Get in the damn queue!

TakesallSortsofPotatoes · 03/04/2025 16:58

Is anybody else irritated at people who stand miles away from the queue, so you think they're not in the queue? You either have to ask them if they're in the queue (if you're able to successfully get their attention), assume they're not, because why would they not be standing actually in it and walk past, or wait like an idiot behind them with a huge disjointed queue.

I'm also noticing loitering people blocking gateways, with no regards for anybody else who should need through. What are these people doing?

Anybody else want to partake in a rant at situations like this that irritate you?

People who don’t tell their kids off because they act like entitled wankers. As an example - at a museum and there’s a bus you can sit in and pretend to drive. Been queuing 20 mins and almost at the front. Before we get to step on, 3 kids come barging through and get on to the bus. Look around for the parents and they are standing chatting, paying no attention. “Excuse me there’s a queue, can you tell your kids to wait”

She actually said “oh they’re just kids, they don’t mean any harm!!” So I had to tell them to get off!

She couldn’t let it drop either, and slagging me off to her partner in front of my brother (who she hadn’t seen was part of our party) and he told her to get a grip 🤣

KettleOn919 · 03/04/2025 23:13

When you're striding along the pavement and you see a group of people standing chatting up ahead... and they stand there... and stand there... and stand there... until the exact moment you are about to pass behind them. And then at that exact moment they slowly amble off as a group in the direction you are going, blocking the pavement and leaving you stuck behind them and forced to walk at half your natural pace.

CrushingOnRubies · 03/04/2025 23:05

Mostly vans but cars too. Pootle along at 40 in a 60 until the one overtaking part on the road and they speed up to 65. So you can’t overtake. Then remain at 65 for duration.

PalmLady · 03/04/2025 23:05

In a theme park queue I was wearing a backpack and bent down to tie a lace. The person behind took my blooming head space in the queue and when I went to stand up I was knocked down by the backpack hitting them. Queue wasn't moving!

Dog owners who let their dog come bounding up to my phobic child with a “they’re friendly!”

When it was a dog owner who gave him the phobia as a baby by letting their giant dog run at us while he was in my arms, never seen a human being so scared.

and the dog owner recently who let her dog run around a busy cafe without a lead and he pissed next to our table, and she said “oh he doesn’t do that kind of thing, are you sure it’s not juice?”

Im sure some dog owners are lovely and considerate, just not many that I’ve come across sadly :(

Adults who walk 3 or 4 abreast on pavements, in shops etc. Usually ridiculously slowly. No spatial awareness whatsoever.

Yes! Also teenagers. In the morning I run a gauntlet of high school kids who must walk 3 abreast at all times. One cannot drop back for fear of missing out. And so they look at me most peculiar when I barge past one of them, running for the train (which is one an hour).

dentalflosser · 03/04/2025 22:58

People who drive at 40mph on a dual carriageway with traffic backed up behind them wanting to pass.
Middle lane hoggers on motorways.
People who don’t indicate so I’m sitting trying to guess if I can pull out at a roundabout or not.
Twats who cut people up at roundabouts by not checking which lane they should be in and barge into someone else’s.
Dog owners who let their dog come bounding up to my elderly reactive dog despite her wearing a yellow reactive dog “I need space” vest and matching lead, then who shout a cheery “oh mine’s friendly” and I shout back equally cheerily “mine isn’t!”
Dog owners who do mock sad face and say “mine only wants to play” as my eyes roll like dice at a casino back at them.
Dog owners who carefully pick up their dog’s poo and then fling the poo bag into the branches of trees and hedges.

I am a perimenopausal parent and don’t have tolerance anymore!

I used to work in a hospital and its' main corridor (I kid you not ) was a quarter of a mile long. Woe betide you if you were walking to the far end behind a couple of people with walking sticks!

Just a bit too narrow to dodge round one side, so we'd move to overtake on the other side - blow me down, they'd start slowly swaying across to the other side again so we'd move back! It was hilarious , I know they couldn't physically go any faster but it was quite comical sometimes.

Silvertulips · 03/04/2025 22:53

Been to many countries and met people from other countries who don't queue like us. As we are now a diverse country, queueing, or lack of it, is something we'll have to get used to to

Why? The kids manage to queue at school, they manage to take turns for doctors appoints, manage to work, etc

They don’t suddenly not understand the queue system at a bus stop.

This is something else that bothers the fuck out of me, especially the ones who have turned up at the bus stop last but still manage to get on first. I’ve clocked on where the bus mostly stops as I’m always at the bus stop first, I guarantee I’ll get on first or if someone else was before me then them.

mindingmyown37 · 03/04/2025 22:46

I have so many icks like this…. The first 2 post covered my main ones 🤪

When someone overtakes you whilst walking but then starts walking slow so then you have to overtake them anyway … like why not bloody carry on walking fast if you were in that much of a hurry….

when your standing waiting to cross the road and someone stands directly next to you or behind despite thier being loads of space, same goes for bus stops, which brings me to my biggest ick….

men who sit next to women on a near empty bus… yes it’s annoying when anyone does this but I find it particularly jarring when men do it, it’s creepy AF.

