To go to A&E/Badger?

Posting here for traffic, sorry.

Just noticed this on 5.5 year old DD, have been playing in the sunshine today and took lots of photos, none of which this shows in, so it’s appeared rather quickly.

no other symptoms, but it isn’t fading under a glass, and health anxiety is making me feel I should contact 111 or head to badger for it?

One part of me thinks it looks like she’s bashed it maybe off something, but it’s how quick it’s came up that’s throwing me off course.

any advice is appreciated.

Take your badger to the vet not A & E.

I am assuming this is a joke? If not……..

medlobath · 06/04/2025 05:55

I'm sure it's already been said, but light hurting eyes and a horrific headache are the most common first signs of meningitis.

Ant bite?

Definitely Not a swing mark! But irregardless after the marks that are all over me I think she’s either 1) pinched it on the sand table or 2) somethings poked her from one of our hedges.

I have of course since calmed down, and are seeing more logically rather that hysterical.

Hope you’re ok, I know it can be hard.

It looks exactly the same as what I get if I’ve carried something slightly heavy for a while, like a rucksack or something. Those don’t fade either. But they do take a few few hours to come out. Basically, pressure from something, maybe she had her arms wound through the metal chains of a swing, for example? That would do it.

The badger isn’t an animal, apparently. It’s the name of the health place the mum uses. She forgot to clarify that until later in the post, so some people (inc me) got confused.

Edited

I clarified that around 7 comments down on the post, I didn’t realise that the badger is only a term used In my area… it’s an OOH clinic. Seeing as it was an evening on the weekend, and no GP’s/Pharmacists were open.

Yeah this is true but it does take a fair amount of pressure in my experience

Not for me, just a heavy bag or the pressure of having your arms wrapped around / pressed against swing chains, that type of thing. I usually have to think for a little bit to remember how I’ve done it.

ThinWomansBrain · 05/04/2025 22:46

well at least she hasn't been attached by a badger.

LBFseBrom · 05/04/2025 22:46

Doesn't look like anything about which to be concerned. Minor scratches. Clean and put some Savlon on it, she'll almost certainly be fine.

It looks to me like she’s caught her skin on something and bruised it but if you’re still concerned in the morning why not ask your local pharmacist? If they have any concerns they can give you more advice and hopefully put your mind at rest without you needing to wait for ages in out of hours or A&E.

This is a better photo of it.

I came on here just to ask for opinions, I didn’t want to make a haste decision

Please bother a GP for support for your health anxiety. That’s literally nothing.

BellissimoGecko · 05/04/2025 22:33

That is not a meningitis rash, ffs

Crazybaby123 · 05/04/2025 22:10

Is it not an insect bite, or just a reaction to grass or something similar?

Haven't read all posts but doesn't look like badger teeth marks to me, no.

Exactly, they’ll send an ambulance the minute they hear rash which doesn’t fade.

That's not true. My son had lots of non fading rashes as a baby. Every time I called the non emergency line and was directed to out of hours GP. The joy of a ginger haired/sensitive skin child. The appointments were quick but no one ever suggested an ambulance.

Op - looks like skin has been pinched to me. A rash is a lot of spots, not just two in one tiny area.

Scrambledchickens · 05/04/2025 21:41

Op if your daughter is acting absolutely fine then it’s very likely she is. A non blanching rash ( which she doesn’t have) is a red flag symptom in an unwell child. It’s easy to focus on a tiny detail and discard the whole picture but it doesn’t allow you to make an accurate judgement. Hope you are having a nice evening x

Ghosttofu99 · 05/04/2025 21:36

Hi op. Fellow health anxiety sufferer here. Didn’t want to read and run but I’m not convinced about the advice from your therapist to talk to friends and family. With lots of mental health issues that would be perfect advice but for health anxiety an important part of managing your recovery is to avoid reassurance seeking activities. (It’s difficult I know) So for example, you asked your husband what he thought of the mark he gave his opinion which was that it was nothing to worry about. Ideally you needed to leave it at that even if you continue to feel anxiety. What you are doing now is reassurance seeking but it is continuing your thought spiral and fixation on this current worry; the mark.

I think it would be helpful for you to sign up for some group CBT (can be a long waiting list but it’s worth it) Depending on your area it could be online so you could type and listen if you don’t feel brave enough to talk or have your camera on.

Its a bit harder when it comes to kids as it is important to trust your instincts and doctors would much rather rule something out than miss something in a child but it is important to take your child’s overall health (are they otherwise well in themselves?) into consideration.

It’s good to act proportionately too. A pharmacist could easily take a look at a mark and they would tell you if you needed to see GP etc.

There is often a lot of hysteria on here about women with anxiety supposedly infecting their kids with it. I don’t think this is inevitable however having a parent who focused a lot on health or dying can be one of many factors in developing health anxiety. Seek further treatment if you can as it’s so debilitating and joy sucking.

If i scratch my arm at certain times my arm looks like this.

AliBaliBee1234 · 05/04/2025 21:10

theweirdstone · 05/04/2025 20:37

When my dc had this they didn't need to have hit their arms and legs as such. Just pressure would do it. Did your daughter hang off of anything by putting her arms over it?

Yeah this is true but it does take a fair amount of pressure in my experience

Has a badger attacked her..... confused. It looks like a minor bruise. Does she feel unwell. What was the attack like.

Read the OPs posts to avoid confusion

Hi OP

I think you’ve been given an unreasonably hard time here. For a non-blanching rash, I would call 111 and discuss it with them. It’s probably nothing, but should be checked out.
