I get a bag from my child. Who then asks to share them. No. Absolutely no. AIBU for a bit more thought? I don't like that I'm expected to share, they've gone off in a huff and my OH is also in a huff.

How sad. Your child is 6. Your issue isn’t with your child, it’s with your oh. In front of your 6 yr old you should have been thankful and offered to share.
Im thrilled with the daffodils picked from the garden and hand made cards. My 6 yr old was so excited to give me them.

6 years old. I'm just miffed that it's a gift I have to share. Yes it's mother's day but I'm having to share my gift. It would be nice to receive something that is just mine.

Six? Jesus fucking christ. Have you no concept of being a child? You must have other resentments that you are dumping onto this.

IsItOnlyWednesday · 30/03/2025 10:11

Aww this is so cute, I’d have love mini eggs. I think you’re being a bit harsh, that’s a gift from a 6 year old’s heart

PinkiOcelot · 30/03/2025 10:10

God how old are you? You’ve ruined the day by being ridiculous.

I wouldn’t care if this was me. I’d open and share and wouldn’t be bothered if I’d only got a couple.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 30/03/2025 10:10

I don’t intend to sound huffy personally - I am very used to it. And am still in pain from a root canal yesterday and way overtired in general. Not helped by needing to rescue said teen by phone on how to get home late last night because they “forgot” to fill the tank on their way out on Friday morning when time was on their side…

Candlecharge01 · 30/03/2025 10:10

Do people genuinely get chocolate off their kids and not have to immediately share? 😂

DancingDucks · 30/03/2025 10:09

The worst thing about this thread is that 25% of voters think that she is not being unreasonable for not giving her 6 year old a mini egg because she doesn't want to share. 😂 God almighty.

BelloItalia · 30/03/2025 10:08

6?? Ffs grow up

Thecatatemyplants · 30/03/2025 10:08

This is sad, OP. I've opened my chocolates this morning and immediately shared them with the kids, that's part of the fun!

Children learn by example. Don't expect your child to want to share anything with you in future. He's only 6 that's so sad.

Dragonsandcats · 30/03/2025 10:08

Surely this is a joke post? Your child is 6!

Toothicktounderstand · 30/03/2025 10:08

I didn’t open my own presents for years as my child always wanted to help. I miss those days.

I usually buy myself something nice as my husband is crap.

Now she’s about to leave school she really thinks about stuff. Even if it’s mucking out the horses. The gesture comes from her which means so much more.

At 6 they do want to have one. It’s natural.
Go online buy yourself something nice and share your eggs.

DancingDucks · 30/03/2025 10:08

This absolutely MUST be a wind up ... I bloody hope so anyway.

FFS really Jesus wept 🤦🏻‍♀️

BiddyPopthe2nd · 30/03/2025 10:08

Be thankful you got a gift, or even an acknowledgement. Teen passed me with a grunt, expected the use of my car all weekend (I had planned to be here long before her, as were both currently overseas for a couple of years in different places, both “home” this weekend, and I had wanted to visit relatives while home…) and has disappeared out again this morning.

WonderingWanda · 30/03/2025 10:07

You sound really grabby and mean. Surely with a gift from your child, its the thought that counts. Mini eggs are lovely. And l, yes you should let them have some mini eggs.

RabbitsRock · 30/03/2025 10:07

I love mini eggs! I do get where you’re coming from about sharing when it’s a gift for you OP. Possibly your DH could have primed your DD by saying that the mini eggs are for you ( and he could have bought DD her own bag)

VickyEadieofThigh · 30/03/2025 10:06

The more of these huffy/indignant/moany/ridiculous Mother's Day threads I read (every bloody year), the more I think the sodding day should be consigned to the dustbin.

Mums (and Dads) should be celebrated all the time. This Hallmark day is awful.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/03/2025 10:05

I’ve just remembered that my DC bought me a box of Maltesers a couple of years ago (they were 9 and 3yo). I immediately opened them and we all (DH included) had them for breakfast. It was a lovely morning!

This is why I like white toblerone as a present. I’m the only one in the house that likes it 😈

You sound like you’re 6 years old with that attitude.

MrsMurphyIWish · 30/03/2025 10:04

My DC are 13 and 10, and I still share my chocolate gifts with them and likewise they (and DH) will share their gifts. I wouldn’t see it not thoughtful. No thought would be no recognition of the day at all.

I couldn’t imagine being so bitter that I didn’t want to share a bit of chocolate with my 6 year old child.

alcoholnightmare · 30/03/2025 10:03

My 6yr old threw up everywhere at midnight last night.
That kid owes me some mini eggs

Well, here's hoping you use your day of sulking and unpleasant atmosphere to analyse what's wrong with the other 364 days of a year that you're so needy on this one.

FloppySarnie · 30/03/2025 10:03

The child is 6!!!! Stop being so mean.
