There was Kewcumber who adopted from abroad as a single lady, there was a mum who always talked about her son Wilf, and there was a very direct, blunt and often right woman who I think wrote with no punctuation, who seemed to be on every thread and gave me lots of harsh truths! Going back a good decade now…

Anyone know what happened to them? Anyone else you wonder about?

I have been on here since my children were very young, and my eldest is 24! On a couple of different profiles mind.
I remember Zombie, may she rest in peace. The Scottish lady? I forgot her name. A few more too.
I remember which poster you’re on about, the one lacking in punctuation. Didn’t she flounce once after giving everyone a mouthful? 😂

Fabbychic

I was trying to think of Fabbychic last night but the name was on the tip of my tongue, I couldnt get past ' flickychick'
Didn't she used to write from her attic or something?
There was one that was quite rude and interrupt think racist and possibly Irish. SomethingPunk. Again, I've got a mental block and can't get past Daft Punk.

The poster i remember most from days of yonder is OpheliaRose.
i think she was chased of as being a troll but I remember her threads about having twins and her husband had left her

The trolls always have twins Grin it's a dead giveaway

Bit annoying for those of us who actually do have twins!

Does anyone remember wannabesupermum or something like that? Brit in NY who stuck me as the most terrifyingly organised human on the planet

Yes! I'd forgotten about her but I probably have screenshots somewhere of her advice.
I think she had lots of advice on private schools and / or working in a senior role with kids.

IMO she was a troll. Her posts were just far too polished. She ended up with about five threads in the end, dramatic enough to the extent of “he’s coming up the driveway right now,” and starting threads along the lines of “feeling great in my skinny jeans.”

But posters were a mix of lapping it up and treating it as the troll it clearly was.

@sciaticafanatica i still think about her also.

Her name always crops up on these threads and I hope she’s living her best life.

The second one is also previously mentioned WorraLiberty, who was kicking around until recently. Maybe still is.
The reason I remember her is because any thread she was on would invoke a whole load of “I agree with Worra”s, despite the fact that similar comments may have been made up thread but it was all about agreeing with Worra. I even had a mental image of WorraLiberty looked like (and my version of her was a scouser)

There are still a few posters like that on Mumsnet where the moment they enter a thread, other posters fall over themselves to tag and align with them, regardless of the content of their post. It could be something as simple as "Your dh is a dick!" or "Amen to that!" and ten or more posters will tag or quote their "MN celeb" to just write "This" or "I agree with [insert poster]" even if others have said the same thing. I suspect they're hoping to attract the attention of their 'MN celeb/queen bee/mn royalty/old timer' by doing so.

This sheds light on why we encounter individuals who all but worship actual celebrities in real life; if even within the confines of an anonymous forum, those prone to sycophancy cannot restrain themselves, it is rather telling. It's amusing to observe time and again.

Edited to 'bold' the quote.

Yep. Show off is the word! I said something fairly innocuous on one of her "look at my humble home, I'm just a silly old sweetheart' posts many may years and for ripped to bits by her fanclub. Ugh.

Yes, she had lots of sycophants around her. Who on earth puts pictures up of their 5/6 bed home? What a show-off, lol.

waxymoron · 04/04/2025 07:35

KarlaKK · 03/04/2025 13:23

No, she wasn't always kind. I was trying to remember her name yesterday. She was a bitch to me once and a big show-off.

I too don't see why a thread can't reminisce, I assume most of those oldies are still friends in RL.

Get a grip.

Or don’t click on the thread 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

POTC · 03/04/2025 20:51

Yep, that's the one 😂
I have an album of photos containing lots of cleavage. It went on all night, she just went up to people at random and asked to take a photo 😂
The more drink was consumed, the more said yes! I'm friends with Mamazon, Flamesparrow & Lovecat on fb and remotely in rl, and met them all for the first time that night

I remember a bar with steep steps and think we wore name badges and sure it was Xmas time December 2011 as was just after dh died

Perhaps, but a lot of stuff on MN will be complete bollocks. Sending stuff to random people? Posting when you’re giving birth? What planet are people on?

Im a working mum and can barely find time to wash and blow dry my hair, or see the real friends I have, let alone connect in a meaningful way to online randoms.

Im not trying to say what you’re saying isn’t true as it could very well be, but I’m struggling to see how many busy mums could do that. Presumably it’s lots of SAHMs or retirees who are making friends on social media?!

I’ve sent stuff to people on here. A pair of Aigle wellies that didn’t fit me, some stuff I’d received for Christmas (can’t remember what).

Conversely, one lady sent me a brand new pair of Hush harems, still with the label attached.

This place was a real community, with a ‘pay it forward’ vibe. Women helping other women. Not so much now - it’s gone the way of the rest of the world.

Incidentally, the biggest change I notice is the amount of people calling bullshit on threads, or accusing the OP of using AI. A cynicism that I never noticed before seemed to arrive with the adverts.

I don’t know what Mumsnet Reddit is! 🤭

Ill probabably be deleted but its an off shoot of mumsnet on reddit whereby they dentify trolls tbf they are normally right
I think the whole David and caroline fiasco started it.

People really did send each other things, one time I posted asking if the elc, think it was a tape recorder but could have been cd player with a little singalong microphone was good?or was there a better one, I should buy and someone on here just sent me one, at her own expense and wouldn't let me paypal anything to her.
But it was the same old names every night, and people did feel like they really knew each other.
Maybe there was alot of lurkers, but you knew most poster's names

Does anyone remember the guy that posted a whole story of how his wife was dying, then died and I think he had a small one, MN came out as a fantastic community to support this man financially and I think created a woolly hug(?) then the whole thing turned out to be a scam?! Can’t remember how long ago it was and obviously all the posts have been removed now!

When I first came onto MN I didn't have a child.

I don't think that was that unusual. Certainly not for the time.

It was a forum at a time when a lot of older forums were dying a death and this has enough traffic to be able to have a conversation.

I'd been on other forums before - and I'd met a lot of people in real life through it. But forums had pretty much died by that point (it was a good decade old in its own right). People had gone to Facebook and Myspace etc. And after done FB for a while I was finding it becoming increasingly intrusive and toxic and I didn't feel safe posting there. I'd seen a couple of incidents on it which were deeply unpleasant. I'd also been in gaming communities and became very jaded with them due to the sheer amount of sexism and harassment on them (this predates all the well known stuff with gamergate). I used male usernames for a good while, but found this meant I felt I was lying and a fraud and couldn't really be truthful and myself.

Tbh I find conversations about the content of social media and toxic masculinity really naive and really out of touch because it's very much had an impact on people I know since about 2005 - I was witnessing online harms and misogyny including revenge porn 20 odd years ago (not me thankfully). I find it weird that the rest of the world is only really starting to wake up to it now.

My point being that there was significant demand for a space for women to post away from that shite - and you certainly didn't have to have children to want to be part of that environment. It was just the moment in time where you just 'did that'.