Topsyturvy78 · 03/04/2025 22:45

Always when we're in a rush to get somewhere on the bus you can guarantee there will be someone taking their time to pay. Either that or someone ranting about the bus being late making the bus even later.

SinnerBoy · 03/04/2025 22:38

Drivers who just go at the wrong speed. There are quite a few 40 mph turning to 30 mph limits near me and the number of twats who do 23 in the 40 and then speed up in the 30 boggles me.

And tossers who simply drive well under the limit when conditions are good and traffic is light.

I was on my motorbike today and had a bloke doing 15 to 20 mph in a 30 for over a mile. Every time he got to 20, he came off the gas. We hit the 40 limit and he reached the heady speed of 22-23 mph.

We got to a roundabout and he waited for about a minute with nowt coming for the right, until two cars came up and off he bimbled. He'd only just exited as the 2 cars had gone by, so I passed him.

Of course, then he decided to floor it and sit on my arse. Stopped at the lights, he pulled up on my right in the turn lane for Asda, with about 6 car lengths and no cars ahead... to glare at me!

And then wanted to be back in my lane, but couldn't, because of all the cars behind.

Repeated Tasering in the groin area is too good for them!

TourangaLeila · 03/04/2025 22:37

People who load their shopping onto the conveyor before I'm done!

Sandra k have half a fucking trolley left, move your shit!

Oh god. Isn't the issue common sense?

A) it can lead to people not realising where the queue actually ends and going in front of the 'broken" but of queue thinking that's the back
B) it means an unnecessarily long queue, often getting in the way of people as it backs out more than it needs too.

Can't believe I've just had to spell that out...

I am sure you enjoyed doing so 😂

KaToby · 03/04/2025 22:32

I work in a supermarket.

People who take AGES to pack their shopping as everything has a special bag, I’m sure you’re not driving for 3 hours and your shopping will be fine getting home.

People who don’t get their loyalty card/payment card out until the shopping is all scanned and packed away, taking ages to find it, have it ready, you don’t have to hold it whilst I’m scanning but as least have it in a pocket or pop it on the till packing area!

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 03/04/2025 22:32

People rushing to get in front of me because they cannot endure the horror of being stuck behind a wheelchair. This thing does 4 miles an hour (8 on the road), and has no breaks. Get the fuck out of my way!

surreygirl1987 · 03/04/2025 22:28

12use12 · 03/04/2025 17:46

And @ruethewhirl

The queue does not move any quicker just because the person in front likes their space. You won't get to the front any sooner.

It means when somebody is behaving in an unexpected strange way in this scenario.

I was going to say this. Means strange, weird. In the great book of queue statistics, it is quite a random act.

I don't know the mean, mode or median but I'm thinking 1% of people might consider this.

Round here, you'd just get your bag nicked 🤣

Pumpkincozynights · 03/04/2025 22:25

The walking abreast on pavements really annoys me. Then they glare at you when you don’t move out of the way for them all!
I actually like it when it’s raining and I have my umbrella up. I purposely do not move. They soon learn to walk single file then!

ChewbaccasMrs · 03/04/2025 22:20

The worst for me is people that whilst looking directly at me still go to walk into me and I'm in my wheelchair.
On other occasions I've had grown adults walk backwards into me,they've gone to fall onto my lap and then tried to blame me.

It always makes me wonder how people manage to leave their homes without their brains?

TakesallSortsofPotatoes · 03/04/2025 22:17

This reminds me of cyclists without helmets and such like, wearing dark colours in dimly lit areas, and on main roads! Why, just why? Do they have a death wish?!

And when you cant see them until you are almost literally on top of them, YOU get the abuse from THEM! Happens a lot around here. Dark night, dark clothes, no lights, no helmet. But if I hit them it will be my fault?!

CrocsNotDocs · 03/04/2025 22:19

People at cafes and pubs who wait until they reach the cashier before looking at the menu. Rage. All the rage.

QR code ordering has been very therapeutic for me.

doublec · 03/04/2025 22:19

Admittedly not a queue but there's a lift I have to take most days as I'm unable to walk up and down stairs. Every single time, there are people standing directly outside the doors, smoking and/or vaping. Sometimes, they're just standing chatting. Although ground level and under cover, with a mass of other spaces for them to stand and smoke, they huddle in front of the lift doors and make me feel like I'm inconveniencing them when they have to move to let me through.
