Get in the damn queue!

TakesallSortsofPotatoes · 03/04/2025 16:58

Is anybody else irritated at people who stand miles away from the queue, so you think they're not in the queue? You either have to ask them if they're in the queue (if you're able to successfully get their attention), assume they're not, because why would they not be standing actually in it and walk past, or wait like an idiot behind them with a huge disjointed queue.

I'm also noticing loitering people blocking gateways, with no regards for anybody else who should need through. What are these people doing?

Anybody else want to partake in a rant at situations like this that irritate you?

People, often students for some reason, who don't put their meal-deal or whatever on the belt but hug it to themselves like a childhood teddy then hand it to the cashier. Just put the fuckers on the belt as soon as there's space so I can put mine on, you knob-end.

People who don't put the divider down behind the last of their items, making me stretch for a divider with a sarcastic "EXCUSE ME" and slamming it down on the belt.

Loose men (it's always men). A random man, generally 60+ (this is relevant), loitering in no particular aisle, perusing the shelves without really looking. There is a corresponding woman in there somewhere, doing the actual shopping but for now, he's redundant. His role is to drive, probably pay, load the bags into the car and drive home. Age is relevant because I haven't noticed this so much in younger couples who either shop together or the woman is perfectly able to drive and pay for herself and the man is quite happy to do the actual shopping, even if it includes nappies and tampons.

Women (it's always women) of 2 or more generations with one trolley so you think they're only doing one shop. Get to the checkout and they proceed to do the "that's mine, that's yours" dance as they divide the load up into multiple shops so when you thought you were 2nd in the queue, you're actually 4th. Bonus points if one or more pays for their shop cash and counting out the small change.

Yep, was going to say this. They cruise soooo slowly up to traffic lights you know you aren't going to make it through. 10 minutes later when they finally change to green, Billy slow bollocks takes 20 minutes getting his brain into gear before slowly crawling away again. Guaranteed to be in front of me at 17 mph for the next 10 miles 😡

Now I use billy big balls/ bollocks but that is now a new saying that I am using. Billy slow bollocks. 🤣🤣🤣

LadyMary50 · 03/04/2025 19:54

Omg Aldi and Lidl, the whole point of the speedy checkouts is that you put your goods on the conveyor belt, they whizz it through, you stand at the end and shove it back into your trolley, pay and then proceed to the packing area and put it in your bags. The amount of people who stand at the checkout and slowly and precisely put their shopping straight in their bags so the cashier has to keep stopping for them to catch up.Go to bloody Tesco..

ohyesido · 03/04/2025 19:51

People who create what I call a bottleneck in supermarket aisles or other shops by grouping together and preventing access to any of the shelves!

move, assholes!

Ooh I know the ones I hate with a passion! You know when you’re at a traffic light that manifestly only lets 2-3 cars through each time? The people who check their phones or whatever the hell it is they do that distracts them and stops them actually paying attention, keeping up with the traffic flow and passing through the light on green. Only two cars get through the lights because these knobs weren’t paying attention and now everyone in the queue gets to wait even longer. Those are the people that irritate me! Thanks for the moaning opportunity!

Yep, this one enrages me too.

WAKE UP and get a move on!!!! 🤬

Mudkipper · 03/04/2025 19:50

Men - and it always is men - who make a big deal of overtaking you at a fast walk and then dawdle along at a snail's pace just in front of you. If you walk past them they will overtake you again.

At this point, I cross the road and walk on the other side.

femfemlicious · 03/04/2025 19:50

Life is just awful in general 😪

Umbilicat · 03/04/2025 19:49

People who listen to music/watch films/have conversations on their phones in public without speakers are worse than ALL of the above combined - and the above all annoy me a lot.

I wish TFL would start a campaign against it instead of all their ridiculous 'in hot weather bring water' bollox they bombard you with

Someone told me that they deliberately wait until amber to stop the car behind them. They see it as entertainment. I think a lot of people do it on purpose.

Has anyone mentioned the swimmers who

stop half way down the pool to chat with their friend/s

stop at the end of the pool to chat with their friend/s

stop at the other end of the pool to chat with their friend/s

swim slowly down the length chatting to their friend

Fine it is a family swim time, but when it is lane swimming time it is for anti social bastards like me who just want to get their lengths in not socialise. And you bet your bottom dollar they are the people who boast that they “ go swimming three times a week” but probably only actually swim for about five minutes each time. And don’t get me started on the muscle stretchers and goggle adjusters, who always have to have a bottle of water poolside in case they dehydrate themselves with all the posing.

I had some spectacular queue rage yesterday. Busy train station and the usual mad dash for the train as they announce the platform with three minutes until departure. My ticket is playing up so I join the queue at the staffed barrier. Just as I get to the front a woman appeared at my side from nowhere and waved her card in the staff members face asking to get through. When I pointed out there was a whole queue of people waiting and she should join it, the rather haughty response was “I’ve already stood in a queue today”. I didn’t realise that standing in one queue exempted you from all the others. I’ve been doing life wrong!

