Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

Mother's Day isn't a festival that people celebrate communally. Children wish their mothers a happy day. That's it. They don't typically say it as a general greeting as you might for Christmas, Eid, Diwali etc. As I'm not Keir Starmer's mum I don't need anything from him re Mother's day.

As you seem to I hope you enjoyed his Mother's day social media post now it has been brought to your attention.

Yeh he did not post it to all platforms though. He could have done a text only one for X and it would have saved a lot of gnashing 😄

Gnashing from a few thousand right wing trolls/ bots who hate him anyway?

If people are sad enough to care so deeply about this they’d have just found another thing to complain about if he had posted on Twitter

But still… you haven’t explained why you need him to wish you a happy Mother’s Day?

Interesting that some posters feel he's deliberately trying to wind up X users (or his people are, at any rate).

Feels like a strange game for a PM to play if so, don't you think?

If "people" on X get wound up by him posting about Eid that says more about them really.

In the real world no one has noticed or cares what he posts on what.

SALaw · 31/03/2025 00:00

I can confirm: Rishi Sunak has never tweeted about Mother’s Day or Lent; Boris Johnson has never tweeted about Lent and only once tweeted about Mother’s Day, when he reminded people to socially distance on Mother’s Day; Theresa May has never tweeted about Mother’s Day and only once (in her last year as PM) tweeted about Lent. So did you do posts about them too?

I think he is winding up Twitter, knowing the demographics since Musk took over. I am not on Instagram, but saw this on FB

To answer the question (and sorry to single anyone out) this is the post that refs trying to wind up X users. Did not come from me!

I don't think he's the one playing games.

YANBU OP. He's a miserable little pipsqueak

Who (other than you) thinks he trying to deliberately wind people on Twitter up?

Maybe he’s too busy missing his dead Mum today, to be worrying over a load of tin-foil hat wearing, basement dwelling, conspiracy theorists.

PeriPeriMam · 30/03/2025 23:56

Are people actually still doing Twitter any more?

I bloody well hope Keir personally X's about South Mondovia independence day tomorrow or I'm definitely voting Reform.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 30/03/2025 23:55

Nit sure why they’re expected to mention anything that’s a made up day

Genuinely what difference does a Twitter post about Mother’s Day make to your life? I really don’t understand how such a non issue can matter so much to you

TrixieFatell · 30/03/2025 23:55

I've just checked his Instagram, he didn't even mention pancake day either. Was too busy hobnobbing with the cast of Gavin and Stacey.

Tugsfh · 30/03/2025 23:54

Glad everyone can see how hate gets stirred up.

It’s only really you who thinks that. Hard to admit you’re wrong though isn’t it?

If he's not going to do Twitter properly he should probably leave. What could be the aim of feeding different platforms different content?

Ah, you are a yes-butter.

(Everyone: He did acknowledge it. Look. Here.
You. Yes, but...)

GCAcademic · 30/03/2025 23:51

Oh dear, another right-wing snowflake indulging in performative offence-taking. You’ve really embarrassed yourself, OP.

Maybe check to see for yourself if something is true before letting yourself get riled up by Elon’s mob in the future, eh?

ExtraOnions · 30/03/2025 23:50

…and the kind of made up, trolling, Bullshit of the OP, is the reason I left Twitter in the first place. Manufacture outrage

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/03/2025 23:49

Why would he say anything about Lent when it's still happening? Are you also going to start a thread about the mosque 'in the Lake District'???

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:49

Allswellthatendswelll · 30/03/2025 23:44

I am sure it is an official comms difference between his account and Downing Street. But if I were him I wouldn't want a lot of horrible twitter bots posting god knows what under a tribute to my dead mother. People on Instagram are generally nicer.

Yeah I do agree with that!

BeaAndBen · 30/03/2025 23:48

I don’t remember Boris Johnson posting about Mother’s Day.

Then again, he’d made so many women mothers that he must struggle to keep track.
