Little bit embarrassed but I'm not really bothered. I let him tease me 😆 It started off as grief purchasing during lockdown after losing my son quickly and suddenly, and I found myself with an itch to scratch. I'm getting better though. I joined an Early Retirement Group on Facebook which offers very sensible financial advice and it's made a difference. I've not got myself into debt, but wasted a lot of money that's for sure 😆

I know this is a light-hearted thread and we've all bought things we couldn't really afford or regretted later, but honestly, doesn't it just show how little we care for the planet? So much unnecessary consumption, so much waste... As for the inequalities in society, words fail me!

Same exact story here 😭 wish we’d just got the Labrador puppy we originally wanted and decided we couldn’t afford. We’d likely have a lovely chilled dog now we could take on holidays and walk anywhere we wanted, like our last dog, for the same overall cost, but instead we have a stressy nervous wreck instead (we love her, really!)

£75 for my rescue dog. £2.5k on vets fees a few months later, gulp.

As you can see it's not the sort of quilt you could repair easily (although I do love traditional quilts, Mum left me a half-finished log cabin which I'm working up to finishing).

Not as much as some on here but I stupidly fell for online advertising and bought two drastically reduced cashmere jumpers from a retailer which is supposedly quality stuff from a European site. They arrived and one was OK but not as nice as I'd hoped, and the other was polyester and elastane so I attempted to send them back (I was offered exchange or a refund if I returned them). Cost to return them - to China - is nearly £30 and it has to be tracked. The woman in the PO said it's a complete scam and they will try to say the parcel was lost and won't refund anyway so to consider selling the decent one on Vinted (I'd have to get a friend to do it) and give the other away.
I'm really annoyed with myself because I don't usually go for new brands unless they're recommended. I should have known better!

@Crazyladee If it makes you feel any better, one of my parent's friends could never pass up a bargain. So if Boots where doing three for two on Mac lipstick, she would buy three lipsticks and give them all away because she has a lipstick that she loves and wouldn't wear them. Half price coffe maker when she doesn't drink coffee? Straight into her basket. Then she persuaded a friend who had a small business to get her signed up for a membership card at a discount warehouse and it just snowballed. Her house was stuffed to the brim with whatever was on sale that week but because it was aimed at the trade, you couldn't buy one microwave at a discount price, you had to buy three at a minimum. She has wasted a horrifying amount of money over the last 30 years (far more than a cutlery set from Asprey's) and her husband eventually left her. Internet shopping has only made her worse. It's a compulsion, she literally cannot walk past a 'deal'.

Dear lord. 😂 Are you proud or embarrassed when your DH shows people your gadget garage?

@Katem90 I'm glad my post landed at the right time for you. You're going to get more bricks thrown because people will see the grump and not carry on to all of us sorting it out. And then they'll figure it out and it'll be good again but it's handy for the Pollyanna types like me sort of la, la, la, lovely day occasionally because people will either think "how sweet" and move on or be so sickened by how fucking sugary I am that they run silently screaming from the thread. Jobs a good 'un.

I'm sorry about the fibromyalgia. I had a good friend with it and it's hateful on so many levels not least the lack of belief in its existence.

Me and morphine. I'm unwell in a not getting better way but in a very much coping well for now and long may that last way. I won't be spending again until later this week because I spent some money on cushions at the weekend and my bank are - thankfully strict with me. as I turn my bed into a Victorian sick bed of velvet cushions picked up here and there. I'm going to get a velvet throw I think. My bedroom is currently bloody wonderful, I feel like a rich bohemian lady, surrounded by flowers and beautiful things and so comfortable.

So a velvet throw and some silk nightwear. Maybe. I'm so tempted to buy a piece of silver cutlery. We should all do that, not in a taking the piss way, but in honour of how beautifully this thread has turned out. A spoon or knife or fork or tiny tea spoon to remember when we all cheered eachother up or laughed at our own idiocy, or something. I truly love this thread!

Home electrical gadgets are a weakness. To the point I've had to delete the QVC app from my phone. My DH gleefully opens the garage to show friends/family my impulse purchases that are gathering dust. In fact if anyone in the family decides to buy a new electrical item for the home, they check with me first if I have an unwanted one.
A Drysoon heated airer and all the (expensive accessories)
Two barely used cordless shark hoovers (I bought a robot one which I hate and I'm now eyeing up it's replacement)
A wildly expensive kitchen aid food mixer that a professional cake maker would use (I don't do any baking at all)
Soup maker
Bread maker
Citrus fruit juicer
Huge Layzee Spa and all the accessories. A late night impulse buy during lockdown. It's twice the size of the patio as it seats 10-12 people.
Mops - Shark Steam click and flip. Went back to good old mop and bucket. (The latest Vileda spin mop I had to have of course)
The cordless spinny airmop thing. That, I love but its more of a polisher.
After ditching the Sharks, went back to good old Henry Hoover. Realised it was a back breaker for my bad back so that's relegated to the garage.
Replaced by a Henry Quick. Which was returned.
I recognise I do have an ongoing problem with home gadgets. Now that there is Klarna, its even more lethal.

In the post to which I was replying (quoted in my original), @Katem90 said "... you all think I’m an arsehole for saying I’d rather help another person’s situation than spend tens of thousands on cutlery." The "all" referred back to that i.e. we - the people who @Katem90 had said thought she was an arsehole. I was saying no, we don't "all" think you are an arsehole, we think you're talking rubbish.

So, no I wasn't purporting to speak for you, or really for anyone else. I was using the language of @Katem90 - apologies that I didn't put it in quotes. But really, @Katem90 , your glee was misplaced as anyone with better comprehension skills than @LillyPJ would have seen that (as I suspect you did the first time you read it, but conveniently forgot it when you saw a way to stick the knife in - but no, you're the kind of person to give £20k away so that can't possibly have been your motivation can it?)