Yeah me too 😂. Even worse are the people who gather in a large group by the doorway, or entrance to an aisle just chatting to one another, whilst being oblivious to people needing to get through the crowd. And they're annoyed when you have to raise your voice to say "excuse me please" 🙄

Yes!! They have the "hard done to <sigh> look" don't they, when it is infact those individuals being the CF's in the first place.

I'm getting flashbacks to my queue rages at my old job! I used to work in a very busy retail outlet which had regular massive queues and a row of tills.

My biggest bugbear was the ones not being served yet, but first in the queue, looking every bloody where except for the tills. Up at the ceiling, facing the back of the shop, twiddling with items on the till points. Absolutely no spacial awareness whatsoever. I used to have no voice left at the end of my shift shouting "Is anyone wanting to be served?". Then queue members 2,3 & 4 looking at you like your'e the one in the wrong with a "do something then, I'm waiting" glare on their face.

Don't even get me started on drivers not giving way when the obstruction is on their side and steaming towards you anyway!

Eurgh, people! Rant over!

fetchacloth · 03/04/2025 19:38

Aliceglass · 03/04/2025 17:15

The “Get inside a shop and stop” people are out in force at the moment. They then look surprised that other people want to enter the shop and barge them out of the way. By people, I mean me 😂

mamajong · 03/04/2025 19:37

Omg I needed this thread today. People who don't look where they're going and seem surprised when they walk into you. People sitting in the outside lane on a dual carriageway or motorway going less than the speed limit - just WHY?! Finally, people who push past you while saying 'sorry, can I just...' instead just saying 'excuse me please' and giving you a chance to move. When this did this pushing through saying 'sorry' become a thing?! 🤷‍♀️ phew! Rant over 🤣

LadyLapsang · 03/04/2025 19:37

It depends on the behaviour of the people in the queue. If they are puffing on a vape or cigarette in a bus queue, then maybe you don’t want to be near them.

Hwi · 03/04/2025 19:33

Aaaaaa! Absolutely - overspill from the pubs, on the pavement, and the only way is to step into the road - and they are oblivious!!!! Especially in London (Great Titchfield Street)

Minesril · 03/04/2025 19:32

LollyWillow · 03/04/2025 18:21

People who don't understand that queues can go around corners - cashpoint machines are the worst for this. Queuers just block the whole bloody pavement (and road!) rather than queue down the street keeping out of everybody's way.

People who stop suddenly at the top of the stairs/escalator to check the map on their phone.

People who stop in downways to take photos- I actually shouted at somebody in the British Museum for this earlier in the week.

And the worst people ... People who wait at ticket barriers for the gates to close before presenting their ticket. They don't have to close before they open! Keep moving!

My ticket will not work unless I wait for the barrier to close, which is just as annoying for me. It’s either wait a millisecond for the barrier to close, or wait several seconds while I wave my phone at the barrier getting more and more annoyed before giving up and stomping over to the attended ones, pushing through all the people behind me.

AngryBookworm · 03/04/2025 19:32

Agree. If you're in the queue, get in the queue. Also, people who don't understand they have to wait for others to get off a train before they get on.

Karistyleaftea · 03/04/2025 19:30

Those people who absolutely want that space next to you in a 3/4 empty car park .
I had one wave insistently and aggressively at me in a car park today to get out of her way .
I was just going to wait for her and tell her how she was rude and needs to calm down but my companion said save your breath , those folks are always that way.
I still wish I had said something though.

WaterMonkey · 03/04/2025 19:28

I get irritated when I’m on a train that’s pulling into a station and there’s someone hammering at the button for the door before the train has even come to a stop. It’s not going to open until it lights up, numbnuts. And then people who want to get on as I’m getting off who won’t give me the 5-10 seconds I need to disembark before forcing their way in.

Richandstrange · 03/04/2025 19:26

People who stand to the side in bus queues, just why?!! There's a reasonably straight queue and then one person standing 3 feet off to the side and they don't even take their proper place when the bus arrives and the queue starts to move, just shuffle along next to the queue but not actually in it 🤷🏻‍♀️

LadyMary50 · 03/04/2025 19:24

Holeypyjamas · 03/04/2025 18:10

My irritation is shoppers who browse the shelves for ages at the supermarket with their full trolley lined up against the shelf, blocking the whole section.

I had this today at the supermarket,so annoying,a great big trolley blocking the whole section I just pushed it out the way.I take no prisoners when I’m shopping😂

NinjaFurtive · 03/04/2025 19:23

People who assume they know better. For example, waiting in a queue for a cashpoint, there are 2 but one is broken so everyone queuing at the working one. Inevitably, every other person comes up, quizzically peers at the broken cashpoint and enquires, is this one not working? Yes, yes it is, I've just chosen to stand here waiting like a lemon and not use it.

Or people who press the traffic light or lift buttons that are already lit up because, hey, you know what? I pressed it when I arrived!!

Tipofthecattoes · 03/04/2025 19:17

Somebody shouted at me the other week that I pushed in front of them. They were standing over the other side of the shop. It was insane. They weren’t even polite. Actually shouted.
