05/04/2025 20:18

I personally wouldn’t worry if otherwise ok.

Okay if you've both got it, and in the second photo it does look more rashlike, it's likely there is something in your garden that is a skin irritant and you've both been brushing against it.

I think the whole garden is an irritant lol.

there’s hedges, flowers, bushes and small trees.

the birds love the garden though 🦅

You were reassured by your husband

you were reassured by Mumsnet after the 1st 2 photos
yet you continued with 2 more photos.

And also the first 2 photos are the same photo.

The last photo is MY arm, I’ve repeatedly said this, and it was my signing off post, it was to say I think it could possibly be heat related because I too now have strange non fading marks on my arm 🤦🏻‍♀️

That doesn't look like a rash at all. Wrong pattern, not the typical area for a rash to start either. It looks like to me like a tiny bruise where blood has come to the surface underneath the skin, like might be caused by pinching, rubbing or friction.

If she's otherwise completely well and it isn't spreading I'd really not worry about it.

Yes, now after calming down a bit I too think it’s fiction, possible by the sun screen application earlier.

Not wanting sun cream on, and playing with sand mid application twisting and turning 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think it might be the sun, as I now seem to have marks all over me.

these also do not fade lol.

I’ve checked her now she’s quiet, and she has marks at the back of her leg too, so I’m thinking she’s fell in the garden, probably off her bench 🤦🏻‍♀️ and caught herself, as our garden is full of trees and hedges/flowers.

Thanks again for all the advice, I’ll keep a close eye on it regardless.
